"Vintage Yamaha SS30 string synth in excellent working condition. Released in 1977, this was Yamaha’s only dedicated string machine—favoured by Ultravox, Magazine, Visage, and Simple Minds for its lush, chorus-rich sound and road-ready build.

Specs & Condition:

• Power: 100V Japanese unit (stepdown transformer required for AU/EU mains)

• Operation: Fully functional, all voices and effects working as intended

"A rare gem from the golden era of string machines – the Yamaha SS-30, a fully analog string synthesizer with dual manual charm and unmistakable vintage warmth. Released in 1977, the SS-30 stands as Yamaha’s answer to the classic Solina and Logan stringers, but with its own distinct character: rich, shimmering ensemble sounds that sit beautifully in a mix or soundtrack.

This unit is in excellent working condition for its age. Attached a picture about one scratch, what is on 2 keys. Except this, all the other keys, sliders, and ensemble effects function as intended. Cosmetically in good shape with minor signs of age – as expected from a true '70s original.
Power: 220V (EU)

Luke Million Studio Tour Update July 2025

"Following the Studio Tour Video I made last November, here is an update with recent acquisitions and changes to my workflow in my Studio.

Some highlights are the Moog Messenger, Arturia DrumBrute Impact 1984 Edition, Synido TempoPAD C16, Aly James Lab Vprom 3.0, Beyerdynamic DT1990 Pro, Modartt Pianoteq 8 and some Franklin Audio Devices.

The biggest change is in my 2nd Studio where the B Team is kept. I have connected those synths to a Franklin Audio SS-6 Switchable Input Stereo DI which then sends audio to my Universal Audio Volt 476 interface connected to a Macbook Pro Laptop.

"Today we take a look at the Crumar Multiman-S, an Italian string synthesizer from 1977.

We also look at the concept of a string synthesizer in general; an instrument that served as a stop gap, but that forged its own identity due the distinctive sound and the records they were used in.

Originally conceived by Ken Freeman, others saw the impending gold rush and got their instruments out. When I say there was a 'string synth heyday', I'm not exaggerating. Here's a list of just some of them:

"This Polyphonic ensemble from Yamaha is in excellent condition, though it does show some tiny signs of age. It is fully working, have been cleaned and refurbished. All the knobs have been cleaned and lubricated. Thekeyboard has been rebuilt, every keys are working correctly without double triggering. The unit has been calibrated following the factory specifications."
