12 Volt Punch - Modular Drums and FX

Published on Aug 17, 2016 GoldbabySamples

"Available now: http://www.goldbaby.co.nz/12voltpunch..."

"Modular synthesis is an amazing playground for sound design. I have collected an eclectic mix of modules: analog oscillators, filters, envelopes, LFOs, self contained drum modules, digital based modules and more. Made by exceptional manufacturers like: Audio Damage, Tip Top, Hexinverter, Doepher, Mutable Instruments, WMD, Studio Electronics, Circuit Abbey, Intellijel, Bastl, Steady State Fate and The Harvestman.

Using this lovely modular system I have created a tasty collection of punchy drums and inspiring and useful FX. All packed full of character and ready for your next beat. These sounds will feel equally at home making Techno, Future bass, Dub Step, Drum & Bass, Electro or any style of electronic music.

3913 x 24 bit wav samples, 290 x Percussion and FX Loops. With kits and instruments for Maschine, Ableton Live, Geist, Battery, Reason, Logic Pro and Kontakt.

Check out this Flickr gallery for some photos of the system I used for this pack"

DUBCRT Commodore 64 Cartridge

DUBCRT JAM Published on Aug 18, 2016 goto80

"defMON-jams in the jungle, with songs from the DUBCRT. http://datadoor.net/dubcrt/

The video contains four jams after each other, and each jam uses only a vanilla C64 and a delay pedal. Nothing was rehearsed, so you might hear a mistake or two. Or a feature or three."

"DUBCRT Commodore 64 Cartridge (PAL only)

DUBCRT is a music album, interactive light synthesizer and remix gadget released as a Commodore 64 cartridge. With music and visuals from some of the most prolific experimentalists of the 8-bit scenes, DUBCRT taps into 1960s modernist forms, 1970s dub, 2000s glitch aesthetics, and 2020s sustainable computing. DUBCRT features:

• Eight songs ranging from ambient to IDM and drum n’ bass
• Visualisers that react to the music, and that are user-controllable
• A secret remix module that allows you to re-interpret all the music on the cartridge

All of this uses only 64 kilobytes – equivalent to 1.5 seconds of MP3-audio. This is possible thanks to clever use of resources, and by making all the graphics in PETSCII, the colourful and quirky ASCII-variant of the Commodore 64."

Circuitbenders Harmonic Engine PCB - Clone E&MM Harmony Generator Kit From 1981

Published on Aug 18, 2016 circuitbenders.co.uk

"Clone of the E&MM Harmony Generator kit from 1981.

The board generates a squarewave at harmonic intervals related to the frequency of the input signal. Its quite tedious and predictable with a monophonic basic waveform as an input, but when you start using more complex sounds and percussion things start getting very strange and nasty. This is processing a bass and percussion loop that fades in at the end."

Bastl Introduces New Product at Moogfest - The bitRanger Handheld Patchable Analog Logic Computer

Published on May 18, 2016 Bastl Instruments

"Bastl Instruments introduces a new product at the Moogfest: the bitRanger designed by Peter Edwards a.k.a. Casper Electronics who moved recently to Brno, Czech Republic to join forces with the Bastl crew. The bitRanger brings together the legacy of the previous products debuted at Moogfest the Werkstatt and the Pocket Operator and bridges both realms of these instruments together.

The bitRanger is a patchable analog logic computer which sculpts sonic worlds ranging from data noise to melodic arpeggios. While being a handheld standalone synth it is also right at home in the music studio. Extensive connectivity makes it so flexible that it can connect to almost anything: CV control its unique sound, sync it with drum machines and sequencers or use it as an algorithmic CV / GATE pattern generator.

The patchbay of the bitRanger (in the same style as the Werkstatt) is a place for exploration where you can simply connect outputs to inputs to see what happens. This can be done methodically or with complete experimental abandon. Go nuts! Battery Power and a built in speaker make the bitRanger totally portable. Tweak it's 4 knobs, 8 switches and more than 100 patch points in the woods, on the beach, on a train and in the studio.

There are only 3 places in the world where you can try out the bitRanger: the Moogfest in Durham NC, freshly opened store of Bastl & Casper Detective Squad in Brooklyn NY and original Bastl store Noise Kitchen in Brno Czech Republic. The first limited edition will be available for sale at Moogfest for special price 259 USD.

BitRanger is available at noise.kitchen website for 222 EUR excluding TAX and will be shipping in June."

X1L3 - Vevoyah + Elektron Analog 4 - Drum mutilation

Published on Mar 25, 2016 manufacturedZ3R0 .

"Vevoyah - drone/pe/hnw/abstract synth/resonant filter/delay........

Hand built noise synth built around an atari punk console. with cv in to the filter cutoff, an external audio input and midi control of the oscillator over 12 notes.

Analog 4 drum sequence at the external input. Filter cutoff is being sequenced by the A4's CV out. The input is preamped and super hot so can be abused with line level instruments for some good distortion. Blending in the oscillator to this over driven input produces some nice toned grunge and pseudo ringmod effects, especially when the filter resonance is in self oscillation. A midi sequence is set running about midway through which animates this strange effect and underpins the drums with an unhinged arpeggio."

New Arcano Systems Gem-8 Retro 8-bit Computer and Chiptune Synthesizer on Kickstarter

Published on Mar 15, 2016 Arcano Systems

"Gem-8 is an 8-bit, WiFi-enabled personal computer and chiptune music synthesizer inspired by the home computers of the 1980s. Back the Kickstarter campaign to receive Gem-8 as a reward.
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/..."

