Mono Lake

Published on Jun 1, 2020 CatSynth TV

"Scenes from Mono Lake in California, set to original electronic music by Amanda Chaudhary.

'Mono Lake is a saline soda lake in Mono County, California, formed at least 760,000 years ago as a terminal lake in an endorheic basin. The lack of an outlet causes high levels of salts to accumulate in the lake. These salts also make the lake water alkaline...
...Mono Lake is a highly alkaline lake, or soda lake. Alkalinity is a measure of how many bases are in a solution, and how well the solution can neutralize acids. Carbonate (CO32-) and bicarbonate (HCO3−) are both bases. Hence, Mono Lake has a very high content of dissolved inorganic carbon. Through supply of calcium ions (Ca2+), the water will precipitate carbonate-minerals such as calcite (CaCO3). Subsurface waters enter the bottom of Mono Lake through small springs. High concentrations of dissolved calcium ions in these subsurface waters cause huge amounts of calcite to precipitate around the spring orifices.[8] The tufa originally formed at the bottom of the lake. It took many decades or even centuries to form the well-recognized tufa towers. When lake levels fell, the tufa towers came to rise above the water surface and stand as the majestic pillars seen today'

One day | M-Audio Venom Patches

video by MIDERA

"I decided to test out an M-Audio Venom. It was shipped to me for $5 (the Venom itself cost more, of course). When it arrived, it was in a guitar case. No packaging. Just the synth against the cardboard. I would say that this ranked top worst packing I've ever seen as a synth. However, the Venom survived the trip, which suggests the plastic that held it is strong.

When I plugged it in and realized just how little you could edit it on the front screen - I was utterly shocked. I thought it couldn't be a worse interface than the AN1x, which shares its tepid UI. No, it is in fact much worse. You can edit some very basic things like ADSR, filter settings, and some LFO rates, but... you can't edit the oscillators (of which there are a ton).

Anyway, I created these sounds using the software which does in fact still work on Windows 10. And you know - if it had a UI where you could edit every parameter on the synth, it would be pretty amazing. It sounds very good, but the fact that I have to use a computer to truly edit it, means it's not for me to keep.

Used Eventide Blackhole VST for reverb

NOTE: Click here for a review and interview I did with the main designer of the Venom, Taiho Yamada back in 2011. You'll find the interview, followed by some tips and tricks. Taiho also worked on the Alesis Andromeda A6, and the DSP developer of the Venom worked on Radikal Technologies' Spectralis as well as the Accelerator. Taiho Yamada's most current projects are at MOK.

Interplanetary Revolution (Межпланетная революция) - Synthesizer soundtrack for Soviet animated film

Saw Mill River Parkway (from the NYS Thruway to the Taconic Parkway)

video upload by CatSynth TV

"A ride along the Saw Mill River Parkway in Westchester County on a beautiful autumn day. We exit from the New York State Thruway (I-87 and I-287) onto the northbound Saw Mill. This segment is a narrow winding freeway through some wooded areas of Westchester. We exit in Hawthorne, NY onto the northbound Taconic State Parkway, a highway that we will follow in future videos.

Because this section of the Saw Mill reminds me a bit of California Highway 13 (the Warren Freeway) in the Oakland Hills, we are bringing back the music from our CA 13 video along with some changes and updates. The music is in 13/8 meter.

Instruments featured include:
Tabla from EastWest Ra, with MOK Filtryg dual filter
Arturia Wurli V and Buchla Easel V
Sequential Prophet 12
Cherry Audio GX-80 and Sines
Crank Sturgeon Pocket Gamelan
Arturia MiniBrute
Qu-Bit Prism multi-dimensional effects module
Strymon StarLab
Bass from EastWest Fab Four"

Live Every Moment - Buchla 100 Composition

Via Mok in the comments of this post?

"wow, that is a blast from my past! I went to that school and learned synthesis on that Buchla back in '95. It was in a room they named Studio E and I was one of the only 'kids' who seemed to get sounds out of it back then. That room was in such poor shape...I remember nothing quite worked. The pics I've seen here look like things are much improved. I remember when I was leaving, they were just starting to renovate some of the rooms there. Repainting was going on, and the doors and walls were being stripped. Just before my departure, I managed to grab the sign that room had on its door - "ANALOG SYNTHESIS". I still have it - better than my diploma! Anyway, here's a link to a composition I made using that Buchla back in '95. The Buchla is making that sequenced loop that runs throughout. Also has the (broken) Octave CAT in there, along with the opening and closing windows of Studio E. Ah, nostalgia."
