Vangelis "Spiral" cover

YouTube via mik300z. Update: stereo version embedded.
"Juno 6 and 106 hard at work here! Just some background info for this cover version. Because I needed almost every sound to come from the analogue juno 6 which does not have patch memory and impossible to sync the arpeggiator clock to the ESQ sequencer, I had to make the track in 2 stages. First, I recorded the Juno 6 alone in the arp. part the whole way through, manually adjusting the PWM and envelope through the chords. Then played it back through the mixer while adding some percussion and bringing in the 106 for the sequenced bass and try and sync the 2 tracks . This time I was adjusting the juno6's parameters in real time to flick between the slow attack chords and fast attack melodyline. It sounds too heavy in the melodyline I know, I just wish I had 3 or 4 more Junos in my setup to assign each one for the different patches. So as you see some of the music and video sometimes sounds out of sync, it was the only way i could do it. This was one of those times I would love a huge studio with real drums and percussion instruments and just go crazy lol! Also thanks to my 9 year old daughter Hannah who did the video, she's getting pretty handy with the camera!"

Elka EK 22

via this auction

"The ELKA EK22 was released in 1986 as one of the last synthesizer models from the ELKA synthesizer factory, and for that also one of the last Italian analogs, ending a great legacy that included the mighty Elka Synthex. What we have here is the usual 6 voice analog 2 oscillator synth with some exotic modulation, sync routings and multi stage envelope generators. Not quite an Oberheim Matrix 6 in its synth modulation capabilities but coming close and on some fronts even superior. A broad range of sounds is possible and its all there; haunting strings, eerie pads, deep monophonic portamento moog basses and leads, fine harps, metallic stuff, low-end brass etc. All with a very good character, tight and compact...a good punch but also enough warmth..Actually this synth sounds pretty darn excellent! I am pretty sure its got faster envelopes then a Matrix 6 and also sounds less gritty/grainy/plasticy. Its an often overlooked synthesizer, proberly not many were built and programming goes with the typical 80ies numerical interface. It also comes with a Rom cartridge containing an extra 89 preset sounds."

The three position voicing switch, bottom right, allows you to accentuate the perfect frequency range for your needs. The knobs are totally interactive, giving you a wide variety of fizzy and fuzzy sounds. Buzzy. Mmmm. The Moog Little Phatty is sequenced by the Elektron Machinedrum SPS-1 MkII which also supplies the beats."

Mini Moog for sale on Ebay

YouTube via lucio788. The auction link or number is not in the video description, so here's a search for Minimoog on Ebay. This post is interesting in that it shows the Mini's raw sound at a very base level. It gives you a sense of a starting point that you can compare to all other mini demos you've heard. This is why these posts go up along with the more "musical." For me it's about the sound and what you can do with it. Every synth brings something to the table. With that in mind here's another video from the same poster:

Also, search on Youtube for "Clara Rockmore" to see the greatest theremin player that ever lived.

The theremin is an electronic musical instrument that is played completely without physical contact. It was invented in 1919 by a Russian physicist named Lev Sergeyevich Termen. If you are new to the theremin, please learn about it. The wikipedia page is a good place to begin:
http://wikipedia.org/wiki/Theremin

About the helmet:
It was made of papier-mâché with a custom LED visor built in ... post production! using Softimage XSI and Adobe After Effects! Yes, it was a visual effect! 3D modeling, manual rotoscoping, and motion tracking/motion stabilization tricks were employed to pull this off. A LED array with animated text was projected on to a manually rotoscoped 3D visor, that was subsequently composited with the original footage using motion trackers in After Effects. The helmet itself took three days to make. I used 7 layers of card stock/normal stock paper strips in a special heavy mix paste recipe. The shape was built around a custom mold of shipping foam and gaffers tape. It was finished off with gunmetal grey paint. The visor was made of plastic cut from a microwave oven splash cover I found at Target for 5 dollars, laminated on both sides with Limo dark auto window tinting. I could see out, but the translucent plastic from the microwave splash cover along with the heavy tinting made it a little bit difficult. On the inside, the helmet was padded with custom cut felt blocks to fit my head size perfectly. The total weight was around 0.5 Kg (about 1 pound).

This video was made for love. Please share it."

Admin: You Might Have Missed Some Posts

Just a heads up that you might have missed a number of posts yesterday, 9/18. All of the timestamps for posts were stuck at 9:59 AM yesterday. This is a problem with Blogger and does not appear to be affecting all blogs. I checked the Blogger help group and others are seeing the same problem.

Why might you have missed some posts? I have the number of posts set to ten per page. When you get to the bottom of the page you click Older Posts to get to the next ten and so on. Well, because of the timestamp issue, when you clicked Older Posts the resulting page did not bring up the next ten posts but instead jumped to posts for 9/17. Posts after the 10th latest post for 9/18 were getting dropped.

To fix this, I went back and manually updated every single post yesterday with a new timestamp that kept the order in which they went up. The Older Posts link now works as expected. If you want to be sure you did not miss anything, I'd go back and review all posts dated 9/18/2008.
