Ganymede Terminal

Published on Feb 5, 2017 davidryle

"Space Music, YES. An imagined moon base on Ganymede off Jupiter.

Modular synth for the bass line, percussion and a 16th note octave sequence.

The Oberheim/Dave Smith OB6 for a starting arpeggio, the Roland System 8 for some bridge chords and the Behringer DeepMind 12 for reverb-drenched chorus chords.

The main bass line sequence and percussion were generated by STG Soundlabs Time Modules. The bass sounds realized on the Moslab 901 VCO's and 904-A LPF.

The sixteenth note line introduced halfway in is the synthesizers.com Q119 sequencer to an Ian Fritz/Doug Slocum Double Dekka Ultrasonic VCO fed to two EG's and a Yusynth Minimoog filter.

Delays included Modcan dual delay, Lexicon MX200 (x2) and Behringer DD400.

The snare is a TipTop Audio SD808.

Played live in the studio and recorded to a single stereo track in Cubase. Video recorded with an iPhone7 and edited in Final Cut Pro."

Modular Synth Live Jam, with live looping.

Published on Jan 26, 2017 LOOK MUM NO COMPUTER

"First live session of the year. using a vegetable Oil can to set the pace. and just a whole lot of modular. and pitched vocals.

Recording is on soundcloud :- https://soundcloud.com/lookmumnocompu...

Vegetable tin goes into a very dodgy looper I'm working on, more info to come. what you see is the extent of its functions though, and it only works in that tempo, for now. juno 106, has max release and is going into a VCA controlled by modular stuff, the sequence was pre programmed before i filmed, so it was a case of increasing the length half way through to open up the rest of the bass riff.

Lots of Arduino's involved. for sequencing modules, arduino nanos to be precise.
Drums are Hexinverter Électronique Mutant drums. except for the clap which is a sample on a SparkFun Electronics, Inc. Wav Trigger. VCO's are jurgen hailble's living VCO's, going into an ms20 style filter, schematic can be found by ian fritz. loads of other stuff..... testing out a panning module i made too which is more of just a switching module.

Yamaha CS10. Vocals going into a Roland vocal transformer then into a Boss Effects Pedals DS-1."

EQD

Published on Nov 27, 2016 Richard Galbraith

Update: this video was pulled and re-uploaded as a shorter version which you can find here.

"This was recorded in two overdubbed takes. The first take is a bed of deep synth tones, provided by my MU modular, with added Arturia Microbrute and Mutable Instruments Rings in Easter Egg mode.

The second take is a Sela cajon which I mic'd with two mics: one for cajon audio and the other plugged into the Synthesizers.com instrument interface in order to trigger Rings. Thus, in this take you can hear the strumming sound of Rings with every cajon hit.

Key modules include Synthesizers.com's oscillators, Q150 low pass filter, and quantizer bank; Megaohm Audio Delta low pass filter; SSL/Fritz Doubledeka oscillator; FSFX/Fritz Teezer oscillator, and the MOTM 480 band pass filter.

Reverb and effects by Valhalla DSP."

Modular Synth - Patch in Progress 34

Published on Jul 11, 2016 isvisible / isinvisible

"My Ian Fritz panels (Serge) playing very nicely with my Eurorack set-up.

The AFG is clocking the Pithoprakta, which in turn is triggering everything else.
Elements - Bass
Rings - Processing audio from the Radio Music
AFG - low clicky audio processed by the ADDAC Fixed Filter Bank, which has each frequency being modulated by various Ian Fritz designed modules (Chaotica, ChaQuo and Jerkster)
Serge Modular (Ian Fritz - Chaos Theory and Timbre Tantrum panels) - Plinky plonky piano sounds, warbles and atmosphere.

Cheers"

This one make me think of what John Carpenter might sound like exploring modular. Very Carpenter-esque. Love it.

Borderlands

Published on Jul 9, 2016 davidryle

"I recall driving along Highway 9 in south New Mexico from El Paso, Texas to Animas, New Mexico on the way to Tucson, Arizona. The long bouncy road made an unforgettable impression of the remote southern US border region.

I tried to produce the drone impression of the road noise and wide open scenic expanse in this project.

A live studio take of the modular synthesizer recorded in Cubase and captured by the iPhone. Video edited in Final Cut Pro.

Some module patch highlights include the MI Clouds in Parasite Resonator mode dealing with a few voltage controlled radio station audio signals and one of the melodic sequencer lines.

The bass line is a Q960 step sequencer sent to a Q106 vco through a Yusynth Minimoog LPF. It is sent through a Modcan dual delay and Lexicon studio delay. There is a doubling with the MakeNoise Mysteron through a STG Sea Devils filter and the TipTop Z-DSP with Halls of Valhalla.

Other sequencer lines play various slow melodic passages over the top. Some of the vco sources are half dozen Q106's, Mos Lab 901 + 904A suite, Harvestman Piston Honda and Ian Fritz Synthetic Sound Labs DDVCO through Yusynth Arp 4072 LPF. Effects included Strymon Blue Sky reverb, Behringer DD400 delay, SSL 1310 digital delay, Lexicon MX200's and TC Electronics D-Two.

A periodic low frequency drum sound is generated by an envelope to a STG Post Lawsuit LPF and noise from a Sputnik WCRS.

Clock timing handled by Cubase to Future Retro Mobius which drove the STG Soundlabs sequencer suite, 4MS RCS and QCD and Moon Modular dividers, Pressure Points as well as the Q960 and Q119 sequencers"

Serge Modular Synth - Ian Fritz 'Chaos Theory' & 'Timbre Tantrum' Panels - #2

Published on Jul 9, 2016 isvisible / isinvisible

"Playing with the two Serge format modular synth panels by Ian Fritz, 'The Timbre Tantrum' on the left and the 'Chaos Theory' on the right.

