Soft Cell - Tainted Love | 80s Synthpop Cover | Maxi-Korg 800DV, PPG Wave & Emulator II
video upload by RetroSound
"My cover of the iconic 1981 Soft Cell synthpop classic “Tainted Love”, recreated with authentic vintage synthesizers and samplers from the 80s electronic music era.
For this version, I used:
🎹 Maxi-Korg 800DV – analog bass and fx synthesizer sounds
🎹 PPG Wave 2.2 – main theme and pads
🎹 E-MU Emulator II – CR-78 drum and additional sampling sounds
The goal was to capture the atmosphere, character and raw electronic aesthetic of classic 1980s synthpop, while giving the song my own production and sound approach.
' Tainted Love ' became one of Soft Cell’s defining songs after its release in 1981. The duo Marc Almond and Dave Ball transformed the earlier soul song into a minimalist, dark and highly influential synthpop classic. The song was originally written by Ed Cobb and first recorded by Gloria Jones in 1964.
Soft Cell’s version became a major international hit and helped define the sound of early-1980s electronic pop, with synthesizers, electronic rhythms and a distinctive minimalist arrangement.
For me, recreating this track with vintage hardware is also a journey back to the analog and early digital sound of the 1980s — before modern software instruments became the standard. Dave Ball wrote me he used the Korg Bass and the Synclavier in the original song."

Introducing the Pittsburgh Modular Lifeforms SV-2
video upload by Pittsburgh Modular Synthesizers
Pics and details via Perfect Circuit.
[You can find additional demos by Starsky Carr, BoBeats, and Molten Music Technology further below.]
Pittsburgh Modular Lifeforms SV-2
Lifeforms SV-2 from Pittsburgh Modular is a duophonic analog semi-modular keyboard synthesizer that honors classic East Coast subtractive architecture while packing a punch of flavorful twists afforded by modern technology. A full-blown revamp of the SV-1, it features updates to nearly every aspect of the instrument: new oscillator core, classic PGH filters updated with new character modes and overdrive stages, new spring reverb, new response curves and range modes on the ADSR envelopes, a custom 37-key keyboard with pitch-bend and mod wheels, and a redesigned interface with eighty-four patch points along the top. Moreover, a 24hp Eurorack expansion bay with three power headers sits alongside them, so external modules of your choosing can be dropped into the signal path at any point.

Neiro N106 Plugin: Digital Emulation & Real Hardware Render | Sound Demo
video upload by Davide Puxeddu
"In this video, I showcase the true power of the Neiro Audio N106 plugin. We are doing a direct comparison: Digital Emulation vs Real Analog Hardware Render! You will hear the huge difference when the digital preset is suddenly processed through the actual analog circuitry.
How does it work? The N106 is not just a standard VST. You compose your track using their high-quality digital emulation without any streaming latency. Once your MIDI and automations are locked in, the plugin sends your data directly to Neiro Studios. There, it is fed through a real physical Roland Juno-106 (specifically a hardware Kiwi 106 synth). The analog output is recorded using high-end RME Fireface UCX interfaces and automatically downloaded right back into your DAW as a WAV audio file. It's exactly like owning the real vintage analog synthesizer remotely.
To sit perfectly in a mix, I've also processed these sounds through external hardware-style reverb and delay.
🎧 Best experienced with studio monitors or high-quality headphones.

"Connect to a classic analog synthesizer revered for its lush, warm sounds. The Neiro N106 features a rich chorus effect that’s instantly recognizable from classic tracks like 'Jump' and 'Tom Sawyer'.

External MIDI Amiga Synth? Wait, what?!
video upload by Jeremy Parker
"A few years ago I restored my childhood Amiga 500, and only recently found a way to use a soft synth, Aegis Sonix V2, with external MIDI control. I saw @magicalsynthadventure3216 video on the topic a while back, and on a whim decided to revisit the idea of using my Amiga as a synth. Thanks to an Amibay.com forum thread, I learned that it's pretty easy to get Aegis Sonix V2 to respond to incoming MIDI, and so I was off to the races. Enjoy!

Update: An interesting side note is that Sonix was released in 1987 with a beta in 1986. That's 10 years earlier than Dave Smith's Seer Systems Reality, which was released in 1997. Seer Systems Reality is often credited as the world's first soft synth. Curious if the distinction was between an editor/interface for the existing Amiga sound chip vs. a self contained software synthesizer.

