Chase Bliss BIG TIME Delay Showcase | Sound Demo (feat. Modal Element One) ‪@ChaseBlissAudio‬

video upload by Davide Puxeddu

"A pure audio demonstration of the Chase Bliss Big Time hybrid analog/digital echo, utilizing the newly released Modal Electronics Element One virtual analog synthesizer as the main sound source.
No talking, just hardware.

Designed in collaboration with John Snyder of Electronic Audio Experiments (EAE), the Chase Bliss Big Time is a true-stereo hybrid echo that revisits the mixed-up, unique circuitry found in rackmount delays from the early 1980s. In that era, advanced analog engineering was functionally used to prop up crude digital systems. The Big Time intentionally embraces and pushes this hybrid architecture to its absolute extremes.

This video showcases how the Big Time's interactive controls and dual stages of analog coloration transform incoming synthesizer signals:

• Stereo Analog Preamp (Color): Adds beautiful, warm saturation to the input stage, designed to handle a wide variety of instruments.
• Feedback Loop Limiter (State): An analog clipping limiter in the delay path that creates everything from smooth compression to crumbling, misbiased overdrive that slowly disintegrates your echoes.
• Cluster Slider: Blends in additional delay taps and diffusion, smudging and expanding the sound into rich ambient delights and multi-tap clusters inspired by vintage space station units.
• Scale & Motion: Controls creative transposition, Thermae-like musical sequencing, and stereo modulation (Sine, Square, Envelope).

Watch how the Big Time's motorized faders react and seamlessly transition through different delay modes—from tight modulations (3-46ms) to Short (46-736ms) and Long delays, across HiFi, Focus, Warm, and Analog voicings.

Providing the core audio tracking is the Modal Element One. Its 8-voice virtual analog engine, morphable filters, and rich stereo waveforms offer the perfect high-quality sonic canvas to test the Big Time's true-stereo capabilities, input saturation, and analog dry-thru.

🎧 Headphones or studio monitors are highly recommended to capture the full true-stereo imaging and analog character of the pedal.

Special thanks to Chase Bliss!"

Alpha Syntauri at Make Noise

video upload by MAKEN0ISE

"Named for the closest solar system to our own sun, the Alpha Syntauri was a digital synthesizer that ran on an Apple II computer and also had some proto-DAW-like or at least workstation-like capabilities. It was probably created as a lower cost alternative to the likes of the Fairlight or Synclavier systems that would have been accessible only to institutions and to the most wealthy musicians. While not everybody had a personal computer in 1980, that was at least something that many people could save up to own if they wanted to.

Like many older electronic music curiosities, this Alpha Syntauri system hung around the shop here at Make Noise for a while and then made its way on to its next home. But this one was unusual enough that we thought it might be fun to briefly feature it in a video.

The Reel used in the patch walkthru can be downloaded here— happy patching! https://freesound.org/people/makenois...

NOISFERATU - Generative texture synthesizer

video upload by scaepe

via scaepe

"NOISFERATU is a compact handheld generative texture synthesizer. 45 algorithms across 5 banks produce crackling textures, noisy scapes, evolving drones, harmonic blips and digital chaos. Shaped but never fully controlled by four knobs.

They generate endlessly evolving textures, tones and rhythmic patterns. Designed to surprise, resist repetition and never quite settle. Dial in a crackling drone, a stuttering melody, or pure digital chaos.

The front and back panel can be flipped.

It uses and abuses creative approaches like generative wavetables, BitBend address manipulation, probability gates, bitwise logic operations and wild combinations of these.

Powered via USB-C.

Firmware and schematics are released open source."

Dreadbox Artemis #3 | Winterdagen

video upload by Winterdagen

"New one on the Dreadbox Artemis synthesizer! As I've said before I'm a huge sucker for sawtooth lfos plucking filters, so I naturally had to make one of these patches on Artemis. Artemis absolutely delivers, I think it sounds beautiful. For this patch I've been making extensive use of the new mod matrix, which was recently added in a feature update. I love adding movement all over the place and spreading lfo times per voice by adding keytracking.

For this patch I'm also modulating the filter with noise, which gives the patch some lovely grit, and I'm modulating the bitrate of the bitcrusher, which ads some digital texture from time to time. I also love that you have a dedicated slider for reverb size, which detunes the reverb when you move it.

Hope you like the patch!"

Cherry Audio | Expressive Sound Design with Andrew Longhurst

video upload by Cherry Audio

"More expressive performance can be achieved through various technologies and techniques such as velocity, channel aftertouch (pressure), polyphonic aftertouch, and MIDI Polyphonic Expression (MPE). These features allow compatible synthesizer instruments and controllers to mimic the subtle dynamics of acoustic instruments.

In this video, musician, producer, and sound designer ‪@AndrewLonghurst‬ demonstrates his approach to expressive sound design, showcased through his collection of presets for Ensoniq ESQ-1 by Cherry Audio. He provides demonstrations of each technique using the new Expressive E Osmose CE MIDI controller and discusses his choices for setting up these advanced modulations in a preset.

These techniques can be widely applied to other Cherry Audio virtual instruments. Be sure to check the product feature listings and documentation to determine which instruments specifically support some or all of these methods. Additionally, consult your MIDI controller documentation, as compatibility for channel aftertouch, polyphonic aftertouch, and especially MPE can vary significantly in this evolving market.

3. Cherry Audio | Introduction to ESQ-1 Synthesizer with Tim Shoebridge "Ensoniq ESQ-1 by Cherry Audio is a landmark virtual synthesizer that captures the essence and iconic sounds of the classic ESQ-1 polyphonic hybrid digital/analog synthesizer, perfectly timed for celebration of its 40th anniversary.

https://cherryaudio.com/products/esq-...

This plug-in features the original 32 waveforms, allowing it to faithfully recreate the complex, evolving, and richly textured sounds of the 1986 ESQ-1 in software form. Additionally, it comes with advanced features designed for today's musicians and producers. Its elegant design incorporates extensive modulation options, rhythmic pattern generation, and enhanced performance capabilities through polyphonic aftertouch and MIDI Polyphonic Expression (MPE). Ensoniq ESQ-1 also features a library of nearly 400 exceptional presets, including the original factory presets from the hardware, highlighting the best of both classic and all-new sounds.

In a first-of-its-kind collaboration, Cherry Audio partnered with Creative Technology, the current owner of the Ensoniq intellectual property, to obtain official licensing for the original 32 ESQ-1 waveforms for this release. Equally important, we meticulously emulated the sonic signature and behavior of the original hardware's legendary analog filters provided by the renowned CEM 3379 IC. We also precisely recreated its four DCAs, four independent multistage envelopes, three LFOs, amplitude modulation, oscillator sync, and expanded its modulation system. Its accuracy is such that the ESQ-1 software supports drag-and-drop import of individual patches and patch banks from ESQ-1 SysEx files, or directly via MIDI from the hardware. Additionally, the software can export SysEx patch files that are compatible with the original hardware."