The only other things used apart from the two panels were:
Doepfer A-156 - for quantizing the S&H outputs of the Dual TGTSH.

Bandive Accessit Stereo Spring Reverb - for adding spring reverb to one of the Teezer TZFM VCO's. (the plinky plonky piano one).

Roland DEP-3 - for adding reverb to one of the Teezer TZFM VCO's.

Ibanez AD-202 - for adding delay to bank A of the DoubleDeka Ultrasonic VCO.

Cheers."

Serge - Ian Fritz 'Chaos Theory' & 'Timbre Tantrum' Panels

Published on Jun 22, 2016 isvisible / isinvisible

"Still exploring and finding out how to use my Ian Fritz panels.
Loads of fun. Especially with the Bugbrand DRM1+X drum synth.

All sounds (apart from the Drums, which are heard on their own at the beginning) created by the Serge panels. With just some delay and reverb added to a couple of the voices.

None Serge modules used:
Mutable Instruments - Grids
Iron Ether - Pithoprakta
Doepfer - A-160-5 Ratchet Control
Electro Music - Klee
Modcan - Dual Delay
Intellijel - Springray"

Serge - Ian Fritz DoubleDeka as a Trigger Sequencer

Published on Jun 17, 2016 isvisible / isinvisible

"Here's a video of a two panel Serge system comprising of two Ian Fritz panels. A Timbre Tantrum and a Chaos Theory.
The DoubleDeka VCO is acting as a trigger sequencer. It's triggering the following:
Bank A:
1. One side of a dual TGTSH (fed by the Chaotica)
2. A Teezer TZVCO
3. 4X4 AD/AR
4. Threeler VCF
5. Mixer

Bank B:
1. One side of a dual TGTSH (fed by the Chaotica)
2. A Teezer TZVCO (this one needs calibrating)
3. 4X4 AD/AR
4. One side of a Dual 2Q/4Q Multiplier
5. Mixer

Both banks mixed together and fed through a Bandive Accessit stereo spring reverb.

The second TZVCO (Teezer) needs calibrating, so sounds a bit off higher up the scale.

Cheers"

Reznik Dreams at the 1AC

Published on Jun 13, 2016 davidryle

"A wandering dreamlike idea. Using the Flame Chord Machine, Piston Honda, Clouds, Mysteron and Segwencer IV (two of them) to follow the Pressure Points sequence and radio noise which is stepped from a Q960 sequencer. Lots of random treatments with two Turing Machines.

The voltage controlled radio module, a noise module, a MOTM 440, a Serge 1973 filter, a CGS Real Ring Modulator, an Ian Fritz DDVCO all worked with feedback loops through an Encore Frequency Shifter to create the metallic noise.
The Segwencer was picking apart the four part chords in random fashion from a Turing Machine and the arpeggiator portion of the Chord Machine drove a suite of MosLab 901 vco's to add counterpoint to the Piston Honda sequence. The Mysteron and a Q106 vco were filtered through a STG Soundlabs Post Lawsuit LPF for the bass line.
A little homage to a favorite 'machinist' movie."

Patching with a limited number of modules

Published on Jan 22, 2016 Richard Galbraith

"This patch is limited to what I could potentially power with a dotcom QPS2, which only has leads for 8 modules. Here is what I came up with: two dotcom Q106 VCOs, a Fritz Teezer VCO (by Free State FX), the MOTM 480 (which has a built in 3 channel mixer), a Grove Audio dual VCLFO/VCA, a dotcom Q109 envelope generator, a Grove dual joystick, the dotcom Q171 quantizer bank, and dotcom multiples (passive, of course). Reverb and delay are Valhalla Vintage Verb and Ubermod."

Double Deka Sequence

Published on Dec 29, 2015 Richard Galbraith

"Taking a short break from my usual Renaissance recording, I decided to try something a little different. I recently got a Synthesizers.com quantizer bank (Q171). I don't have an analog sequencer, but I can use my SSL/Ian Fritz Double Deka oscillator as a 10 step sequencer. I can get three simultaneous lines out of it, which I've done here.

I used two Synthesizers.com Q106 oscillators and an Ian Fritz Teezer VCO (made by Free State FX). Filters used are synthesizers.com Q150, Q107, MOTM 480, and the MegaOhm Delta LPF.

I ran the outputs into separate instances of Valhalla Ubermod for delay, and then into an instance of Valhalla Room."

ARP 2600 configuration of a Synthesizers DotCom portable 22 cabinet

Published on Dec 27, 2015 O.Z. Hall

"This is a brief overview of a DOTCOM modular system in a Portable 22 cabinet. It was configured to have the capabilities of an ARP 2600 (minus the pre-amp, envelope follower and voltage processor sections). It features a normalized signal path and a "programmer" which supplies a mix of envelope generator, LFO, bias (cutoff) for the VCF. It also provides voltages to control the resonance, tuning of VCO3, Envelope generator controlling the SYNC effect (from the IAN Fritz 5 Pulser), and the "Fat" CV for the Synthia Saw Animator module."

Radio Music in the Clouds

Published on Sep 14, 2015 Modular Cult

"First experiment with the Mutable Instruments Clouds.

The Music Thing Radio Music is patched into the Clouds module via a CGS/Serge 1973 VCF. The Radio Music is patched almost exactly like my previous video, but I am also modulating the Station input. The output of the Clouds is set to 100% wet and I am modulating the Reverb amount via the Ian Fritz Chaos module.

The bass drops are an Electric Druid VCDO. The FM type sound is two Yusynth VCO's inter-modulating each other and feed into a MFOS EchoRockit."
