The Strangest, Most Interesting Synth He's Played This Year (Morphor Echon6)
video upload by Starsky Carr
"The Morphor Echon6 is the world's first analog modal polysynth — a genuine departure from the wall of subtractive synths flooding the market right now. In this review and demo I dig into its Karplus-Strong-based exciter and resonator, six voices you can split into six independent monosynths, and a modulation system so intuitive it doesn't need a menu. Full raw demo at the end so you can hear it completely unprocessed.
WHAT IS MODAL SYNTHESIS?
Modal synthesis uses a Karplus-Strong oscillator — an exciter (like a pluck, bow, or hammer) run through a resonator (like a string or instrument body) — to fake physical, plucked/struck sounds. First proposed by Kevin Karplus and Alexander Strong back in 1982, you'll recognise the concept from modules like Mutable Instruments Plaits, Rings and Braids, and digital oscillators in synths like the Arturia MiniFreak and Korg Minilogue XD. The Echon6 takes that same idea and builds it entirely in analog circuitry — as far as I know, the first synth to pull that off.

MY TAKE
The Echon6 is a genuinely fresh alternative to the current glut of subtractive synths — your Jupiters, Junos, Prophets, and OB-style clones. It felt natural within minutes, the modulation is some of the cleverest I've used on any hardware synth, and the build quality is excellent. Compared to the Erica Synths Steampipe (digital modal synthesis), the Echon6 is easier to learn, while the Steampipe can get more chaotic, faster, thanks to its distortion and reverb. Both are worth a look if experimental modal synthesis is your thing — but the Echon6 gets a big thumbs up from me.

Soft Cell - Tainted Love | 80s Synthpop Cover | Maxi-Korg 800DV, PPG Wave & Emulator II
video upload by RetroSound
"My cover of the iconic 1981 Soft Cell synthpop classic “Tainted Love”, recreated with authentic vintage synthesizers and samplers from the 80s electronic music era.
For this version, I used:
🎹 Maxi-Korg 800DV – analog bass and fx synthesizer sounds
🎹 PPG Wave 2.2 – main theme and pads
🎹 E-MU Emulator II – CR-78 drum and additional sampling sounds
The goal was to capture the atmosphere, character and raw electronic aesthetic of classic 1980s synthpop, while giving the song my own production and sound approach.
' Tainted Love ' became one of Soft Cell’s defining songs after its release in 1981. The duo Marc Almond and Dave Ball transformed the earlier soul song into a minimalist, dark and highly influential synthpop classic. The song was originally written by Ed Cobb and first recorded by Gloria Jones in 1964.
Soft Cell’s version became a major international hit and helped define the sound of early-1980s electronic pop, with synthesizers, electronic rhythms and a distinctive minimalist arrangement.
For me, recreating this track with vintage hardware is also a journey back to the analog and early digital sound of the 1980s — before modern software instruments became the standard. Dave Ball wrote me he used the Korg Bass and the Synclavier in the original song."

mechanical minimalism: korg's phase8 + spare parts
video upload by Electrum Modular
"Korg phase8 is a minimalist machine: marimba-like tones, polymetric sequencing, looping patterns. Channeling Steve Reich but also John Cage, here’s my prepared-piano take on the phase8, using brass washers and springs. Disting NT’s Kirbinator pushes it into glitchier territory.

Rithmatic: a DX7 Patch Librarian for the KORG volca FM2
via https://madewithbestpractice.com/rithmatic/
"Rithmatic turns the 64-slot Korg volca FM2 into a searchable, offline library of tens of thousands of classic DX7 patches, all credited to the public collections they came from, and pushes any voice straight to the synth, with full one-file backup and restore of the whole box, plus real-time control of its sequencer transport and live motion. And because it carries its own FM engine, Rithmatic is a playable DX7-style synth in its own right: plug in any MIDI keyboard and play those patches with no hardware synth at all. Korg never made a librarian for the FM2, and unlike the desktop options (Dexed, Patch Base) this one runs on the phone already in your bag. Free, local-first, no account.
Music tooling is a big part of what we do, and we also make Emojio Paint Composer, a browser music sequencer that speaks full MIDI."

Juno 60 & Korg Monopoly Melodic IDM
video upload by the nightwater
"Fun jam starting out with a Pad from the Access Virus TI. The Roland Juno 60 was playing a nice backing lead melody through the Hologram Microcosm. The Korg Monopoly with a nice top lead through the GFI Specular Tempus analog delay. Bass was the Moog Mother 32 and the drums are the Dave Smith Tempest. Some additional reverb from the Strymon Bigsky MX.

