Kiwi Patch Editor controlling the Roland MKS-80.

Published on Mar 21, 2020 Machiwoomiapoo

"Today I figured out how to use the kiwi patch Editor to control the Roland mks-80. It has the power to control multiple synthesizers at one time. This might be a great alternative to buying all those controllers that only control one synthesizer. Please let me know your opinions and thoughts on this Editor. Take care, Sam."

"Vintage Korg Polysix with Kiwisix power supply replacement, Kiwisix PCB/MIDI firmware upgrade, Synthgraphics Kiwisix control panel decal, brand new replacement key contacts from LA Synth Co, new push switches, and a Tubbutec "Polysex" OSC mod (using original Polysix knobs to match). Included are the original manual, original patchbook, and an original Korg product advertisement from the 80s.

All of these improvements effectively create the modern Polysix we'd all love to see from Korg. Check out the embedded video to see how the Polysex adds a completely new dynamic to the trusty Polysix. The keys on this unit really do feel nice after the contact upgrade and the switch replacements go a long way for ease of use. No more dropped notes or button presses!"

Some synthesizers working together

Published on Sep 17, 2019 Hawkinsnikwah

"Just installed the Kiwisix on my Polysix for the added sequencer. Like it so far, though learning the new menu layout takes some time. The sequencer operates almost like the Jx-3p's, which I love since it can be advanced with drum triggers."

"Turbo charged Juno 106 with Kiwi Upgrade and Overlay! Here we have a Roland Juno 106 with the fantastic Kiwi upgrade and rare Kiwi Overlay in Excellent condition especially considering the age of this classic. The Kiwi Mod opens up whole new sonic territories to what is already a much loved synthesizer.

The Kiwi mod brings much welcomed features such as an Arpeggiator, Sequencer, a second Envelope, expanded preset Memory, Software Editor, and more. This Juno has been kept in great condition with only a couple minor scuffs here and there. Most notable would be a scratch in the Overlay under the "Kiwi-106" logo and a very tiny knick in the Overlay above the "KYBD" slider. There are some small scuffs on the underside. Please see the pictures for reference to decide if this beauty is for you. In my honest opinion these are minor and the overall condition of this synth is truly Excellent.

The previous owner had this recently serviced by This Old Synth so it is ready to rock and roll. Yes, the voice chips have been serviced and are free of the dreaded plastic coating. The sliders are smooth with zero unwanted noise. All buttons work on the first try with no issues. The Chorus sounds pristine without the unwanted hiss commonly found in these chips.

This is an absolutely wonderful specimen in fantastic shape both sonically and cosmetically. The Kiwi is truly an upgrade breathing new life and attitude into the Juno 106. A hybrid masterpiece of Vintage Sonics + Modern Features make this stunning instrument one of my all time favorites!"

New Kiwitechnics Kiwi-1000 Upgrade for the Oberheim Matrix-1000

New Kiwitechnics Kiwi-1000 Upgrade for the Oberheim Matrix-1000

Kiwitechnics, makers of the Kiwi upgrades for the Roland JX-3P, JX-8P, Juno-106, and KORG Polyix, have a new DIY upgrade available for the Oberheim Matrix-1000. The cost is $295 plus shipping.

Details via Kiwitechnics:

This is an upgrade for the Oberheim M1000 rack mount synth module. This will transform the M1000 from a difficult to edit preset module with a poor midi interface into a full featured synth with some excellent features. The M1000 synth hardware is based on the CEM3396 ‘synth on a chip’ and this gives the synth a versatile set of features including multiple combined and editable waveforms on each DCO as well as PWM and VCF FM controls but will still retain the Oberheim ‘sound’. The upgrade will also replace the on board DCO master clock. The M1000 clock is a single fixed master clock that both DCOs use and this limits the range possible to about 6 octaves. The K1000 upgrade will replace the single master clock with separate clocks sources and each of these will have a range of 64’-2’. This is pushing the CEM chip to it’s limits but we feel the results are worth the effort.

The Oberheim M1000 has been hamstrung with most of the patches that cannot be edited, poor midi and a difficult patch format making editing and sound creating a challenge. We are using the experience gained with our other upgrades to redesign the M1000 to be a fully fledged synth with all the usual Kiwi features. This is not a M1000 with the midi fixed it is a completely new synth. We are incorporating Oberheim tone imports but because the tone layouts are so different the conversion is not going to produce exact matches. We are also putting in imports for the K106 & K8P products and well as Roland JX8P and JX-10/MKS-70 (Tones only) which will provide a big tone library from the web to use as a starting point.

The upgrade comes with a front panel label that will fit over the existing buttons and LEDs.

The Kiwi-1000 Upgrade features:
