"Mancing dolecules, sill programing in the awesome way.
Each update is a new born for EDL, but this time, it's like THE biggest gap between having fun assembling sounds, and really groove on an improvised arrangement, HAS been crossed.

That's the truth, to invent this tutorial, all I had to do was to have fun with the soft! (and work, a little bit, ya)

Don't you understand ?
Ssffkin' simple !
Have fun more than ever, wherever you are,
in the train, on the beach, in the car, on the scene !
(the moment you wake, or fall asleep !)

Hope you feel it clear and untertaining, cause it's the best way to learn :-)

Opening Up MATRIXSYNTH-C

New post guidelines here. C is open again. I was requiring a link back to M for a post on C, but I figure if you are sending something in, you know about the site and support it. Links back to M are always welcome as it helps get the word out and ultimately supports the site and the makers of the gear we love. There is one caveat though. I will only post things sent in personally. If you you like the site let me know when you send your stuff in. If it's a promo-mailer email, it will most likely not go up. See the guidelines for what goes up where. Remember to spread the word on MATRIXSYNTH. I want the sites to be about promoting gear and the music of those that support the sites. MATRIXSYNTH Love.

Ian Boddy & Parallel Worlds 'Exit Strategy' (DiN37) Modular Album Out Soon

"DiN37 Exit Strategy CD album by Ian Boddy & Parallel Worlds
(release date 31st of May 2011)

information and track previews now on the DiN web site
http://www.din.org.uk/din/node/379

Both Boddy & Sirros have a long, well documented love of analogue modular synthesisers and the organic sounds and rhythms these instruments can produce so in many ways it was inevitable that these two musicians would collaborate at some point. Sirros started the ball rolling with the composition of a series of both ambient soundscapes and more structured multilayered compositions. These featured his unusual pulsing, throbbing analogue percussion layers, warm soundscapes and beguiling melodies that are in many ways a signature sound of Parallel Worlds. Boddy took this raw material and shaped, arranged and sculpted it into a series of seven inter-linked tracks that form a musical narrative that runs throughout "Exit Strategy". Adding his glissando keyboard sound that was premiered on his album Slide (DiN31 2008) Boddy brought a real emotional focus to the album which, whilst it may seem to journey through dark, subterranean territory has some glorious melodic highlights.

"Exit Strategy" proves once again that the DiN label can conjure up new combinations of sonic palettes from internationally renowned electronic musicians.

lots of modular (and other) machines used in this album of course, like:
Doepfer A100 wall, Serge modular monster, Technosaurs Selector system-D, Arp Odyssey, EMS VCS3 (modded), EMS Random Voltage Generator, Korg MS20, MS50, VC10, SQ10, Trident, PE1000, Roland System-100, System-100m (3 cabinets), Oberheim 4-voice (modded), Analogue Systems RS-Integrator, Analogue Solutions Concussor, Metalbox/CGS modular, (euro system with Livewire, Plan B, 4ms, Cyndustries, Malekko, Makenoise, Harvestman modules), Waldorf microwave XT, Microwave I, Oberheim OB-Mx, Nord Modular, Korg stage echo, Roland space echo, korg ms02, Roland tr606 (modded), Korg ESX1, ES1. etc, etc...."

"This must be one of the rarest synths made "in series"

STRAMP "SYNCHANGER" designed by nobody else than Wolfgang Palm of PPG.

Originally a guitar synth, cv / gate modification is sure possible.

This is a really wild sounding synth, with a filter reminding me of the great PPG 1020.

there are some sound examples on a page but the SYNCHANGER can do a LOT more

and the best news is yet to come: THIS SYNCHANGER is absolutely NEW OLD STOCK from an older music shop. UNUSED. With original papers and original price plate: 1750 DM (old german currency but price in EURO would now be aequivalent)

Brought in a time capsule from the early 80's straight to be listed here.."

circuit bent AKAI S2000 SAMPLE GRINDER + internal SCSI

via this auction
"Many people would suggest that the Aksi S2000 is a rack mounted version of the S20, but this is far from being the case. Its more like a stripped down version of the MPC2000XL without the pads or sequencer, or even a somewhat crippled S3000XLThere are still plenty of these machines still in service in studios all over the world due to the indestructible build quality and that fact they just work, and carry on working...

We have added 9 x 3 way switches to create an 18 way BEND BUS switching matrix that grinds, chops, distorts, bit crushes and splices the samples in memory in all manner of extreme and unlikely ways. More information on the switching matrix setup can be found HERE. Theres no space anywhere behind the front panel other than just above the floppy drive so the switch positioning was dictated by where it could possibly fit.

The switches can be activated at any time and in any playback mode to effect the samples. With more than one sample in memory the sounds tend to react differently depending on how much RAM is used and the numbering of samples, often splicing or chopping two samples together or, in the case of stereo samples, effecting each side of the sample differently. The switches can also be activated while sampling for different effects.

The only drawback to these mods is that the switches can be somewhat permanently destructive to the audio if you're not careful with them, Often the samples will return to normal when no switches are activated, but using the switches in certain combinations tends to slowly degrade the samples in memory and you change switch settings, until eventually everything has descended into a crushing wall of noise. This isn't really a problem if you are using the machine as a kind of standalone sample grinding tool as the fact that it has SCSI means that you can quickly load sounds back in off a Hard Drive or Zip Drive, or even transfer them from you computer based sample editing software.

Mysteriously the standard S2000 doesn't have internal SCSI, but it does have an empty space on the motherboard for the SCSI connector and power. As you can see from the photo below, this space is marked 'S3000XL only'!

We have added an internal SCSI connector to this space which allows you to either remove the internal floppy drive and replace it with an internal SCSI zip drive, or add an internal hard drive. Word has it that S2000 will only format a hard drive to 524MB, but thats plenty of space to save a sample bank to reload it if the mods destroy it in RAM. The S2000 also has external SCSI as standard so you can easily connect an external drive or computer.

Unlike every other Akai ever made, S2000's have a built in mains cable which can be incredibly annoying as its inevitably going to be the wrong length. We have removed this cable and added a standard IEC 'kettle lead' mains socket.

Listen to the demos below below to hear the kinds of sounds that this thing can now produce. The first is a stereo vocal sample, the second is a break loop and the third is a loop made from several different layers of samples.

There is no external effects processing on these demos. All effects are produced using the switches on the front panel"