Arcano Systems previously brought us the MIDI NES Chiptune Synth as well as the Obscura MIDI 8-bit Chiptune Synth.

Details via Kickstarter:

"Gem-8 is an 8-bit, WiFi-enabled personal computer and chiptune music synthesizer inspired by the home computers of the 1980s like the Commodore 64, the Apple IIe, and the ZX Spectrum. This 8-bit AVR-based personal computer features 256-color VGA video output, PS/2 keyboard input, audio line output with 8-bit quantization, 8 digital input/output pins, and a serial expansion port to connect peripheral devices.

Specifications:

Processor: Atmel Atmega1284

RAM: 16 kB

Video: 256-color VGA

Keyboard: PS/2 (compatible with IBM PC AT scancode set 2)

Audio: 8-bit-quantized line out (standard stereo connector with same signal in both channels)

Peripheral Interfaces: serial expansion port + 8-pin female GPIO pin header

Two peripherals have already been created for Gem-8: a WiFi card and a MIDI interface. The WiFi card allows Gem-8 to connect to the internet using the preloaded serial terminal application. Gem-8 is particularly well suited to accessing online multi-user domains, text-based multiplayer online games, and bulletin board services that use the Telnet protocol. The MIDI interface peripheral connects a MIDI keyboard or other MIDI musical instrument to the Gem-8 computer, allowing users to create their own C64 and NES-video-game-style chiptune music using the preloaded chiptune synthesizer application. The Gem-8 chiptune synthesizer application also features video synth visualization capabilities. Currently, the Gem-8 synthesizer software features 8 waveforms and 4 effects settings for a total of 32 unique patches.

[Middle Pic: Gem-8 MIDI interface and Gem-8 WiFi card (based on the ESP8266-12 WiFi module)]

Using additional applications included in Gem-8 OS, users can set the digital states of 8 output pins, which can interface with external components like LEDs and relay modules. Gem-8 users are also able to set the duty cycles of up to 8 pulse-width-modulation signals, which can be used to control servos or to vary the intensity of external LEDs.

Introducing the LAB:1 Synthesizer by Artificial Noise

Published on Feb 2, 2016 Artificial Noise
"The first Demo video of the Artificial Noise LAB:1 Synthesizer."

Artificial Noise has introduced the LAB:1 Synthesizer. What might initially appear to be a drone synthesizer, is actually capable of a bit more. Be sure to listen to the SoundCloud demos above. Note this is the first Artificial Noise post on the site.

The following are the details on the LAB:1 Synthesizer (you'll find a link further below):

"100% Analog 6 Oscillator Experimental Synthesizer

3 Audio Frequency Oscillators with Triangle, Sawtooth and Square waveforms

3 Low Frequency Oscillators with Triangle and Square waveforms

Switches to X-Mod Oscillator One with Oscillator Two, and X-Mod Oscillator Two with Oscillator Three

Switches to Modulate LFO One with LFO Two, and Modulate LFO Two with LFO Three

Audio Oscillators can be free running or can be triggered via Buttons on the front of the unit.

Level/Depth and Frequency Pots for each Oscillator

Solid Oak End caps and metal case.

Designed to sound thick and raw with little regard for stability and "clean" waveforms, expect to explore strange audio territories with the LAB:1.

Powerful modulating drones to melodic rhythm sequences to spacey sound effects to total audio chaos.

Easy to use with with all controls available at hand but hard to restrain by nature, the LAB:1 is for those who welcome the unexpected.

Works great as a stand alone composition tool or used to generate new sounds for a sampler.

List price $300 (plus shipping).

Available for presale at www.artificialnoise.ca

Artificial Noise is a maker of strange sound makers. A small company based in Winnipeg Canada, it exists to design weird gear for synth-heads and experimenters."

"This is a heavily modified version of the Alesis HR-16 drum machine from the late 80s/90s. I have developed my own custom PCB board to house all the modifications I carry out and to keep the design clean and robust.

I will also consider swaps/trades for gear that interests me, dead or alive.. ask me... :)

Most notable features added are:
Ability to quickly replace sound bank chips using the quick release sockets mounted to the top of the unit (compatible with any of the soundbanks I have in my other listings)
Full LTC1799 Pitch Modification, allowing you to change the overall pitch of the whole machine (can go SUUUUUPER slow (a snare can last around 7seconds) ) and also around 20% higher in pitch. It's also worth noting that all sounds can individually pitched/tuned also as standard. It makes for great turntable style slow downs etc.

Updatable STEREO DSP FX System, including Low and High Pass filters, Bitcrush, reverb, delays etc. Used in conjunction with the multiple outputs makes the machine super powerful. Endless fun or just use it to make the sounds a little dirtier..

Gorgeous solid walnut side panels really set the look of the machine off.

New Electro-Harmonix Super Space Drum and Crash Pad

Published on Jan 11, 2016 EHX

"EHX’s rich history was marked by many revolutionary pedals but one of our most distinctive lines was a group of analog drum synthesizers that included the Crash Pad and Super Space Drum.

Like the original from 1980, the new Crash Pad can create an array of drum sounds and other-worldly oscillation sweeps, as well as process external sounds thru its resonant filter. Plus, it’s been updated to respond to expression pedal/CV input for external control over the filter in real-time.

A faithful reissue of the cult-classic released in 1979, the Super Space Drum uses analog synthesis techniques to create mind-blowing sounds ranging from deep kicks to high toms to sci-fi drums. Trigger it from the built-in pushbutton or an external (non-MIDI) electronic drum pad. Pass external sounds through the gated amplifier via the aux input. The Super Space Drum lets you create, control and manipulate a stunning array of synthesized sounds."
