As you might have noticed I've been posting manufacturer videos for SynthFest 2020 as it gives you both a chance to see the makers in person as well as some of their gear. Along with the maker videos there have been artist videos as well. I thought I should share them to pay tribute to the event during the global lockdown. The above is a running playlist of what's gone up so far. As new maker posts go up I'll link back to this post for the full list of videos. It's great to see some of the people and personalities that would have attended the event. Enjoy. :)

Eplex7 DSP releases Replikorp 2249 plug-in instrument for Win / Mac

Published on Jan 13, 2020 Eplex7 DSP

Update: new demo video:

Eplex7 DSP Replikorp 2249 VSTi / AU plug-in retro futuristic instrument with sci-fi analog sounds

"Eplex7 has released Replikorp 2249 plug-in, futuristic sci-fi instrument with vintage analog / early-digital sounds, modular analog sounds, experimental, atmospheric sounds, pads, textures, FXs, soundscapes with vintage dirt and analog dust / noise but with futuristic atmosphere.

This retro futuristic plug-in instrument is compatible with MAC & Windows / VSTi / AU / Mac VST, x32 / x64bit.

The sounds are perfect for Cinematic Film music / Video Game music, various styles of electronic music: (Intros / Outros for various styles of music, Psytrance, Psycore, Hitech, Darkpsy / Forest, Drum & Bass, Techno, EBM, Industrial, Electro, Witch house, Hardcore, Neurofunk, Synthwave, Retrowave,) to Ambient, Science fiction, Horror music, Experimental and more.

In 1981 one insane, but very talented amateur musician from USSR with ability to see future had a dream. The dream of future in year 2249. People stopped working with hands, almost all work was done by automation, robots. People worked just with their brains, most of economy was moved to weird computer network (later called internet) and digital services because nature was damaged by factory overproduction, global heating and so. Difference between rich and poor people was bigger and bigger, rich people afraid of going outside because of smog, waste, radiation from exploded power plants and gangs of poor criminals. While most of human work was automated, it wasn’t possible to fully automate some kind of jobs, rich people needed assistants, babysitters and serious workers. Intelligent people were extremely lazy and poor people didn’t have skills to do precise work. After year 2220, after approval by the corrupt government, leading genetic company started producing real human clones/assistants which were sold to rich families and companies. These clones had modified DNA, but were still human slaves. Richest people wanted to escape from this dark world full of contaminated nature, smog, waste, unhealthy food produced in laboratory and poor anarchists in streets, they dreamed of colonizing Mars, but after many unsuccessful attempts government stopped this expensive project. This was dark, but realistic night dream / prophecy of musician and clairvoyant Alexander. When Alexander woke up, he was dazed. This dream was disaster. The only way to deal with it was to start making musical story to warn civilization. Firstly he started writing storyboard and preparing sounds for his futuristic soundtrack. He was very talented and innovative amateur music producer, electronic engineer developing first computers in his daily job. He created sounds, samples and presets for this soundtrack with analog modular synthesizers, early digital fm synths and his own computer algorithms which were fully futuristic at that time, he used analog tapes and first 12 bit recorders to record his sounds. He was totally obsessed with making this soundtrack, he understood his music as a mission for humanity. After few weeks he quit his daily job to fully focus on music production and writing storyboard (had problems with government because it was illegal to be unemployed in USSR). But one day he get lost...Nobody don’t know where…maybe it was KGB secret police because his ideas and opinions were dangerous for USSR, or he was closed at psychiatric hospital. After few decades his daughter found tapes and diskettes with his sounds/samples. She sold them to us, we remastered it and bringing you this weird combination of vintage and futuristic madness!

THE PROMISES OF FLIGHT: Halloween 2019 Live dawless Volca Jam #VolcaModular #Keys #Bass #VolcaDrum

Published on Oct 29, 2019 Gary P Hayes

Spotted this one on discchord.

"Continuous live dawless jam / improvisation - SciFi Halloween
Composed & Performed © Gary P Hayes in Mount Victoria Australia using
Korg #VolcaBass #VolcaModular #VolcaDrum #VolcaKeys
SFX & Solos on KO2 Reverb/Delay on Strymon Blue Sky
directly recorded on #ZoomH6 plus ambient sound no other processing

"Rough story breakdown - opens, green misty planet, small shuttle appears, crash lands on misty alien planet, drowsy pilot explores around the base of infinitely tall cliffs, in the twilight creatures eyes peer out in the deep forest, breathing, hissing, overhead the occasional space ship blares past, days seem to pass, being followed, distant bells call, see light on hill, panics, runs, enters dark alien 'castle', signs of humanity, but memories, corridors of gruesome happenings, dreamtime, escape from this world, finds unused shuttle on rooftop, flys, escapes over the endless forest, a moment of triumph, but a creature lurks in the shuttle, slo motion struggle, crash, melancholy, it all begins again"