LYRA-8, Swarmatron, JEN SX-1000, Strega, and Grendel Drone Commander Emulators by Diego Capoccitti
video uploads by Diego Capoccitti
Use the player controls to skip through videos once started.
Playlist:
1. OktaDie, plugins and iOS app inspired by LYRA-8 ....Coming soon! #synth #sounddesign
"Eight touch-sensitive voices, a cross-modulation matrix, a dual modulated delay and an overdrive — no keyboard, no scale, no quantization anywhere.2. SwarmaDie 2 — Swarmatron (Unofficial) Emulator Plugin | Overview & Demo (VST3 / AU / AAX)
It drifts on its own and never makes the same sound twice.
The plugin will be available on Mac, Windows and iPad.
VST3 / AU / AAX / AUv3, instrument and FX.
Coming Soon on! https://www.diegocapoccitti.it"
SwarmaDie 2 is an unofficial emulator of the legendary Swarmatron analog synthesizer, available as a VST3, AU, and AAX plugin for Mac and Windows. The Swarmatron is iconic for its hypnotic, swarming sound — multiple oscillators slightly detuned against each other, creating that signature ethereal drone. Made famous by artists like Jonny Greenwood, it's a rare and expensive hardware piece. SwarmaDie 2 brings that unique character straight into your DAW at an affordable price. MUSIC: "Hollow Light — Piano & Swarmatron (SwarmaDie 2 Demo)" (Diego Capoccitti - 2026)3. SwarmaDie 2 iOS — Raw Screen & Audio Capture on iPad (Swarm Synth Jam)

"(Please note: This demo was shot a while ago, and several updates have improved the DR-2 even further.) Built into a solid metal chassis, the MODOR DR-2 is a drum machine unlike many others. It sounds refreshingly different from the dozens of X0X clones out there, yet it's still powerful enough to shake club walls.
With its old-school display, spacious interface, and faders, it definitely delivers the kind of '90s nostalgia that I really enjoy. Its different drum machine models offer a vast spectrum of possible sounds, and the MODOR is clearly on the digital side of the sonic spectrum.
It's a lot of fun to perform with (although I occasionally exaggerated the volume a bit while recording this demo). Take your time, learn the machine inside and out, and I'm sure you'll get even better results. I especially like the faders, and programming is quite straightforward. It's a little different from the step sequencers many users are familiar with, but it has its own logical workflow once you get the hang of it.
As a small company from Belgium, Modor Music has certainly found its niche as a boutique manufacturer with its own unique approach to synthesizer design. I congratulate them on creating this fantastic drum machine and welcome its refreshing take on what a modern drum machine can be.#drummachines #synth #synthesizer #technoproducer"

Supercritical Redshift 6 | Cinematic performance
video upload by Jay Hosking
"Please support my work on Patreon: / jayhosking
A live synthesizer jam performed with the Redshift 6 at the centre. Percussion added afterward in the box.
Fair warning: both Supercritical and MAS Distribution sent along their respective gear (the Redshift 6, and the Solarfaze/Polyphrase, respectively) for free. Take that as you will. Neither of them explicitly asked me to make a video with the gear, although I'm sure that was the point, right? But in both cases, the gear they sent along was a joy to play, which is why they're here.
I ended up really enjoying the Redshift 6. It's ostensibly analog where it counts—6 DCOs and VCFs—but it's also really clean and precise sounding, giving it a digital sheen. That's somewhat less my thing. However, it has a few things to really give it personality: multi-timbrality, up to a different timbre for each of the six voices; a Character parameter which vastly can change the sound of a voice, its filter and mixing and more; a great built-in effects suite (can only run one at a time); three pairs of stereo outputs to run your timbres separately (as here); easy-to-setup macro knobs for live performing using multiple timbres, all from one page; and a built-in sequencer for getting basic ideas onto the table without outside help. In many respects, it feels like an iteration on some of the ideas from the Elektron Analog Four, another synth I really love, only with enough voices to create a pad, arp, and drone at the same time.
Here, I run one timbre, a constant note, into the Vongon Solarfaze, which adds chorus and then drive/saturation. The second timbre, a single-note sequence, runs to the Vongon Polyphrase, adding delay. Both of these pedals impressed me way more than I had expected; there is something extremely performable about the Polyphrase that makes me want to get it on the table again straight away. And then for the third timbre, the pad, I run it direct out from the Redshift 6, using the synth's built-in reverb. I'm pretty picky on reverb these days and I think it sounds awesome.
With the macro knob opening all filters at once (to varying degrees), this live performance got huge. I had originally intended it to be only the synth, but once I heard the final performance, and how much it reminded me of a soundtrack cue, I knew I had to add orchestral percussion. I built the percussion out of modified samples from the Reason Studios loop library.
Altogether, it created an extremely cinematic performance and I'm very happy with the musical results. I was having such a good time with it that I'm excited to get back to the studio today and explore a little more. Thanks for listening.

