Roland S-10 sampled bass

video upload by Espen Kraft

"When I sample sounds, on whatever sampler, I always test the samples in a musical context. How a bass sound sounds alone don't mean anything. A sound might sound awesome on its own, but in a mix it might be totally wrong. And vice versa.

I've always found the S-10 perfect for bass. A short sampling time, fast and easy to sample. Early Roland S-samplers have a sonic signature I've always liked. It sounds great while it can also cut through a mix.

video upload by ohm_studi_ohm

"Quick demo of a Dynacord Echocord Mini vintage tape delay recently serviced and for sale
(http://www.ebay.com/itm/305463654546 ).
I used a Roland MC-202 to demo it, as well as a custom built Farfisa rhythm unit that is also for sale (http://www.ebay.com/itm/305464352202 )"

via this listing

"One-of-a-kind drum machine.
It"s a rhythm unit ripped from a 70s Farfisa spinet organ and built in a custom case (trying to remain faithful to the original look).
Classic analog drum sounds like the ones you get out of the many boxes of that area (Roland TR77, Ace Tone FR-1 FR-2 FR-8, Hammond Auto Vari etc etc)
It is very close in to the Farfisa Rhythm 10 unit that Kraftwerk used at its beginning.

10 rhythms that can be combined to get some more, controls for tempo and volume. Mono jack output, on/off switch and running on 12v-18v DC (power supply is provided).
Case is DIY so don't expect manufacture quality. YSWYG."

video upload by tonetweakers

"Programming a Roland TB-303 pattern. Here’s the properly refurbished 303 we recently sold and shipped to the repeat customer who bought it (thanks as always!). What’s your favorite 303 track? One of ours is Let Me Go By Heaven 17 - they rocked it back when it was new, long before acid house and techno!"

"Roland TB-303 Devil Fish(mod #91 by Robin Whittle, 2000, see mod details on inside of back cover) in perfect working condition. Cosmetically it doesn't look nice, with lots of scratches and very worn paint, but it still sounds amazing. Please contact me if you can accept its external condition, or need to see more images of the Devil Fish. I've owned it since the late 90s and had the Devil Fish mod installed myself back in 2,000 by Robin Whittle in Melbourne, Australia.

Mod details: 32 memory banks + custom coloured LEDs + filter input for external audio signals + internal CV/Gate, slide in, filter in, accent in."

Robust 🦸‍♂️ (Roland TR6S Rhythm Performer // S1 Tweak Synth // J6 Chord Synth) Synthwave

video upload by 2-Minute Warning

"In the wake of my previous video, here's a synthwave-like jam featuring the same 3 little boxes from Roland: the TR-6S (Drums), the S-1 (Bass) and the J-6 (Arp/Chords) 😉

The track starts with a drum pattern from the TR-6S where I only used the TR-707 Analog Circuit Behavior engine (I.E. no static 707 samples), modeling the quirks and instabilities of the analog envelope and amplifier stages that came after the D/A converter 🤩 (the TR-707 was PCM based, but still had some randomness thanks to the analog part after the D/A converter).

I also used the DRIVE master effect of the TR-6S to add some dirt and energy (the DRIVE somehow also act like a compressor).

I recorded 3 DRUM patterns (2 main parts and 1 break) but as I used the probability, sub probability, parameter-lock features etc. the drum patterns seem to be longer than 1 bar!

Then come the BASS (played by the S-1, I recorded 4 patterns which are 4-bar long for this) and the ARP/CHORDS played by the J-6 (I decided not to sequence this instrument as I wanted to trigger it live and bring some organic fluctuations to the track 😊).

For the sync part, the TR-6S is sending MIDI to the S-1, and the S-1 is sending analog clock to the J-6 (there was no need to start the J-6's sequencer as the ARP/CHORDS were triggered in real-time)."

Additional Nightlife Electronics Listings

"The Roland SH-5 is possibly the most feature rich vintage mono synth ever made by the legendary Japanese company. With 2 LFO's, 2 VCO's, 1 variable state VCF, 1 bandpass filter, 2 Envelopes, 1 VCA, S&H, Ring Mod and a simple but powerful switch matrix for routing modulation this synth is more than capable of making some of the most incredible tones and textures you can imagine!

Made in the late 1970's 'green face' Roland era, when their synths had a certain magic sound that is hard to describe. Fizzling and alive with electricity!

A handful of patch points on the back give you access to all the essential controls via CV so that this can play along nicely with a modern set-up.

This particular SH-5 has just been fully serviced in our Synthesizer Rejuvenation and Wellness Centre and comes with a 90 day warranty of good health. Original lid included."

The Roland System 100 Synthesizer - variations on a theme ( Part 3) #modularsynth #synth #sequence

video upload by S R DHAIN

"Sometimes, one idea can lead to multiple variations on a theme. And many 60s, 70s & 80s Universal Studios t.v. shows utilsed this mindset with motifs created around the title music.

In Part 1, the sequencer was switched live to go from 4 steps to 8 steps. The basic time signature remained the same.

In Part 2, the sequencer's timing was being changed by bank B's pots. Noise was also used to add a drum part

In this third part, we're still hearing the same 8 notes, but the sequencer speed is being constantly changed by the sample & hold output from the 102 expander.

Note that the low drone pad is also being triggered from the same clock output, but without the lag to smooth out the ramp voltages it's firing out to the 104 sequencer; the speed of the melodic sequence ascends & descends accordingly.

Tabletop Session No.6 – "53" by Schäfer (Roland Juno-60 & Space Echo RE-201)

"This Jam Session is based on a work in progress of mine: „53“. The Roland Juno-60 was run through a Roland Space Echo RE-201 tape echo. The gate signal which controls the arpeggiator’s speed came from the omnipotent Pamela’s New Workout Module. The VCF was modulated with up to four different CV Sources (Sample&Hold, LFO, positive envelope and negative „ducking“ envelope)."

♫ Jamming With a Bunch of Synths ♫ ----- (79)

video upload by

"This jam is a little weird. My phone was on low battery which made the video slightly glitchy. I was a bit distracted during this recording so it's maybe a bit more boring than usual. There is also a couple mysterious audio drop outs near the end of the video. I didn't notice these prior to uploading so it's possible something went wrong when combining the audio and video files or something.

Axel F - Harold Faltermeyer (cover by Munatix), on two Roland Jupiter 8 's - Beverly Hills Cop

video upload by Munatix

"We had lots of fun recording and filming our cover of Harold Faltermeyer's Axel F. Does it show? There is a video online somewhere, where Harold shows the Jupiter 8 he played during his original recording. That video triggered us to seek out how he did it and approach the original sound. These are inspiring and learnful experiments for us.
