4. UVI Rumble | Tips & Tricks
"Introducing Rumble, the first multiband bass synthesizer
Now available with intro offer at https://www.uvi.net/rumble
For the first time, discover a synth plugin that offers full control over the spectrum through three bands: Body, Character, and Air. With each band, a complete synthesis engine, achieving unmatched flexibility and precision in bass sound design."
"Rumble was designed to meet the needs of contemporary bass: the weight, punch, articulation, and movement that bass-led music demands. To deliver that, Rumble’s architecture treats each frequency band as a full synthesizer engine.
Body, Character, and Air each carry their own oscillator, wave-shaper, and effects, then converge through a shared filter stage, multiband compressor, and master EQ, to produce a powerful, unified voice.
The result is the first multiband synthesizer, built for bass from the ground-up. Layered sub-, mid-, and high-frequency content stays structurally separate, which means low-end weight, midrange definition, and top-end air can each be sculpted on their own terms.
The architecture itself goes deeper: vocal-formant synthesis, drone textures, percussive transients, cinematic motion, vintage analog warmth, all live within the same per-band approach.
The factory library is built by sound designers and genre-specialized producers, with a sprawling range of presets covering everything from 808s and wobbles to drones, motion sequences, and abstract textures.
Most synths give you one engine. Rumble gives you three."

via Noisebug
"Not just a synthesizer, but an electronic objet d'art with its own distinct character.
Meet the Blippoo Box, an instrument born from a desire to move beyond conventional synthesis. It is, in the words of its creator Rob Hordijk, "bent by design." This philosophy intentionally contradicts the practice of circuit bending—the creative short-circuiting of existing electronics—by instead building an instrument where complex, unpredictable behaviour is a fundamental feature, not a modification.
At its core, the Blippoo Box is an exploration of chaos theory. It is crucial to distinguish the scientific definition of chaos from the common notion of randomness. A random system has no discernible patterns, while a chaotic system is deterministic: its behaviour is governed by fixed, nonlinear rules. However, these systems are so profoundly sensitive to their initial conditions that their long-term behaviour becomes practically unpredictable. This fascinating duality is the engine that drives the Blippoo Box.
This is what is meant by "well-tempered chaos." The instrument is engineered to constantly seek out "balanced states"—what mathematicians call attractors. Within these states, the machine generates patterns that, while never perfectly repeating, have roughly predictable sonic characteristics. These patterns can persist, creating a stable soundscape, before a tiny change in a knob's position pushes the system across a threshold, causing it to "bifurcate" and settle into a new, entirely different balanced state.
This design fundamentally changes the relationship between performer and instrument. It moves away from total control and toward a dynamic of interaction and improvisation. To play the Blippoo Box is to enter into a dialogue with a system that has its own agency and tendencies. The performer learns to guide, influence, and react to the instrument's chaotic nature rather than dictating its every move.
Plug in, experiment, and let it take your performances to the next level."

He made an entire album with one synth
video upload by Julian "J3PO" Pollack
"In this video, I share the story behind A Brief Odyssey: an ambient synth album I created entirely with a single synthesizer: the Sequential FOURM.
What started as a simple experiment in creative limitation quickly became one of the most rewarding musical projects I’ve ever completed. By removing almost every option from my studio and focusing on one instrument, I found myself working faster, trusting my instincts more, and spending less time chasing ideas and more time actually making music.
Along the way, I discuss the creative process, sound design, poly aftertouch, improvisation, ambient music production, and why limitations can sometimes be the key to unlocking creativity. I also demonstrate several of the patches used throughout the album, many of which became factory presets on the FOURM itself.

"Curves & Membranes is a focused mono synth built around a shapeable Bézier oscillator, two visual modulation systems, and a membrane-based filter. In this full walkthrough I go through the core ideas behind the instrument, how the oscillator works, how the preset morphing and orbital modulators create movement, and how the membrane filter shapes the sound.
The goal with Curves & Membranes was not to make a do-everything synth, but to build something more specific: a synth where sound, shape, and motion are tightly connected, and where the structure stays easy to understand while still allowing a lot of character and timbral movement.
More info: https://www.unusable.net/"
And a playlist of addtional plug-ins by Unusable Engineering:
Playlist:
1. Synaptic Resonance | Neural Vocoder Walkthrough
Synaptic Resonance is a neural vocoder-style effect where incoming audio, or an optional sidechain, excites a two-dimensional neural simulation. That simulation is then read back somewhere else and used to animate a bank of forty steep resonant band-pass filters.
In this walkthrough I go through the basic idea behind the plugin, show how the Stim Plane and Read Plane shape the behavior, and explain how the neural controls affect the way the model reacts, spreads, remembers, recovers, and settles.
The core idea is fairly simple: the input excites the model, and the output is affected by reading the model. That is what gives the plugin its character. It can behave like a vocoder, a resonant filter instrument, or something more unstable and alive depending on how it is set up.