Consonant Dissonance by John C.S. Keston
"Consonant Dissonance is a series of piano improvisations that examine how human expression in piano performance can be emphasized or contrasted by feeding the signals into a bespoke modular synthesizer designed to sample and reprocess the piano in real-time. For each piece the piano signals are handled in different ways. These include granular synthesis, looping, pitch shifting, reverse, analog filtering, delay, and reverberation, all modulated via a function generator, low frequency oscillators, and a sampling touch controller operated by the performer.
Recorded at The University of St Thomas, Schoenecker Center, Audio Studio on a Kawai RX-3 grand piano. Composed, performed, and produced by John C.S. Keston. Gratitude goes out to Alejandro Vega for engineering assistance, and Adam Krinsky for mixing and mastering consultation.
John C.S. Keston is an award winning transdisciplinary artist reimagining how music, video art, and computer science intersect. His work both questions and embraces his backgrounds in music technology, software development, and improvisation leading him toward unconventional compositions that convey a spirit of discovery and exploration through the use of graphic scores, chance and generative techniques, analog and digital synthesis, experimental sound design, signal processing, and acoustic piano. Performers are empowered to use their phonomnesis, or sonic imaginations, while contributing to his collaborative work. Keston founded the sound design resource, AudioCookbook.org, where you will find articles and documentation about his projects and research."

Distinctive Blue – Original 80s Synth-Pop Instrumental
video upload by Ian Dixon
"Distinctive Blue is an original 80s-inspired synth-pop instrumental built around driving bass, bright digital textures, layered synths and the polished electronic sound of the mid-1980s.
The track was created using a mixture of vintage and new synthesizers, combining vintage-inspired sounds, rhythmic sequences, atmospheric pads and melodic synth lines.
For this video, I wanted to show the actual instruments behind the music coming alive as the arrangement develops — from the first synth parts through to the full final mix.

I go over what the board actually is and what's in the box, then jump into a MicroPython REPL to show how the AMY library's synth, voice, oscillator model works, patching up a simple sine voice, triggering notes, and using the built-in PCM/sample engine and tag-based sequencer to create a basic drum pattern. From there I install it in my Eurorack rack, run through the signal chain (MIDI in from the Hermod+, CV/audio out, self-modulation via CV), and share some closing thoughts on where it's strong, where it's limited compared to something like the Disting NT, and what I want to try next (serum-style bass patches with compression/distortion).
If you've got one of these boards — or you're thinking about picking one up — let me know what you're building with it in the comments.

"If you want bells and whistles, this synth's got it! This "The Pool" is in very good condition with very few signs of wear. Comes with its original box, manual and power cable as shown in the photos.
The Pool is a unique synthesizer concept featuring a full bi-timbral panel, four bi-timbral voice cards and a two-bus effects unit. The control panel houses a large 7-inch color capacitive touch screen, 79 potentiometers, 34 encoders and no less than 169 illuminated pushbuttons.
Each bi-timbral voice card features:
2 analog VCOs (type CEM3340) with wave mixer by VCAs, magnificent “natural” saturation beyond the unit gain accessible via modulations and morphers, sync by VCO or digital generator.
2 complex digital generators with classical waves, wavetables, soundfont, additive synthesis, euclidean generator and VCO ADC for complex operations like RING, FM or multiband formants with vowel presets, mixing by VCAs always with this beautiful “natural” saturation beyond the unit gain. You can import your wavetables using the WaveEdit application (). The import of your own soundfonts will be possible later.
Hardware Sync from VCO or Digital generator to VCO.
1 input for insertion of an external signal before each filter group.
2 groups of 2 VCFs (type CEM3320 and CEM3350), Lowpass 12/24 db/Octave, FM via VCO or digital generator for the 3320, Bandpass/
Highpass 12 db/Octave for the 3350, serial or parallel, mixes of the two filters and filter groups on each channel. Hardware FM from VCO or Digital generator to filter 3320.
Two analog envelopes (type CEM3310 with VCA CEM3360) with ajustable/modulable offset (perfect for drone mode) and modulable pan.
Two digital envelopes with adjustable exponentiality from ultra percussive to linear.
Three digital LFOS integrating complex waveforms. You can build your own modulations using the WaveEdit application ().
For each timbre/channel, the envelope VCA incorporates panning and adjustable offset, ideal for drone modes among others."