Normally: All the Volcas and the KO2 are routed through MickXer 5 into 1. That then goes into the Zoom MS70 delay/reverb in stereo, then into the Zoom H6 recorder which powers my Beyer DT770 headphones for great mix balancing in real time. The volcas are sync'd as usual in a cv chain with each others in/out and v Drum as master. Also the Zoom H6 will eventually record 3 stereo tracks simultaneously (the vKeys and vModular through the effects) the vDrum and vBass (direct) and the two mics recording the ambient outdoor sounds live. For outdoor jams, power comes from normal phone style powerbanks 10000 & 20000mAh and I use the myvolts ripcord 5V to 9V USB adapter"

Deep Forest Bus Stop | Erica Synths Sample Drum and Graphic VCO

Published on Aug 4, 2019 Carl-Mikael's Cabinet of Curiosities

"I’ll just lay here. Have a nap until sun sets. Back against a plywood bench. The deep forest smells of moist moss. Of bright green pine needles. Of ants and fungi.

Modulated dreams transcend the early summer warmth. The night is as close to never-ending as can be. A low frequency rumble intersects my dreams. Rattles my unconscious body. The morning bus passes. I sleep.

Tiptop Audio Officially Introduces “ONE” Sample Playback Eurorack Module

Tiptop Audio "ONE" from Tiptop Audio on Vimeo.

"ONE brings organic sound and super low latency sample playback to the modular. It differs from other sample players in that it handles the digital audio bits as a continuously manipulated electrical flow, a feature inspired by our analog knowhow. This unique core makes ONE truly integral within the Tiptop percussive modular ecosystem thanks to a lightweight and responsive digital circuit with a very analog feel.

ONE brings a world of colors to the modular right out of the package. We have invited some of the best sound designers in the Industry to create professional sound libraries with content tailored to the unique sonic framework of the modular synthesizer and that fully takes advantage of ONE’s unique qualities. To start with, ONE comes with a SD card loaded with a free set of 60 sounds designed by Glitchmachines. More cards are available to purchase separately each containing carefully selected material with up to 256 sound files. Using your own sample libraries or recordings is easy too, just copy 16 or 24bit mono WAV files onto the SD card, pop the card into ONE and go.

ONE offers several modes of operation, with the primary being the super low latency Trigger mode that retrieves audio data off the SD card adding no artificial processing such as click removal, crossfading, eq or gain normalization. In this mode, it’s a highly transparent player up to 24 bit 96kHz with no interpolation of the audio data: what you put in is what you get out. With a delay as low as 0.25ms from the moment the trigger hits, ONE offers harmonically dense, clear and detailed audio with a great rhythmic feel.

ONE handles external CV through a user selectable multifunction jack. Pitch is the main control with two modes available: Free pitch allows for fine tuning of the playback rate, great for adding subtle vibrato or wild tape speed effects; Quantized pitch maps CV to the standard 12 tone system over 3.5 octaves and is ideal for melodic content. CV can also be used to sequence through files off the SD card allowing far more varied sounds from a single source; almost like an entire percussion section behind the slim panel.

Although originally designed to play tightly with our analog drums and envelopes, ONE’s rich sound quality encouraged us to make it work in a variety of other applications that are less demanding of sub millisecond timing response. The extra headroom at the core level allows features such as Gated playback, Looping, and Triggering with fades in and out to accommodate different types of sound sources from drum loops to polysynth chords to noise sources and other yet unimagined uses.

ONE offers another useful dimension since it can play CV signals too. Drop in a card with LFO signals, random CV, slopes and envelopes for a whole set of new control and modulation possibilities.

ONE is as simple to use as it is affordable and plays extremely well with it’s analog cousins - our vision for bringing samples into the modular world.

**********************************

VCTRS: Lets Get Started

Type: One Shot

Character: Mixed material

ONE includes a card called VCTRS featuring 60 carefully chosen sounds from the 5 sound banks developed by Glitchmachines. We have included some of the most compelling material from each bank in order to showcase ONE’s strengths and demonstrate the broad range of sounds available on the PERC, SBSTRT, KERNL, HYBRD and BENT cards which are available separately from Eurorack retailers.

VCTRS and the other Glitchmachines cards include the entire sound set sampled at 48kHz, 64 kHz and 96kHz. The 48k rate allows for easy pitching up of one octave, 64k offers some pitch upward while maintaining much of the fidelity of the 96k source and full 96k offers the purity of the source as well as the lowest latency possible for great performance.

Forthcoming cards from a wide array of sound designers, artists and producers will expand the range to include poly and mono synth tones, field recordings and even CV source material."
