Korg PSS-50 super section drum machine

via this auction

"SUPER SECTION PSS-50 PROGRAMMABLE SUPER SECTION

Program Your Backup Patterns and Chord Progressions - a Valuable Assistant for Practice, Recording, and Composing

It's like having your own session musicians ready to play along with your songs and arrangements.

The PSS-50 lets you program both the backing pattern (drums+bass+ strings, brass, piano, etc.) and chord progression. You can then play it back to try out different arrangements, make demo tapes, or simply practice your instrument.

The forty eight built-in backing patterns include 4, 8, and 16-beat, as well as fusion, reggae, disco, ballad, and many more. Each is amazingly realistic and has its own exciting original arrangement.

Since you arefree to arrange the three parts in each backup pattern as you like, you have a possible variety of 100,000 new and different combinations. With the song writing function you can change the backup pattern and chord progression a bar at a time (or even at every half measure for chord changes).

The PSS-50 will store eight of your songs for automatic playback. Add breaks and endings just the way you want them.

The drum section uses digital storage technology to give you real drum sounds that are a far cry from an ordinary rhythm box. Songs can be linked for continuous play or to handle longer compositions.

The tape interface permits infinite song data storage.

Other features include external input jack (for mixing with guitar, keyboard, etc.) built-in stereo effect, stereo drum output with fixed array, drum-stick lead-in, and more."

"Kandi8" - Yamaha XG Demo MIDI by JayB

Uploaded by Hanni13579 on May 7, 2011

"A little uplifting trance piece completely programmed using Yamaha's XG synthesis level 3. The sounds come from a Yamaha QY100, post-processing included only EQing and compression/limiting.

Download the MIDI here: http://www.jaybmusic.net/Upload/JAYB_KANDI8.MID

The video timing is not exact - Windows Live Movie Maker sucks in terms of precise cuts. Anyway it's the sound that counts. :D The software for the piano roll screens is Apple Logic 9."

"hardware: monome 512, monome 64, monome arc4
software: plane

I recorded this video with me talking over it, explaining things, but I liked it better without the voiceover, so I left it out.

I've always loved step sequencers and I see the monome as an opportunity to address some of the grey area between the one knob per function analog step sequencer and step sequencers with memory. The idea is to increase the available note range without sacrificing precision and increase the available sequence length range, without sacrificing direct manipulation and feedback. So, when the arc came around it seemed like a useful navigational tool to manipulate a large plane of data.

I've been referring to plane as a platform because there are a number of variations I want to implement using the underlying development. This version is optimized to serve as a control voltage source. As such, it produces a lot of outputs. The top row is step enable/disable which is typically used to fire off envelopes. Plane is generating control voltages directly. There are no intermediate bits of software or virtual instruments in-between plane and the end of the patch cords controlling the modular.

The row underneath it the playback loop ruler. Pressing anywhere in the ruler area moves the playback loop to that location. A chorded gesture changes the loop size. One section of the sequence can be edited while playback is occurring elsewhere. When the loop ruler goes off the visible edge of the grid, it lets you know in which direction the active stuff is happening.

Included is a very nice saw cloud simulation of multiple detuned oscillators with adjustable fatness which you can plug directly into your modular.

Also included is direct, accurate CV control of an oscillator via a closed-loop calibration procedure. Of course, MIDI output is also available.

This version of plane uses scale degrees and passes though my modal scale quantizer, so you can switch scales on the fly. You can also use a MIDI keyboard to transpose.

Or, it can also follow a programmed chord progression score, allowing you to improvise with a step sequencer within the harmonic framework of a lead sheet.

The bottom two encoders on the arc are serving as looping automated CV sources.

You don't have to use an arc with plane, you can navigate with the mouse or keyboard or powermate. Also, you don't need a 512 monome. All monome sizes are directly supported and can be hot swapped."

Korg Rhythm KR-55B (expanded KR-55) analog drum machine

via this auction

"This is the darker, more experimental and edgy version of the KR-55 that is all over the early Vince Clark stuff. While the pop / rock / disco material that the KR-55 excels at is still adequately represented here, you also get a lot of progressive / alternative / jazz beats with odd time signatures. The 55B also has twice as many presets as the 55. The 55 and 55B have very low noise floors, and the quality of sound is breathtaking.

