Design Philosophy of Every Oberheim Synthesizer with Legend Marcus Ryle
video upload by Anthony Marinelli Music
"Marcus Ryle is one of the great heroes of synthesizer history. At Oberheim in the early ’80s, he worked side-by-side designing with Tom Oberheim on legendary instruments like the DSX Digital Sequencer, the OB-Xa and OB-8, the DMX drum machine, and the groundbreaking Xpander and Matrix-12 synthesizers. These innovations revolutionized electronic music and still define the sound of a generation.
In this video, Marcus shares the inside story of Oberheim’s design culture—why certain features appeared on some synths and not others—and how those choices shaped the future of music.
Beyond Oberheim, Marcus co-founded Alesis, where he helped create the groundbreaking ADAT digital recorder, Quadraverb and HR16 drum machine... and later Line 6, where he pioneered digital modeling amps and effects, including the legendary POD. He also played a pivotal role in helping Tom Oberheim reclaim the Oberheim name, and he continues to be actively involved in the design of today’s newest Oberheim instruments—ensuring the spirit of innovation carries forward.
Few designers have influenced so many eras of music technology—Oberheim, Alesis, Line 6, Sequential, Focusrite and now the reborn Sequential/Oberheim. Marcus Ryle’s story is a masterclass in how his innovation changed music forever."

Joranalogue Audio Design Introduces WALK 4 & WARP 1 Eurorack Modules
Press release follows:
"Emerging from the Joranalogue labs are two exciting new additions to our ever-growing series of fully analogue Eurorack modules. Let's dig into this dynamic duo.
First up: like a sample and hold with a master's degree, Walk 4 combines four analogue accumulators with a clock generator, four white noise sources and an auto reset to create a 10 HP voltage stepping, arpeggiating and random walking juggernaut.
With full voltage control and independent value and trigger inputs for each accumulator, there’s always more stochastic patching to explore ahead. And if you need a reliable master clock source with a huge range, 1 volt per octave tracking and external reset—that’s covered, too.
Meanwhile, its partner Warp 1 is a new breed of analogue waveshaper, based on a precise mathematical relationship between input and output, governed by a variable power function.
From subtle timbral colouring to wild hyperbolic distortion, it provides a level of control that’s unprecedented in waveshapers, combining meaningful parameters, clear LED indication, complete voltage control and DC to supersonic operation.
Friend of the brand BRiES already went and made a couple of excellent overview videos—be sure to check them out below. And, if you want to be among the very first people to patch these modules up, drop by our booth at Machina Bristronica in Bristol (UK), on Saturday the 27th or Sunday the 28th of September!"
Joranalogue Audio Design Introduces WALK 4 | Quad Brownian Accumulator | Quick Overview
video upload by Joranalogue Audio Design
WALK 4
QUAD BROWNIAN ACCUMULATOR
4 high-precision analogue voltage accumulators.
Integrated wide-range clock trigger generator with 1 volt per octave tracking.
Trend parameter for simultaneous modulation of all accumulator values.
4 white noise generators add adjustable volatility.
Constrain provides counteracting force, preventing voltages from accumulating too quickly.
Automatic and trigger-driven reset functions.
Add input adds a continuous external signal to all accumulator outputs.
Joranalogue Audio Design Introduces WARP 1 | Power Curve Waveshaper | Quick Overview
video upload by Joranalogue Audio Design
WARP 1
POWER CURVE WAVESHAPER
Analogue waveshaper based on power functions.
Adjustable exponent shapes waveforms from concave, to straight, to convex.
Hyper mode shapes incoming signals into hyperbolic-like waveforms.
Absolute value function for full wave rectifier use.
Symmetry control for asymmetric waveshaping.
Precision output clipper with independent negative and positive clipping levels.
Regular, inverted and polarity comparator outputs.
Excellent visual feedback: input voltage, output voltage and clipper status indicator LEDs.

"I got this unique synthesizer new, directly from Jürgen Michaelis (Jomox) in 2019 - Serial No. 58. I‘ve only used it a few times, because I haven’t had the time to dive fully into its features.
I still think it has a lot of potential:
- Fully analog signal path
- 6 neurons, which are like voices, combining an oscillator, a resonant filter, envelopes and a special mini-sequencer (see below)
- Each neuron has its own output and also the stereo mix, and can be triggered separately (via round robin notes, or different MIDI channels) or in unison
- Neurons can feedback into each other and themselves, FM each other and “genetically modify“ each other (see below)
- At the same time, neurons can play notes, via MIDI, with the relationships between them still in place - so as if the six voices of a polysynth were all connected to each other
- Each neuron has a mini byte sequencer, which can be used to sequence the filter cutoff, or the steps can be interpreted as a sample, or waveform of the oscillator!
- The sequences of each neuron can also interact with each other, combining in different defined ways to create new, evolved sequences as they run
- There are two external audio inputs, which can be used as the exciter of two of the neurons instead of the oscillator, so you can process external stereo sound as part of the craziness
- You can play it as a 6-voice polysynth if you want!
Perfect condition, comes with original box and individual power supplies for 100-120V and 220-240V."
