Testing an old VCO - Livewire Audio Frequency Generator & a simple melodic drone

video upload by DreamsOfWires

"I've been tinkering with some of my older, discontinued and obscure modules recently, so I decided to share some of my experiences. Not technical or user guides, just self-indulgeance. This time it's the Livewire Audio Frequency Generator that gets the perpetual noob treatment, an huge, flexible, and pretty damn good saounding VCO with wave-shaping, sub oscillator (both square and triangle), and a bunch of fixed or variable waveforms.

Key features of this are the 'Animated Pulses' and 'Alien Saws', which are both affected by the 'animation section'. Each consist of two waves overlapping eachother, and the 8 pots to the right control the pulse width and phase position of both, but on the higher and lower portions of the waveforms separately... which of couse can all then be modulated! Bonkers! It sounds great though, and you could lose yourself for some considerable time just listening to how these 8 controls affect the timbre of the two waveform outputs.

As always, running the module through my AJH Synth modules never dissappoints - totally vintage charcter and warmth, with no shortage of functionality and physical control. A great-sounding VCF based on the Musonics (pre-Moog) Sonic V, and a VCA based on the early Minimoog, complete with amp-like overdrive when driven hard. The Ring SM is also based on the Moog CP-3 mixer, with -1 & -2 sub-octave generator, and 3-axis ring modulator based on the EMS Synthi/VCS3.

Gear used:
Livewire Audio Frequency Generator V2
AJH Synth Sonic XV diode filter, Dual LFO, Sample Hold & Noise, Ring SM, Discreet Cascaded VCA.
Cosmotronic Cosmix Pro
Happy Nerding FX Aid (as reverb)
Expert Sleepers Disting Mk4 (as WAV recorder)
CASA Modular acrylic case powered by Konstant Lab StrongPWR.
No post-processing, just the audio straight from the modular."

Testing the “final” arrangement of this little Eurorack Modular ;-)

video upload by John L Rice

"Vermona meloDICER being clocked and 'diced' (randomized) by an Erica Synths TRIGG while I play with the melody range. The voice is a Happy Nerding HM VCO pulse wave out into an Erica Synths MODulator module (EG and VCA). The VCO’s pulse width is being modulated by a 2hp Seq sequencer module that is also stepped by the TRIGG module. All in a 4ms Company Pod48x case and reverb from the external Yamaha MG 10 XU mixer.

Doepfer Mini-Voice System

video upload by NOISEBUG

"Here's a super fun, super portable Noisebug custom designed system. Housed in a 4ms POD34X and built around the Doepfer A-111-6 Miniature Synthesizer Voice and Analog Sequencer: This little system is not only self-contained, but extremely capable and sounds massive. Create musical riffs and arpeggios, textured drones or experimental cross-clock-modulated syncopated grooves. Doepfer is known and loved for their high quality analog circuits and easy-to-understand panel layouts. That high quality sound is matched by the transformer-based Happy Nerding Isolator v2. A perfectly tuned output module with balanced outputs and a separate headphone output & level control. All modules are brand new. This system was designed and assembled here at Noisebug.

Contents indlude:
Doepfer - A-111-6 Mini Synthesizer Voice
Doepfer A-155-2 Mini Analog Sequencer
Doepfer A-147-4 Dual VCLFO

MATRIX VCF & Voltage Control - Creating presets with fixed voltages

video upload by AJH Synth Official

"Here I'm using Pressure Points to select different sounds/settings on the Matrix VCF - this filter has full CV control of all functions, including the selection of all 16 different filter types (Mode). Because the Matrix has such a huge range of filter sounds, it is very useful to be able to recall them instantly using a fixed-voltage controller or sequencer.
I'm also feeding it 2 VCOs and noise initially, but later replacing the raw sawtooth waves with the same saw processed by the WAVE SWARM - this is a sawtooth animator, creating 12 additional faux saws from 1 or 2 incoming oscillators to create a fat 'super saw' effect.

Video & Performance by @DreamsOfWires

The AJH SYNTH Eurorack modular range consists of high-end modules, all hand-made in the UK, most of which are based on classic, vintage designs, authentically recreating the circuitry of much sought-after analogue instruments and technologies of the past, whilst greatly expanding them, and bringing them to modern Eurorack levels of convenience, limitless flexibility, and reliability.

Roland TR-1000 and eurorack | Hypnotic dance

video upload by Jay Hosking

"Please support my work on Patreon: / jayhosking
Buy the album here: https://jayhosking.bandcamp.com

This is a set of live, improvised dance music performed on a eurorack skiff with the Roland TR-1000. The TR-1000 provides most of the drums, and the eurorack does everything else.

00:00 - Archaios
07:33 - Elan vital
13:42 - Magnetic sleep
21:58 - Entelechy

I'm really happy with how this set turned out, and will probably try the setup again. I'd also love to give it a shot in a live environment, with actual humans dancing.

Eurorack modules:
Noise Engineering Zularic Repetitor - Gates (rhythms)
Noise Engineering Gamut Repetitor - Pitch (notes)
ALM Busy Circuits Pamela's New Workout - Synchronization, modulation, and LFOs
Forge.TME Vhikk X - Drone
Frequency Central Product - Bass
Mutable Instruments Rings - String synth
Noise Engineering Desmodus Versio - Reverb for Rings
Eowave Domino - Subtractive synth
Happy Nerding FX Aid XL - Delay for Domino
Bastl Citadel Wave Bard - Percussion
Bastl Citadel FX Wizard - Glitchy effects for Wave Bard
Qu-Bit Nautilus - Delay (on a send)
Befaco STMix - Send mixer for Nautilus
Intellijel Mixer 1U - Mixer out for Product and Domino
Intelljel Headphones 1U - Mixer out for Rings"

SUPER saws for the win / with Happy Nerding SUPER SAWTOR (and how to live without it)

video upload by BRiES

"In this video I demonstrate a technique described in the Compare 2 Practical User guide (link below) for how to create animated supersaws. I also demonstrate the amazing Happy Nerding SUPER SAWTOR which makes it so much easier to create that thick sound. Also also: how amazing does that HN MMM VCF sound!?

Thanks to Happy Nerding for supporting this video."

Ambient ghosts - Vhikk X, 4ms Ensemble and SMR, Elta TSC 12

video upload by Jay Hosking

"Two ambient songs performed live with a eurorack case.

Buy these songs on an album here: https://jayhosking.bandcamp.com/album...

This is why eurorack exists to me. I would never come to these sorts of results through any other workflow or gear, would never stumble on these harmonies or gently cascading notes, would never feel out the song progression on a computer or even with a more traditional hardware setup. There are many things eurorack doesn't do as well, but moments like this make me realize why it's so special.

Please go give the album a spin.