This particular unit has a damaged plastic housing, which is clearly visible in the photos. However, only the plastic housing is damaged. Every button, dial and switch functions and feels great. No scratchy pots, no buttons that have to pressed a little harder than others...

As you can see in the photo below, there are easily-accessible trim pots to tweak out the sound to your heart's content. Highly Liquid and Analogue Solutions have solutions for retrofitting MIDI.

Service Manual/Schematics, Owner's Manual, and some notes on DIYing a DINsync solution will be included on CD-R."

Analogue Solutions Leipzig-s

YouTube Uploaded by jakobsweb on May 7, 2011

"Analogue Solutions new synth: the Leipzig-s.
A very beefy analogue sound engine with a very unique edge, more on the rougher sound side. I've grown a soft spot for AS synthesizers eversince I got their Telemark which I cannot praise enough. Being a modular and semi-modular fan I do miss patch points on the Leipzig-s and maybe a multi-mode filter to enhance the already vast sonic flexibility of this machine. But aside from my wishlist and personal preferences I must admit that the Leipzig-s is a most powerful musical instrument.
Here I teamed the Leipzig-s up with the Telemark, Vermona DRM1 MKIII drums, the Doepfer A-100 and a string pad from the Roland JX 8-P - ALL sounds are purely analogue.
It's a fairly large file - apologies for that. Headphones recommended. The predominance of the Leipzig-s in the mix is intended."

iDX7 v1.2 Wireless iPad Editor Now Available

"Apple has released iDX7 v1.2 for Yamaha DX7, TX7, TXn16, a free upgrade for all iDX7 v1.1 and v1.1.1 users.

iDX7 v1.2 offers:
- a redesigned look & feel for enhanced readability plus some very tiny UI adjustments to make the workflow even better

- iDX7 calculates the Operator Fine Frequency values exactly as on your DX7; same values displayed on iDX7 and your DX7!
- iDX7 offers a graphical representation of the 32 DX7 algorithms, touching an algorithm on iDX7 selects this algorithm on your DX7

Also, we revised couple of iControlMIDI Apps prices down to meet market demands."

Quasimidi Rave-O-Lution 309 SYNTH EXPANSION rare!

via this auction

"This is the Synth Expansion for the Quasimidi Rave-O-Lution 309 Groovebox / Synthesizer...

SYNTH EXPANSION

Whether you buy one or all three expansion options, your 309's operating system needs to be upgraded to v2.0 (see 'v2.0 Software' box). Luckily, this upgrade is provided as a matter of course, and is easily installed by simply removing a plate from the 309's bottom and swapping the old chip for the new one. Full, clear instructions are given, as is the necessary chip-removal tool.

On either side of the main operating system chip there's a socket where the synth and drum/percussion expansion options are installed. Essentially, the synth expansion adds 37 new oscillator models, offering up to four oscillators each, two new filter algorithms (12dB low-pass and 12dB high-pass), plus sequence-sync'able LFOs. You can now assign 16th, 8th, quarter and whole note values, that follow the 309's tempo, to the LFO. The new waveforms can be auditioned in 32 example sounds, but these memory locations are not accessible under normal circumstances. There are still 128 synth patch memory locations.

The synth expansion offers one -- or is that two? -- especially important new feature if the audio expansion option is also installed: two extra bass/lead synths. These synths can be played on their own MIDI channels, from an external keyboard or sequencer, or set up to double the main bass/lead synth. It's also possible to trigger the extra synths from the 309's drum sections. Let's be clear, though: you do not get two extra sequence tracks, just two extra synth voices.

Each synth has all the programmability the 309 has to offer, and tweaks can be made from the front panel, and sent over MIDI or recorded into the dedicated Master track). Press and hold F1 or F2 (under the display), and you can use the bass/lead synth's controls. For more detailed editing, double-pressing F1 or F2 takes you to the main editing pages, visible on the display."
