How to Navigate the Site During SUPERBOOTH24

Just a tip on navigating the site during SUPERBOOTH24. Check the following three labels on every visit:

NEWS - this label will bring up the first post on news.

UPDATES - this will bring up posts with updates to them. Often news will break only to have additional demos follow.

SUPERBOOTH24 - this will bring up all SUPERBOOTH24 posts. The SUPERBOOTH label will as well, but it will continue on to prior years.

Use the Search box on the top right followed by labels at the bottom of posts. Using search is a little tricky as it will skip posts that don't have the actual search term somewhere in the text of the post. Examples would be searches on brand names or gear names. Sometimes people will only mention one and not the other.

If you have any questions feel free to comment.

Retrokits RK008, Third Wave synth and Innerclock Systems

video upload by Steve Turner

"In this quick video I show how EASY it is to record midi sequences into the RK008 Realtime Multitrack Midi Recorder. I start with a monophonic part and then show a simple chord part. I am doing all this one handed so don't expect Rick Wakeman (even if I had 100 hands). The point being how SIMPLE it is to create parts in the RK008 and then play them back into your hardware."

MEET MANIC! // VCAs with SUPERPOWERS! - New Eurorack module from DivKid & Apollo View Modular

video upload by DivKid

"MEET MANIC! The new DivKid & Apollo View Modular Eurorack module. Designed to be a precise and flexible VCA with SUPERPOWERS!

Manic is built for stereo at it’s core, crossing VCA, ring modulation, wavefolding (in both Serge and Buchla variants), and saturation (TanH soft clipping and hard clipping) with a host of features in a compact 8HP interface ready to ignite your audio and CV patching and processing.

Manic is out now in all good modular stores.

Manic manual and links on the DivKid website // https://divkidvideo.com/manic/"

An Apollo View Modular & DivKid collaboration

Manic introduces an exploration of dual channel mono, mono to stereo or true stereo modulation and sound shaping within a sleek 8HP module designed for both creative freedom and technical precision. Each channel offers precision linear VCA functionality with traditional unipolar amplitude control or bipolar behaviour for complex ring modulation effects. While we all need more VCAs! The secret sauce lies in the post VCA shape outputs.

The Shape1 output features TanH soft clipping and Serge-style wavefolding, while Shape2 boasts hard clipping alongside a Buchla-style wavefolder. The contrasting topologies between the left and right channels unlock dynamic stereo widening effects, making the stereo image both expansive and mesmerising. While the circuits are different they have been tweaked to provide variance for creating stereo images from mono sources while also working with stereo inputs for a balanced, yet enhanced stereo spread.

Designed to excel with both audio and CV signals, Manic effortlessly processes incoming signals for a broad spectrum of uses. The intuitive layout ensures immediate hands on control making it ideal for live performance and studio experimentation.

Collaboration Between SYNTH-WERK and Matthias Nagorni

Press release follows:

Matthias Nagorni has many years of experience in the development of software synthesizers such as the AlsaModularSynth or the Add64. He was also consultant of various Synthesizer projects.

In 2021 Matthias bought a SYNTH-WERK Modular System and started experimenting to control the system via an external audio interface and especially developed software for this application.

He worked on the concept for frequency calibration of his SYNTH-WERK synthesizers 901oscillator banks and digitization of the 911 envelope generators. Matthias found a way to calibrate the tracking of the 901 oscillator bank by using his specially developed algorithm. This opened a complete new world on 901 oscillator banks in polyphonic mode without any modiQcation of the original 901 circuit design.

One day he sent a sound example that he had created with the SYNTH-WERK modular system and his new control system. This was the initial spark for the collaboration and the joint idea of integrating these functions into a keyboard that still offers unimagined functions today. Even old MOOG 3P ́s from the 60 ́s can be calibrated using the SW 955-CONTACT keyboard.

Years of hard work lie behind us, in which the idea and the concept have become a product in which both sides contribute their strengths. Matthias Nagorni's creativity, software and embedded systems expertise and SYNTH-WERK's many years of experience in the development of hardware and manufacturing. This enables us to offer our customers the best possible combination of reliability, quality and functionality that they expect from SYNTH-WERK products.

We are very excited and proud to work together with such an innovative and creative person like Matthias.

The SW 955-CONTACT keyboard is the Qrst product from the collaboration that marks the start of the R.A.3.0 series, which brings the modular synthesizer further into the future.

'You are in a damaged capsule, part of a space station on the moon. After an accident that caused part of the station to be destroyed, you are the only survivor. Alone, with a limited supply of oxygen, enough for a few hours. You can't change it, you can't influence it. But you don't want to think about what comes next, about the inevitable. You are not worried, you are not afraid of death. You knew what the risk was. Now is the time for contemplation. Memories, thoughts, long-postponed things with which you were not at peace, which are dormant inside you, surfaced. It's ironic that in order to spend honest time with yourself, you needed to be alone in space...'

Enjoy your precious time in space.

Thank you for watching & listening."

Stranger Things Theme: OB-6 sound design tutorial: How to make the synth bass

video upload by EthanJamesMusic

EthanJamesMusic OB-6 videos

"This is a sound design tutorial for how to approach the main theme of Stanger Things. The sound is a dirty chorus synth bass that is achieved by detuning the oscillators, as opposed to using a chorus effect..

The Sequential Circuits OB-6 can do a respectable job of coming close to the sound, because of the SEM filter that is borrowed from the original Oberheim that was used in the main theme.

Analog synthesizers have found a way back into film music, which has led to a lot of rich experimentation of what these instruments are capable of. I think my main takeaway is the heavy use of envelope, and setting the filter modulation much lower than a normal synth pluck would require. Also, having a really dry sound mixed in with lots of ambience really cuts through in a way that creates a strong effect.

