Hologram Microcosm: Cheesy FM Synth Sounds

video upload by Hologram Electronics

"Some cheesy FM sounds from an old Yamaha Portasound going through Microcosm serve as the basis for this track. In case you were wondering, yes, the name of this synth patch is 'harp,' and we ran this 'harp' through the Arp B and Seq D presets to create ambient and synth lead sounds, respectively. We then added some glitchy guitar and drums/bass to complete this dream pop track."

DSI Pro 2 patch Evolution Noodle

video upload by Senti mental

"Last sunday noodle for this year, this time one patch evolving. i have used the patch idea with the LFOs from Christopher White for the P12 - see his very nice video here: [below]
and started from there adding more subtle modulation for filter, envelopes and pitch wheel, ribbon controllers, velocity, aftertouch and oscillator shapes. Four sessions mixed for better audio experience into on. First sound in paraphonic sequencer mode, second paraphonic keys, next with apreggiator in random, last again paraphonic keys. Snow footage from feb. this year.
Only added 25% of reverb in DAW to mush everything together, otherwise no effects except onboard delays. Head phones or decent gear recommend."

Ambient groove using the LFOs on the Prophet 12, some Microcosm haze, and the Digitakt.

video upload by Christopher White

"I love the LFOs in the @Sequential Prophet 12! This is a simple chord progression, triggering the LFOs in the Prophet with 4 note chords. The LFOs do the rest.

LFO1 is. Rev Saw controlling the LPF Cutoff as 16th notes
LFO2 is Rev Saw controlling the HPF Cutoff as 1 quarter notes
LFO3 is triangle controlling the Osc 2 Shape Mod as dotted quarter notes.
LFO4 is Rev Saw controlling the Delay 4 time as quarter triplets. I wanted this to give slight pitch fluctuations.

Osc1 is Tines with 70 glide and 10 slop.
Osc2 is Tri
Osc3 is Sine
Osc4 is off.

The @Hologram Electronics Microcosm is set to HazeA. The @ElektronDigitakt is set to all sorts...

Hope you enjoy."

Desert Songs - Biodata to MIDI

video upload by Love Hultén

"Desert Songs uses Plantwave - a small device that translates biodata from organic material into MIDI. It's not magic and the plants are not composing, it's simply biofeedback creating true organic 'randomness'. Tiny changes in electrical current - the plants act as variable resistors. Cacti was used for this project due to their very sparse and sporadic activity. The cacti garden includes a few different specimens hooked up to probes, and outputs for individual plants can be changed as you go using patch points upfront. The MIDI signals are sent to a Korg NTS-1 for simple waveshaping and then drenched in atmosphere using the Microcosm from Hologram Electronics. To complete the biolab environment look, a custom MIDI visualizer was made mimicking chloroplasts under microscope."

Chroma Console: Sound from Scratch #4

video upload by Hologram Electronics

"In this video, we’re using a barebones mono synth (Korg MS20) with Chroma Console. The MS20 has a mono output and no built-in effects, which makes it a great platform for demonstrating Chroma Console’s stereo effects.

We build two patches (a massive bass/lead preset, as well as a more ambient, tape-like preset). We also explore Chroma Console’s CAPTURE feature, an ephemeral looper/sustainer, which can be used to expand sonic possibilities, as well as a tool for improvisation."

Lisa Bella Donna's hidden sonic sanctuary

video upload by EarthQuakerDevices

"Join us as we take a detailed tour of Lisa Bella Donna's legendary home studio, Appalachian Recordings, deep in the Appalachian mountains of the eastern United States. Lisa is a longtime friend of Jamie Stillman’s since before the inception of EarthQuaker Devices in the early 90s, when they would play punk house shows together. Lisa is a renowned recording artist, composer, sound designer, modular synthesist and educator.

In this incredible episode of Show Us Your Junk, Lisa talks about her early inspirations that led her to start playing music, and eventually using electronic synthesis to craft the unique voice that she envisioned. After hearing Black Sabbath's “Paranoid” and Wendy Carlos's “Switched on Bach” and “Sonic Seasons,” it became clear that music was her destiny. Her stories include recording and editing commercial jingles in the 80s, selling her car to put a down payment on an Arp 2600 synthesizer, and discovering the rich characteristics of recording to 8-track tape.

While this studio packs in a ton of rare gear, Lisa claims she doesn’t consider herself a collector. “My choices are very utilitarian; pretty much everything in here is here for a purpose, and it’s part of the big picture - the great stream of what my albums become,” she says. Some of her staple instruments include the ARP 2600, ARP Odyssey, ARP Omni, Mini Moog, and Fender Rhodes. EQD pedals she frequently uses include the Rainbow Machine, Arpanoid, and Grand Orbiter, but her favorite EQD pedal is the Avalanche Run. She loves it so much that she had a custom rack mount version built, which is patched directly to her main console. “It's one of my favorite reverbs still - one of my most used for sure.”

Lisa has an interesting perspective when it comes to connecting music to visual concepts in nature and her environment. “When I compose music, I see it just as much as I hear it. I look at my arrangements as landscapes or deep woods mountain paths with all the textures and colors of the elements that surround it,” she says. This all makes sense when you see the picturesque plot of land in which she chose to settle down to build her studio and raise her daughter.

Teletype and Just friends | it was practically magic

video upload by patchesinblue

"first time using i2c to have the Monome teletype speak to Whimsical Raps just friends. i started studying and got distracted

the MakeNoise mimeophon is there to preserve and repeat the history of what was said; occasionally; like little echoes of memories that surface suddenly, often blurring the lines between what was said and what was meant and understood

the er-301 adds grains of weariness from having to listen and remember

the Hologram Electronics microcosm creates much needed space to breathe

Thank you to vecteezy for their bird vectors that helped me created the animation"

Warpman Demos Jan Feb 2023

video upload by DecadeBridge

"A few demos using the Warpman cassette player motor controller in different ways.

00:00 - Using the players radio to create and record a hi-hat rhythm with the ableton push. Then switching to the cassette tape to create a chord loop using Warpman. Kick and snare from Rample.
01:46 - Controlling the pitch of the tape using the SQ1 as a CV source connected to the 0HP VCA bridge between the Warpman and modified player.
02:47 - Recording the radio to tape whilst using the Warpman to change the speed of the cassette motor, then playing back the results.
03:20 - Running the player's stereo out through the 0HP VCA controlled by the Moog Subharmonicon's envelopes. The output from the VCA is then connected to the Hologram electronics Microcosm.
04:14 - Another patch using the SQ1 to control the player's pitch whilst using the Warpman to alter the pitch range. 05:31 - A simple dirty breakbeat tape loop."
