"The little video synth that could rides again. The frame rate on the (web)cam I filmed this with was really strange -- in reality the picture moves/flickers smoothly. Picture of the synth"

A New Beginning

YouTube via MsMotif6 — May 24, 2010 — "Original composition written totally on the Motif 6.
A New Beginning represents a new way of thinking and how the future might be. Its positive with more major chords than I typically use.
I play the guitar live using the pitch-bend wheel for a nature effect and vibrato/modulation.
No software, no looping.
Please enjoy,

BMF Re-Configures Erik Norlander’s “Wall of Doom”

via the Bob Moog Foundation where you'll find more pics and the full story.

"Amos Gaynes [right] and August Worley [left] - To many of you, Amos Gaynes from Moog Music needs no introduction. He is well-known in the synth community for his clear and insightful articulation of all things that involve a Moog tech. Amos understands the contemporary Moog gear inside and out as a tech and as a creator of firmware for some of the newer products. A student of mechatronics at UNC-A, he is well on his way to becoming an engineering force at Moog Music, Inc.

August Worley is an electrical engineer who shares a unique qualification with Bob Moog. August is the only person to have worked at Moog Music Buffalo, Big Briar, Inc. and Moog Music Asheville. He was part of the engineering team who helped Bob develop the Voyager. August was uniquely qualified to work on this modular project, as he formerly toured with ELP as the keyboard tech for Keith Emerson’s Monster Moog Modular. He also developed the pyrotechnics for Keith’s Moog ribbon controller.

Between the two, Amos and August have donated over 60 hours of time to the completely reconfiguration of the Wall of Doom in to its new home." Be sure to see the full article for tons of more pics and the full story behind Erik Norlander's "Wall of Doom" and upcoming event with the system, at Moogus Operandi on May 27th"

Expert Sleepers announces first hardware product - ES-1 Audio/CV Interface

http://www.expert-sleepers.co.uk/

Expert Sleepers are proud to announce details of their first hardware product - the ES-1 Audio/CV Interface.

The Expert Sleepers ES-1 Audio/CV Interface is a Eurorack module designed for use with software such as Expert Sleepers Silent Way (http://www.expert-sleepers.co.uk/silentway.html). It connects to an audio interface using standard 1/4" jack (balanced or unbalanced) or DB25 (aka DSub) connectors, and outputs CVs to analogue synths/effects on standard 3.5mm jacks. When used with the Silent Way AC Encoder software (http://www.expert-sleepers.co.uk/siwaacencoder.html), there is no requirement for the audio interface to be DC-coupled.

The ES-1 offers the following advantages over directly connecting an audio interface to analogue gear for CV control:

* No requirement for the interface to be DC-coupled.
* No need for special cables (e.g. TRS to TS 'floating ring' cables).
* No danger of damage to the interface - the ES-1's inputs are
completely standard balanced audio inputs.
* Much greater output voltage range - up to 9x more than directly
connecting a DC-coupled interface via a 'floating ring' cable.

For more details, please see the ES-1 page at
http://www.expert-sleepers.co.uk/es1.html"

C.M.S. Patched-out ARP Odyssey

via this auction

"In the mid 90s C.M.S. began offering an extensive patch-point overhaul of the ARP Odyssey that essentially turned it into a junior ARP 2600. Check out their continuing work here. However, within a short time they stopped doing the patch-point mods to the white-faced Odysseys because the design of these earliest models made it very difficult compared to later (gold & black, orange & black) Odysseys. As a result, a scant handful of white Odysseys ever got this full treatment, and it looks like no more will ever have it done."

Rekon VST-AU JUNO-106 Editor™

"The VST-AU JUNO-106 Editor™ is a real-time MIDI synth editor that allows you full control of every parameter of the sound on the Roland Juno-106™ synthesizer. Now you can utilize your JUNO-106 to its full potential and build lasting and meaningful patches that will bring new life to your music. You can manage, view and edit all your patches on the computer itself without the hassle of manual dumps. All parameters are fully automatable and you can even use your favorite VST or AU host, or use it stand-alone, giving you the ability to visually program the JUNO-106 to your music via the host sequencer. This ability to model your synth patches in realtime, inside your main music production environment is part of what makes the VST-AU JUNO-106 Editor™ unique when compared to other hardware synth editors. You may also use the standalone application if you do not need to work inside the host or if your host is not supported." full details here

TEDxCardiff - Tara Busch - 04/14/10

YouTube via TEDxTalks — May 21, 2010 —

"It was great news that US artist Tara Busch did a special performance just for us. Tara is a music maker, producer and, in her own words, a gear pornographer. Her acclaimed blog about analogue synths has thousands of readers, and her recent album was very warmly received by critics and fans alike. You can find out more about her here, and heres what the press have said about the album:

Kate Bush for the modern age; ethereal, sinister but strangely sweet. The torch has been passed. More than just another new Kate Bush. NME

With her debut album, the California-based Busch invites us to enter her strange and wonderful universe: ethereal, morbid but also poetic its a sort of musical and feminine equivalent to the films of Tim Burton. The Independent

Pilfershire Lane is an epic experience from beginning to end, and one of the odder pop albums youll get to hear not just this year, but probably ever Artrocker

The album hums with vintage analogue sounds and contains some fine moments for fans of experimental music. ..quite addictive TUNERAKER.COM

Taras own remarkable vocal range have ensured one of the most interesting records in a long time. With her poetic lyrics and understanding of the craft of making music this is an album of special quality. SUBBA-CULTCHA

Relentless Machine

"VIEW FULL SIZE FOR BEST EFFECT

So I decided to illustrate the video that Michel made for Sandy P's Relentless Machine Dream*. I wanted her to look equal parts Wonder Woman, Maria from Metropolis and a heavy dash of H.R. Giger. (Also slightly inspired by the cover of the Tonto's Expanding Head Band album that's propped up on top of my CD case.)

It's funny, that is actually what my fingers do on the rare occasion that I remember to do a reality check in order to try and provoke lucid dreaming.

*If you don't know what I'm talking about, never mind, they are characters from a story. Hey, leave me alone I've been listening to Aphex Twin's Drukqs for about 48 hours straight at this point and my head has gone really funny and I'm having erotic daydreams about synthesisers. I mean, as you do..."