I hope you learn something from this tutorial, and it gives you some ideas to try out! Please let me know if there are any questions, or if anyone knows what instrument was used on the film. I would guess a Minimoog or similar."

Roland SH-3A 44-Key Vintage Analog Synthesizer w/ Original Instruction Manual

"Roland started producing some really unique synthesizers in the mid 1970s, and they were built to a very high standard and certainly have lasted. The SH-3A was conceived as a portable full function analogue synth that had bags of charter and shared much of the same architecture & functionality from the SH-5, SH-7 and even the System 100 etc, so we think this represents excellent value for money.

Background:

Our client purchased this Roland SH-3A new in 1975, so it’s a single owner machine that’s been in their possession for just shy of 50 years, and only ever been used in a home environment. This is a UK model, so 220~240v, and is hard-wired with a UK 3-pin plug which is stored in the compartment within the flight-case in the underside of the synth.

Servicing:

As mentioned above, Kent at KSR has just going the SH-3A a full service, so it’s perfectly working and sounding like a SH-3A should, and he commented that the synth is in beautiful condition inside and out.

Condition:

We rate this as in excellent all original condition, unmodified and complete with its music stand, lid and original owner manual, so very much a collectors grade instrument, that’s ready to play.

Documents:

Although we don’t have the original sale receipt from 1975, the synth does come with its original user manual."

This super rare synthesizer, created by the master Fumio Maeda, is the great grandfather of the MS-20. The PS-3100 comes equipped with an unheard of (especially for 1977) 48 voices of polyphony, scaling controls, patchbay and more. The Kenton Mod adds Midi In/Thru and CV control for pitch, mod, aftertouch and more."

Oberheim Xpander Desktop 6-Voice Synthesizer SN Y91907 w/ Star Dust Cover

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this listing

"Servicing Status: KSR have carried out a service on this Xpander in May 2024.

Remarks: Much has been written on these incredible synthesizers and it's understandable when you use them as they really can deliver a thick analogue wall of sound, and are perfect pad and brass sources just for starters.

The Xpander lineage includes the Matrix 6 and 12 and is a fully midi configured, 6 voice Polysynth - an excellent addition to any analogue set-up and has to be heard to be believed. he Xpander offers a deep programmable architecture for those of you into tweaking but can also be a very user-friendly hands-on preset machine. This means they sit between that digital and analogue medium perfectly and are arguably the best of the hybrid technology of the early to mid-1980s.

About This Xpander:

This example is a USA built unit that works perfectly, and as mentioned above, has just been fully serviced by KSR. The cosmetic condition is all original and absolutely first class, excellent, as you can see from the pictures below, with barely any perceptible marks or signs of use, which is quite remarkable for a 40+ year old music instrument.

The owner purchased a Star Dust cover for it a few years ago and it is supplied with the synth on-sale. The cover is well used and has done a fantastic job protecting the instrument."

Octave Plateau Voyetra Eight Rev 3.5 Synth (with Rev 4 software) + Manual and Midi SN KM4822

Video in the listing previously posted here.

"Here we have a fully functioning and serviced Voyetra Eight rev 3.5 (a rev 3 with rev 4 software) It has everything I personally want in a Voyetra. It has the green internal boards, the less buggy rev 4 os, and has been fully serviced by an expert.

This Voyetra has the rev 3 digimod board. So it responds to midi note off/on and velocity from any midi keyboard. It can of course also be controlled from the Voyetra VPK controller or slaved to another Voyetra for a monster sound. The Voyetra rev 3 is fully programmable from the knobs and program pages of the front panel. A copy of the rev 3 teaching manual and rev 4 reference guide is included. The rev 4 reference guide explains each programming page in a way that is easy to absorb. I'd start with this section of the manual. You'll be programming and making your own sounds within ten minutes. The manual is printed on heavy card stock so it will stand up to years of page turning without ripping or wrinkling. The reason the rev 4 seems to be more popular is it allows you to program with external software as opposed to programming from the front panel but what no one ever mentions is there is a very noticeable amount of latency when using modern third party software to program your Voyetra. It's nothing you would be able to use for real time performances. The multi page layout from the front panel becomes second nature after time. If it's good enough for Gillian Gilbert, it's good enough for me. This package includes a third 5 foot midi cable for connecting to the midi in of the Voyetra (not pictured) so you can attach this to your favourite controller.

Cosmetically this unit is in excellent condition. Over the years the filter for the CPU fan will breakdown and allow dust to enter the machine. A new filter has been installed that is thin enough to allow the air to flow freely but thick enough to catch household dust. The housing of these units are made of heavy gauge metal that is then sprayed with a durable textured industrial paint. Voyetra was a small company and the metal housings do have small inconsistencies and spots where they "missed a spot" or left a rough metal edge. This particular unit is in excellent condition with just a few small indentations or scratches in the original paint. The heat sink is in excellent condition WITH NO BENT FINS ETC. The face of the unit looks gorgeous with very little detectable wear. It has the original tear drop knobs that I find aesthetically more appealing. When my tech had this completely disassembled I had him blow out any dust that had accumulated over the years so the inside looks great. Everything functions exactly as it should and all oscillators tune. This will be a very stable and enjoyable unit to create music on for the new owner. The only way to improve upon this unit is to add the rev 4 digimod board, but that's not a feature I personally miss but I'm old, I like hardware. It has the most desirable green boards and it would be easy to mistake this for a rev 4 because it has the rev 4 software. (Six midi pages) A picture of the rev 3 digimod board is included. You certainly won't be able to find a better sounding Voyetra 8 than this one in my opinion. Some argue it is the best sounding of all the 80s analog polysynths."