LARKING — Quantized Ambient Drone Instrument
video upload by recoverysounds
www.recoveryeffects.com
"Larking is a 4 voice ambient drone synthesizer that redefines what a playable synth can be. Pitch is quantized, with each voice locking to a selectable key and one of eight musical modes for consistent harmonic control.
A standalone instrument for immediate tactile performance and tonal exploration, Larking functions as a sound design tool, performance instrument, or central voice in effects based setups. It integrates easily into pedalboard systems and complex signal chains.
Without traditional keys, it shifts focus from fixed patterns to guided harmonic discovery. Voices can be triggered via onboard controls, gate inputs, or MIDI, supporting hands on playing, modular systems, and sequencing.
Each voice features independent pitch control that snaps to scale degrees, enabling open ended melodic movement within a stable musical framework.
At its core is a morphing tonal engine. The Shape control moves each voice from a warm sine like foundation into harmonic saturation with analog style overtones, grit, and complexity, delivering a deep resonant low end with strong weight and bass response. Attack and Decay shape voice response from percussive rhythmic strikes to slow evolving swells that dissolve into space.
A global LFO modulates pitch across all voices, from subtle drift to extreme instability. Onboard reverb expands everything into a deep spatial field and atmospheric wash. The result is an instrument between a melodic synth, drone machine, and experimental performance tool, grounded in musical structure and open to pitch based exploration."

Korg USA Mourns the Passing of Jack Hotop, Legendary Sound Designer and Innovator
Some sad news in via Korg.
You can find posts on MATRIXSYNTH featuring Jack Hotop here for a look back on his influence in the synthesizer community. The first post was a simple pic back in 2006.
Press release from Korg follows:
Over a 40-Year Career, the Influential Synthesist and Accomplished Touring Keyboardist Shaped the Sonic Architecture of More Than 100 Landmark Instruments, Including the Historic M1 Workstation
MELVILLE, N.Y. - Korg USA announces with deep sadness the passing of longtime employee, celebrated sound designer, and musical instrument industry icon Jack Hotop. Joining Korg USA (then Unicord) in 1983, Hotop started as Senior Voicing Manager and spent over four decades driving the development, sound design, programming, voicing, and product demonstrations for more than 100 Korg products. As a pioneering engineer and exceptionally skilled performer, his extensive contributions helped guide the evolution of synthesizers and digital workstations from the early 1980s through the modern era, leaving an indelible imprint on instruments used by musicians around the world and for generations to come.
Hotop’s foundational expertise was anchored in a rigorous musical and technical background. Raised in a musical family, he began piano lessons at age seven, inspired by his father, a musician featured on several Broadway cast recordings, and numerous pianists on his mother’s side. By age 14, he was actively performing in local bands on a Gibson 101 organ. He pursued formal training at the Berklee College of Music, majoring in arranging, composition, and accompaniment, before expanding into emerging music technology at the Boston School of Electronic Music under Roger Powell. It was there that Hotop established his core synthesis fundamentals using early hardware including the ARP Odyssey, 2600, 2500, and EMS Synthi, building a deep understanding of waveforms, envelopes, low-frequency oscillators, and modulators.

Modulate the modulations to expand your sound design with Magnolia!
video upload by Frap Tools
"Today we want to transfer a classic 'modular' approach to Magnolia. In most keyboard synths, modulation sources like envelopes or velocity work directly over the sound parameters. However, Magnolia allows you to modulate even the modulation parameters themselves, which is a "patching" style very common in the modular synthesizer world. This video demonstrates a nested modulation that goes up to the fourth degree: the velocity modulates the envelope times, which modulate an LFO, which modulates another LFO, which modulates the cutoff frequency. The result is a very lively and animated patch, even with a simple sound."
00:00 Introduction
00:30 First modulation: LFO 1 over the cutoff frequency
01:53 Second modulation: LFO 2 over LFO 1 amp
03:46 Third modulation: Envelope over LFO 2 amp

RETAKE: WINDANG OFFICIAL DEMO TAKE 2! LFSR NOISE SYNTHESIZER
video upload by Gen Thalz
Follow-up to this post.
"*This is a retake of WINDANG’s official demo. In the previous upload, someone noticed that the audio was only coming from the left channel, and there was also a suggestion to make the demo slower.
So here it is, a more thorough demonstration of WINDANG to the best of my ability, starting with almost all knobs set to minimum except for the filter section, since setting the LPF fully down completely cuts the sound.
WINDANG is a Linear Feedback Shift Register (LFSR)-based noise synthesizer. A deterministic pseudo-random instrument featuring LPF, LPG, VCOs, and Glitch Echo, capable of deep sound design and noise sculpting.
//All sounds in this video were generated entirely by WINDANG. No external effects pedals or post-processing were used. Recorded directly through a Behringer mixer into a GoPro Hero10, with all mixer parameters set to center.

聊一下模块合成器 Bohm:是底鼓也是演奏工作站
video upload by 合成少数派 Synthesis Minority
You can click CC in the player once Meng Qi comes on for subtitles.
"Bohm 的核心设计哲学是“把底鼓做成一个可以更换内核的平台”。不同于别的底鼓模块,是“一个声音,深度可控”;Bohm 是“多个完全不同的合成引擎”,更重要的是,它还带一些 Groovebox 式的生成式功能"
Googlish:
"Let's talk about the Bohm modular synthesizer: It’s both a kick drum module and a performance workstation.
Bohm’s core design philosophy is to create a kick drum module that serves as a platform with swappable "cores." Unlike other kick drum modules—which typically offer "a single sound with deep parameter control"—Bohm features "multiple, entirely distinct synthesis engines." More importantly, it also incorporates generative capabilities reminiscent of a groovebox."
