VAV X-Wave: Wave-Crosser

"X-Wave is a crossover-synched signal switcher for the Eurorack modular system. It's simple to use (no knobs in sight), but it's also very powerful!

X-Wave has two Signal Inputs (conveniently named SIGNAL 1 IN and SIGNAL 2 IN). It has only one OUT, though, so it is forced to choose between the two signals you give it. To do this, it listens to SIGNAL 1 and decides if SIGNAL 1 is positive (as indicated by the little +).

If SIGNAL 1 is positive, it sends only itself to the OUT jack.

However, if SIGNAL 1 is negative, only SIGNAL 2 is sent to the OUT jack (as indicated, again, by the little -).

So, if you feed two different waveforms from a VCO into SIGNAL 1 and 2 IN (pulse on 1 and saw on 2 work very well together, for example), the result will be a wave shape that cycles between half of each waveform you provided. If you use a pulse for SIGNAL 1, you can also create wavetable-like effects by varying the pulse width of your pulse wave on your VCO.

There are two other functions on the X-Wave that greatly expand its capabilities:
You can connect a third signal to the + DETECT IN jack as an external control of the switching action. This will make X-Wave stop listening to SIGNAL 1, and listen only to the 3rd signal This is very useful for using a pulse wave with PWM to "scroll" between two other waveforms from the same VCO, inserting sub oscillators to toggle between full cycles of SIGNALS 1 and 2, hocketing effects via use of a sequencer or gate divider, non-synched interleaving and switching effects, and voltage-controlled A/B switching or muting.

You can also invert the polarity of SIGNAL 2 using the provided toggle switch. This can be used to correct unfavorable polarity alignments between SIGNALS 1 and 2 or can also be used to turn X-Wave into a full wave rectifier or external-voltage-controlled inverter if you plug the same signal into both SIGNAL IN jacks.

X-Wave can pass signals down to 0hz (DC) so it can also be used to process LFOs, Envelopes, CV Sequences, and 1V/Octave signals. It probably has other uses I haven't thought of!

X-Wave is 4HP and uses Burr Brown op amps for the main signal path alongside other high quality Texas Instruments ICs for other duties. X-Wave is not a bi-directional switch, so please be aware that the IN and OUT jack labels should be followed when patching. X-Wave uses a high impedance of 1M (10x the typical 100k) for all inputs, so multiple units can be connected via stacking cables/passive splitters (up to 10 inputs can be paralleled while still maintaining traditional Eurorack input impedance standards)."

nonlinearcircuits Dichotomy Paradox 1

video upload by cirtcele

"Updated version of Divine CMOS. Wonderful module for harmonically rich sounds or use as a complex CV patter and gate generator. Thought the LEDs were superbright purple but turned out to be a mild light blue."

via nonlinearcircuits

"This module has been thru a few cycles. The original idea for the design is from an article in Electronotes EN#98 by Lester Ludwig, spectacularly titled ‘A Square-wave Frequency-division Sub-octave Cross-product Module, it’s relationship with Lie algebra, and other related processes’ or more simply known as The Cross Product Module.

The frequencies of two VCO signals are separately divided by /2, /4, /8 & /16 ratios. The corresponding divisions are ANDed together and the results, along with all the raw divided frequencies are mixed together in various ways. You end up with a very harmonically thick, animated sound.

I did a full bloat CMOS (Ludwig’s design was TTL) version for a 4U panel back in 2008 or so, but changed the AND gates to XOR gates for a more ring-modulated effect. Then a minimal, slimmed down eurorack version, called Divine CMOS. This just used the XOR’d signal and outputted a signal determined by the pots.

After some requests for an expanded version, I re-visited the design.

ECHOA STEREO DUAL DELAY AND REVERB PROCESSOR

Four delay lines total — two per stereo channel. Morph delay into reverb from first principles, from clean digital delay to smeared, textured reflections. Route the four lines in series, parallel, isolation, or spectrally. Presets, parameter lock on every pot, character engines, and more.

TIME
Delay time from 1 ms to 16 seconds, up to four taps per delay line, configurable for your sound design. Feedback up to and past unity, and a dry/wet mix per channel. Freeze delay buffers, set tempo with tap on the line buttons, or patch a clock and lock each line to a musical division. Linear or logarithmic time taper options: a full featured, clean delay line.

SPACE
Bend echoes into reverb. Diffusion sweeps a four-stage Schroeder all-pass network from discrete repeats to a wash. Bloom grows short, fixed loops into long modulated plate and hall tails. Damping is bipolar from noon — counter-clockwise darkens the tail, clockwise thins and brightens it.

ENGINE
Degrade each line's voice across with four engines — digital, BBD, tape, vinyl. Saturation, bandwidth limiting, compander, wow and flutter, hiss, crackle, digital glitches. Depth scales from bit-pristine bypass, to a gentle touch of character, to destruction.

CONFIGURABLE FOR PERFORMANCE ROUTING
Parallel, series, mono, or spectral delay-line topologies.

CV MAPPING
Per-CV destination, with attenuverters on every input.

MORPH-6: Algorithmic Lifeforms Synthesizer (First Explorations)

video upload by Laboratory 0

"Six observed entities share the same communication protocol, yet exhibit entirely different behaviors. The same signal manifests as a different physical reality within each: some proliferate like concrete, forming vast resonant structures; others retain an untamed, primordial roar; others persist as translucent organisms of granules, metal, rubber, and glass, sustained through endless cycles of fracture and reassembly.

The windows are not control panels, but communication terminals. What you see are not parameters, but cross-sections left behind as another consciousness passes through the medium. No label can faithfully translate them. Each algorithm is another point of contact with a different lifeform.

