"Testing my new work in progress: Ripplemaker

A modular 'West-Coast synthesis' playground, inspired by synths such as the 0-Coast, Phenol and the Kastle.

Following the experimental synthesis philosophy of people like Buchla and Serge, west-coast synthesis offers a very different approach from the traditional subtractive methods of Moog synths. It's much more about experimenting with additive timbres (hence the absence of a conventional filter) and the manipulation of CV signals.

This video shows a typical generative patch concept called 'Krell' (inspired by the soundtrack of the movie 'Forbidden Planet' 'composed' by Louis Barron). It's self-generating, so no sequencers or triggers are used here. But obviously Ripplemaker will be fully AUv3 compatible so you can do slightly more conventional/musical patches with it ;-)

"These are 3 complete Roland System 100M units. The bottom unit consists of a 112, a 121, a 130, a 140, and a 150. The second from bottom has 2 - 182's, a 172, and 2 - 131's. The 3rd complete unit has 2 - 110's, 2 - 140's, and a 150. The loose modules are a 132, a 173, and 2 174's One of the knobs are missing on the 174. Also you should notice a couple like ding/scractches on the middle unit housing (shown in pictures). There are a total of 6 screws that are missing. Aside from those minor cosmetics - everything works great (some dirty pots - but this stuff is old!). Also included are 44 - patch cables and three additional power cables for the modules. "In this patch, the Tonestar 2600 Folktek'd and Tonestar 8106 produce a melodic line and bass counterpoint driven by the QuBit Octone and Intellijel Metropolis sequencers, all added together in the QuBit Mixology with a dash of reverb from the Erica Synths Pico DSP. The Tonestar 2600 produces a high repeating melody while the 8106 employs its Roland-style filter to great affect in a slow, thick bassline. Slowly tweaking the drive and filter settings as the sequence plays out forces the sequence in the direction of thick, beefy distortion. The internal LFOs of each Tonestar modulate pitch, filter cutoff, and pulse width to create an animated, lively texture. Great for people looking for the classic Roland or ARP filter sounds in a modern modular synth voice, the Tonestars play just as well with each other as they do within the Eurorack ecosystem as a whole.

The Tonestar 8106 is a full Eurorack synthesizer voice that is inspired by the classic ARP 2600. It contains a filter made by Tim Caswell, the "Jupiter to Juno" -6dB/Oct high-pass filter, coupled with the Roland IR3109 filter chip that was utilized in most of Roland's classic filters. With a fully featured analog VCO, two envelopes, and a modulation LFO, one has everything needed for phat basslines or searing leads.

The Tonestar 2600 Folktek edition is the classic Studio Electronics Tonestar but with a fresh new panel designed by Arias Blaze from Folktek. It is designed to clearly demonstrate the structure and flow of the module, while also providing some psychedelic and wild graphics. It contains all the electrical components utilized in the normal Tonestar 2600, ensuring the same classic tone.

"Demo of the upcoming DOTS - samples collection for the fantastic ONE sample player eurorack module from Tiptop Audio. Created by Konstantin Gervis (www.zv-k.com / www.station252.com) specifically for the module. Synthesized using a huge Eurorack modular system, various analog and digital synthesizers and a music easel. The sounds were carefully selected to work particularly well in ONE and to be highly usable for live and studio work.

In this video: other than the BD808 bass drum all the sounds are coming from two ONE sample player modules. The first is playing the synth lines - pitch sequenced on Z8000, triggers on the Trigger Riot. The second one is playing the percussion samples - sequenced on the Trigger Riot. A bit of Halls of Valhalla Room on one Z-DSP and Clocked Delays on the second, but there is dry sound too, the FX are to give a taste of how it sounds in a context of a track.

Via the listing: "This is a very rare vintage analog synth with internal click button patch matrix. 4 on board oscillators, with one that can act as an independent modulator. multiple wave forms. one low pass filter bank, that can also be converted to high pass. ring modulator, XY axis for alternative parameter settings on the fly. built in spring reverb, also on right keyboard panel are other effects as well. one ADSR, white noise generator. the keyboard oscillator can act tonally independent of the panel oscillators. Connection on back panel for connection to external sequencer. Has built in speakers, but can be connected to external sources as well. On back panel a modification was built to access external sequencer and disable the function of oscillator tracking. Synth comes in its own case with mint condition chrome legs that screw on bottom of case. Unit turns on but there seems to be a key stuck inside transverse bus bar that can be easily fixed. Otherwise is in excellent condition - all knobs in tact and the unit itself has no scratches and the metal face has no real signs of wear. Buyer must pay for shipping. Winning bidder will receive custom made sequencer built especially for this unit."

By carefully tuning the frequency of our modulation sources, it’s possible to modulate the VCO frequency, and the harmonics it contains, in such a way that the two simultaneous modulations drift in and out of phase with each other. If the modulations are happening in opposite directions, it can create the aural illusion of upward and downward movement happening at the same time."

INTELLIJEL uSCALE II TUTORIAL ~ Eurorack quantizer module

"This is a tutorial of the Intellijel uScale II eurorack module. This is a quantizer module which has two outputs that allow you to generate musical harmonies. It also features a shift CV input which can be assigned to different destinations. In general it allows you to shift notes using CV. In this video I'm using the Kilpatrick Phenol as a sound source (off camera). I use the Make Noise Maths and Korg SQ-1 as CV sources for both the note pitch and the Shift CV input. The uScale II can behave as a standard quantizer if you ignore the menu section. The menus provide control over how the Shift input behaves as well as settings the Output B interval, root note, managing scales and banks and clearing the scale. It's a pretty fun little module because it can take any kind of whacky voltage signal and turn it into something musical and inspiring."

"A little modular imrpovisiation using the Mysteron (delayed by T.C Electronics Alter Ego) and the A-199 as the main sound sources. Intellijel Polaris filtering the A-199s feedback, Mutable Instruments Tides, Peaks, Make Noise Function and also the velocity-out from the Beatstep Pro are used for modulation purposes. The atmospheric sound in the background comes from Clouds, the drumsound is made with the PO-12 which is being filtered by Ripples and amplified by Ears."