VIVALDI - Autumn Part 2 on SIX Korg ARP Odysseys
video upload by Richard Payne
"He knocked it out the park did Vivaldi, with Autumn Part 2. I had it programmed and up on the ARPs for a couple of weeks before I filmed it this afternoon. Was a one take wonder this time, but I had been fiddling with it for a fortnight. And it's very hard to mess up this one.
The Odyssey FS keyboard (on it's side) is taking place of Odyssey #3 (still at the repair place ...) and is handling the 'not needing to be filldled with' bass. Top left (#1) is playing the PWM'd arpeggio. #2, #4 & #5 are playing the 'string' parts and #6 is on sub bass and white noise duties. It's being modulated by it's LFO on the lowest rate.
There's no EQ or mixing going on but I did lean into Ableton's Delay on the Arpeggio and Sub Bass / Wind synths and everything was fed through Arturia's lovely LX-24 Reverb.
Thanks again for watching!"

Korg Kronos 3 vs Korg Prologue - real analogue vs virtual analogue
video upload by j bowman ALL PROCEEDS TO MEDICAL AID FOR PALESTINE
"In this Korg Kronos 3 comparison and patching video, I put the incredible AL-1 synthesis engine to the test by programming it as a virtual analogue synth and comparing it directly with my Korg Prologue analogue synthesizer. Can the Korg Kronos 3 really capture the warmth, character, and punch of a true analogue synth, or does the Korg Prologue still have the edge? Join me as I explore oscillators, filters, envelopes, and detailed sound design techniques to find out.
This video is perfect for anyone interested in the Korg Kronos 3, Korg Prologue, AL-1, Korg Nautilus, virtual analogue synthesis, analogue synth programming, synthesizer reviews, synth comparisons, sound design synth tutorials, keyboard workstations, music production, and synthesis. Korg NTS-4 Performance Mixer | SonicLAB Review
video upload by sonicstate
"We look at the @KorgOfficial Korg NTS-4, a compact Nu:Tekt performance mixer kit with audio interface. Assembly is simple, with clear instructions and no soldering.
It has two mono inputs, four stereo inputs, stereo send and return, cue monitoring, USB retrurn level, headphone output and a two-channel USB audio interface running at 24-bit/48kHz.
There are two FX engines, one on the send which includes delays, reverbs, chorus and a range of master effects such as filters, phaser, decimator, drive, distortion, compression and limiting.
These effects are fixed rather than expandable via the Logue SDK of others in the Nu:Tekt range , but they suit hands-on performance - albeit a little fiddly.
The cue system works pre-fader, giving a basic extra bus at a pinch.
USB ground loop noise is possible in some setups.
Price is around £200"

"My sound patches: https://espenkraft.com
Kawai K3 & K3m patch editor and librarian — it runs in your web browser.
A tool I built to edit and organise sounds on the Kawai K3 and K3m hybrid synthesizer.
Tweak every parameter on screen, pull single patches or whole banks off the synth, back them up as sysex files, or load sysex files from your computer and into the hardware.
I added a little on-screen keyboard too, handy if you're using the K3m.
It runs in a web browser (Chrome or Edge — not Firefox or Safari) with a MIDI interface connected to the synth. It works on PC and Mac, and under Linux.
It's my personal tool shared for anyone who wants it. Setup instructions come in a short readme with the file, but I offer no support on this. It's shared 'as is'.
You can find it in my web shop here (it doesn't cost anything): https://espenkraft.com/b/6r5k7

EMW VPoly 6X: Pads, Strings, and Analog Sounds in a Brazilian VA Synth Module
video upload by Marcus Padrini
"The EMW VPoly-6X from @emwsynthesizers is a Brazilian polyphonic VA synthesizer, in module format, inspired by the classic Korg Polysix.
I had the opportunity to follow part of the development, test different prototypes, and contribute some ideas to the project. In this video, I show in detail how the VPoly works, its construction, its voice modes, effects, timbre editing, and, most importantly, how it sounds.
The VPoly 6X has six voices of polyphony, an oscillator with sub-oscillator, a multimode filter, envelopes, LFO, different polyphonic and monophonic modes, and an effects processor with chorus, ensemble, phaser, delay, and Bloom.
I also show the Spread, an independent feature that distributes the voices in the stereo field and adds small variations in pitch, creating broad and immersive sounds.