Or perhaps they have simply chosen to borrow our world as a place to be heard.

Sinevibes Shift frequency shifter

Playlist:

1. Sinevibes Shift frequency shifter – with KORG NTS-1 mkII
2. Sinevibes Shift frequency shifter – with Elektron model:cycles and KORG NTS-1 mkII

https://www.sinevibes.com/korgshift/

"Shift is a frequency shifter for KORG prologue, minilogue xd, NTS-1, NTS-1 mkII, NTS-3 and microKORG2. It features two distinct models: a frequency shifter and a ring modulator. The frequency shifter model shifts each frequency partial in the input signal’s spectrum upwards or downwards by an equal amount in Hz, changing the original ratios between all frequency partials; this makes the sound more and more atonal, un-pitched. The ring modulator model uses a 2× oversampled sine oscillator as a multiplier of the input signal, producing a new spectrum with all frequency partials shifted both upwards and downwards; this algorithm makes the sound even more atonal and metallic, bell-like.

HIGHLIGHTS

Studio-grade DSP algorithms, calibrated specifically for KORG’s hardware platform.

Individually chosen mapping for every plugin parameter, providing a very natural feel.

Built-in lag filters for noise-free, ultra-smooth parameter adjustment.

Tested and optimized for maximum performance and stability on each individual device type."

The Delay - TC Flashback Triple, Oberheim OB-6, TRex Replicator, Strymon Cloudburst, Ibanez M80M

video upload by thesrabbit

"I was gonna call this "Lords of O'Brien No. 1", as a tribute to the greatest ambient guitar Youtuber, ‪@chordsoforion‬ But I opted for a less facetious and more utilitarian name. That way I can shamelessly shove the highlighted gear list in the title.

I got a TC Electronic Flashback Triple Delay recently and holy crap, instant inspiration. A bit of fiddling with the Toneprint editor and I had my 3 stacked delays for the main simulated Frippertronics tape loop. Then I said, well hell, I already have a TC Flashback II, might as well Toneprint a Frippertronics tape loop delay in that box too. So the OB-6 gets the Flashback II, and the guitar gets the Flashback Triple. I made a 4 step polyphonic sequence for the OB-6. The little Roland DP-2 switch cycles through each step. The Tonex hosts a capture of my own Peavey 6505 amp, clean channel with pre-gain at 6. There's a little (ok a lot) of Strymon Cloudburst at the end for the final chef's kiss.

Too much gear and too many parallel signal chains to list, but deep breath here we go...

Guitar: Ibanez M80M (8-string), IK Multimedia Tonex, Guptech Honker overdrive, Morley Little Alligator volume pedal, TRex Replicator tape delay eurorack module (somehow works fine at instrument level), Two Notes Torpedo Captor M+ with Ownhammer 412 Rect Balanced Cab IR, TC Electronic Flashback Triple Delay (delay 2 is the tape loop), Strymon Cloudburst Reverb

Synth: Oberheim OB-6, TC Electronic Flashback 2 (tape loop), Audiothingies Doctor A (stereo delay and reverb)

Guitar Synth: Boss SY-300, Strymon Cloudburst Reverb (plugin)

MIDI Mod for iOS adds random delay time shifts to the TRex Replicator via a Kenton MIDI to CV box.

Recorded live, first take! (can't f'ing believe it)

No post processing other than a little bit of the Strymon Cloudburst plugin for the final "glue"

Buchla TTA 248T MARF | Quick Start 'Manual'.

video upload by Cinematic Laboratory

"I think it's the first time I made a tutorial without actually using the module. I made two 'Building a MARF' videos where I'd use regular modules like Metropolix, Rene and Stages to mimic the workflow and it already had great music. My channel is educational and I love to make videos like this to learn the module instead of showing it off.

The 248T 'MARF' is a Multiple Arbitrary Function Generator, which translates to a freeform modular composer for melody, expression, and extremely complex movement over time. It's hard to find all that in a single module, so maybe this explains why the 248 is a panel.

If you don't aspire to own a budget Buchla from TTA, your closest equivalent is a Maths with Rene V2. If you have those, try to patch it up like a MARF and be amazed. Simply use cycles as clocks and use any X, Y or C channel for time intervals (to change cycle speeds). In my humble opinion, you shouldn't buy a 5K modular for making 16 step sawtooth sequences. It's about happy accidents and they don't happen if you stay on the path like a responsible musician."

Plinky 12 Chords and Model:Samples

video upload by Making Sound Machines

"In this video, Enrica and Roland from Making Sound Machines play a melodic techno track, performing live with the built-in polyphonic arpeggiator and the sound modulation in Plinky 12 Chords.

Plinky 12 receives a MIDI clock signal from the Elektron Model:Samples, synchronizing tempo and transport between both devices. Model:Samples is a fantastic all-digital drum machine and provides the beats you hear in this clip. All synth sounds are produced with Plinky 12's internal synth engine.

Plinky 12's sequencer advances through a harmonic progression, while Roland performs on the touch surface, editing the polyphonic arpeggio. As the track progresses, he taps the touch surface to add or delete notes in the arp pattern.

Enrica operates the model cycles, bringing in layers of drums, while Roland manipulates the XY pad on Plinky 12, modulating the synth and effects setting. This allows them to build and adjust the arrangement on the fly.

This track was composed for a live set at Club Synth, an event our friends Stijn and Priscilla from This is Not Rocket Science are hosting and organizing quarterly at Ruigoord near Amsterdam. Thank you for inviting us and putting in the hard work to create such a lovely event!"
