_________
Amanda Chaudhary’s live performances bring theatricality and flare to the sometimes staid world of experimental electronics. She combines sophisticated modular synthesizers and software, with conventional instruments and even toys and DIY electronics for a unique experience that moves effortlessly between experimental noise, jazz and funk, ambient abstract landscapes, and more. She has been performing solo and with various groups in the Bay Area, New York, and beyond for many years and is deliberately difficult to pin down to a particular style or practice, except to say that her work is always fun to experience. Amanda is also the founder of CatSynth.com and CatSynth TV, which covers music, synthesizers, art, and culture through the prism of a love for cats. The feline sometimes works its way back into her music."

MOK Wavewazor Eurorack Module

Published on Aug 20, 2019 CatSynth TV

"We explore the new Waverazor Eurorack Module from MOK. The module features the same patented waveslicing oscillators found in the Waverazor software plugin, complete with a multitude of controls for manipulating the waveslices via the touch screen, knobs, or CV inputs.

We discuss the concepts of waveslicing synthesis, explore the interface, check out some presets, create our own sliced waveform, and go wild with the CV inputs, culminating in a performance with CV sequencers and external drum machines.

00:40 About Waveslicing Synthesis and The Razor
01:34 Exploring the module's controls and various presets
05:50 Editing your own waveforms
08:08 Clock-based wave slicing
12:15 Going wild with CV
12:45 Putting it all together with CV, sequencers, and external drum machines!

External CV via the Arturia MiniBrute 2, and Make Noise Rene and Tempi.
Drum accompaniment for the final section provided by a Korg Volca Beats and Mutant HiHats from Hexinverter.net.

MOK Waverazor demo and patch programming

Published on Aug 13, 2019 CatSynth TV

"We explore the Waverazor, a unique and powerful software synthesizer from MOK. Each oscillator generates sound from one or more waveform slices that can be changed and modified in real time, with the oscillators feeding into multiple filters and finally to a mixer and effects section.

We demo several of the factory presets (including a second bank created by Richard Devine), and give a short tutorial on basic programming of the oscillators, filters, and modulation matrix."

NAMM 2019: MOK Waverazor Innovative Eurorack Oscillator Module

Published on Jan 30, 2019 SYNTH ANATOMY

"Taiho showed me at NAMM 2019, it's new innovative Eurorack oscillator Waverator which is based on a modified 1010music Toolbox platform."

Kind of reminds me of the rotors on the John Bowen Solaris. Taiho Yamada was one of the lead designers at Alesis and M-Audio. He brought us the Alesis Andromeda and the M-Audio Venom. You can find posts featuring him in the archives (by date or by relevance).

NAMM 2019: MOK Waverazor Module

Published on Jan 26, 2019 CatSynth TV

"Taiho Yamada of MOK demonstrates the new Waverazor module at NAMM 2019.

'The Waverazor Dual Oscillator module brings our patent-pending oscillator design to Eurorack format. Waverazor's wave slicing synthesis presents a novel approach that splices waveforms into twisted and aggressive timbres. Featuring new sound generation techniques like Multi-Sync and Mutant AM, the Waverazor oscillator is perfect for biting leads, glitched-out basses, cinematic pads and everything in between.'

"One Waverazor oscillator can contain up to 16 wave slices, creating a multi-segment "Frankenstein" waveform that produces extended harmonic content. Each individual slice has independent control over wave pitch, volume, phase and DC offset, allowing a single oscillator to contain a multitude of timbral colors. Even the "Razor" itself can be adjusted, with parameters for its own slice frequency, step size multiplier and duty cycle."

MOK Waverazor - Oscillator Demo

Published on Jan 21, 2017 MOK

"WAVERAZOR
Futuristic Virtual Synth

A demo of the Waverazor oscillator with a 4 part wave slice. All sound in this demo is from one oscillator, with no filters, effects, or modulation engaged. This illustrates some of the extreme complexity that can be achieved with the Waverazor oscillator.

Unleash your dark side with Waverazor—a futuristic synth that gives you the power to splice waveforms into aggressive new sounds. The patent-pending oscillator design utilizes a new form of synthesis to produce biting leads, glitched-out basses, cinematic pads and everything in between. Twist and torture every parameter of sound using a central oscilloscope for precise waveform creation. Morph multiple parameters at once using an array of performance controllers. The collection of included presets provides a launchpad into endless sonic exploration. Waverazor is compatible with AAX/AU/VST on Mac, PC and Linux."
