Eurorack Modular Demos by Brandon Logic

Published on Oct 2, 2016 brandon logic

Playlist:
1. Reflex Liveloop use as a sampler demo.

2. Epoch Twin Peak vs the Klangbau Twin Peak filter. Filter sound comparison.

"From 0 to 3:45 i'm filtering a square wave from the Sputnik Oscillator through the Klangbau then through the Epoch. from 3:45 to 8:40 i'm using only triggers from Mutable Instruments Grids into the audio inputs of the filters (and multing to mod a and b of the Epoch). Here, the Epoch is panned hard left and the Klangbau hard right. from 8:40 untill the end, it's back to the sputnik square and some random wiggling of both filters at onece, still panned hard left and right.

Recording is completely dry, no effects or eq. In this demo, i'm using animodule line amp as a buffered mult to split the signal going into the audio input of the epoch to also go into the peak a and peak b mod inputs of the Epoch. This is because this is similar to how the Klangbau's Tr-F1 adn Tr-F2 controls are internally wired. I am using channel two of the line amp to boost the output of the epoch because it tends to output below standard euro modular level. line amp helps boot it normal euro levels. The Epoch requires more patching for this comparison but it also has more cv inputs for modulation and is a little more flexible under cv control and is easier to fine tune with it's knobs compared to the Klangbau's joystick, which make it hard to dial in two specific filter frequencies to track with other oscillators and v/oct, although the joystick is nice for improv and performance . you might notice that the Klangbau sometimes has a little clipping or distortion. from my experience this is part of the character of the the Klangbau version, which can sound nice! it can be controlled to some extent with the input level knob. The Klangbau will consistently self resonate with the resonance all the way up, so it is capable of longer sustaining rings . the Epoch does not self resonate like this without modulation/pings."

3. Glockenspiel vs Modualr adventures in sound.

"here, i'm experimenting with running acoustic sound (glockenspiel and drum) through my synth for both audio processing and triggering sounds and events. the sound runs through the 4ms spectral multiband resonator to convert the audio into envelopes which are then converted to triggers to fire sounds in the synth and trigger random voltages (wogglebug, ura, a-149 and turing machine) which create the variety of sounds you hear. I'm using the 4ms dual dealy to create the loops. the glockenspiel loop is then going through the reflex liveloop to create the glitchy delay and pitch shifting effects. the drum loops its going the warps parasites dealy and then to clouds for more audio manipulations."

Doepfer A100 Custom Suitcase Analog Modular Synthesizer System

Published on Jan 6, 2014 MarkJenkinsMusic·30 videos

via this auction

"3 VCO, 5 LFO, VC Delay and Trautonium Ribbon Controller System

This is my incredible custom portable Doepfer A100 modular analog synthesiser system, probably the most powerful it's possible to build in such a compact unit.

Think of it as two separate synths - the top row like a MiniMoog with three oscillators, mixer, Lowpass Filter, Envelope and Modulation Oscillator, the bottom row more like an EMS Synthi VCS3 with four slow oscillators, white noise/random, sample & hold, portamento, a voltage controlled delay line, a custom modulation joystick and a touch sensitive ribbon controller.

The power of this system for electronic, ambient, techno, abstract and film music has to be heard to be believed. Here's my YouTube demo [above] of the actual system on sale, please watch it to the end for important information about the sale."

The BENJOLIN Explained (w/ sound demo) #TTNM

Published on Nov 12, 2014

2nd video below.

"Wanna know more about this BENJOLIN instrument thing? Then watch this video demo!

Chaos, noise, drones and sweet music, all from one device!

The Benjolin is an instrument designed by Rob Hordijk and built and modified by a lot of DIYers, as well as some synth manufacturers. I explain the Benjolin's basics with a Klangbau Köln Benjolin Eurorack module. Don't worry though, you will easily understand all other versions as well, after watching this video.

The cool thing about the Benjolin is, that it has some amazing feedback loops built in, which can be used to modulate the sound to the Moon and back ... well, some people say "to Hell and back" ... you decide. There is also the famous Rungler circuit of Rob Hordijk, which generates random, looping or evolving CV sequences via a shift register design (similar to the Turing Machine Eurorack module).

It's tons of fun!

Noise Rack Diary #06: Benjolicious! - #TTNM

Published on Nov 12, 2014

"Installed a Klangbau Köln Benjolin Eurorack module. It's crazy! Crazy good!

The Benjolin plays a locked sequence at first. It is sent through the Tube VCA for some nice distortion and mixed with the XR-VCO's sine wave output. The XR is modulated by the qVCF's self-oscillating low pass output. The XR's 1V/oct input receives the Benjolin's Rungler CV. There are also two LFOs and the joystick, modulating the XR, qVCF and tube VCA.

The Little Putney - Analogue Systems Based Synthi

via Zeitdehner's modular pages where you'll find more pics and the full write-up.

"1x RS-420 Octave controller
3x RS-95e VCO
1x RS-500e EMS Synthi filter
1x RS-20 Ring modulator/multiple
1x RS-510e EMS Synthi trapezoid generator
1x RS-40 Noise, S&H, clock
1x RS-70 Inverter/preamp
1x RS-165 Audio signal mixer
1x RS-190 Meter/inverter
1x RS-390 Mono in / stereo out echo
2x RS-180 VCA

A VCS3 hardware emulation would not be complete without a patch matrix, a joystick and a spring reverb. So, once again, I did a design for a panel with Front panel designer and had it made by Schaeffer AG . The panel is designed to hold a 20x20 matrix by Ghielmetti, a 10x10 matrix as patch pin holder, two Doepfer A-174-1 joysticks, a Doepfer A-199 spring reverb, 20 input jacks to the matrix and 20 output jacks from the matrix."

Plan B Model 32 Vector Plotter Eurorack Module

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.
via this auction

"Plan B Model 32 Vector Plotter Joystick, CV Processor, Manual Gate, Kinetic Gate, CV/Audio Mixer... The module is used and in very nice condition minus the manual gate button shaft is broken but it does work fine and its all there. My system is tilted back so it never falls out and triggers just fine, could be easily replaced it the purchaser so desires. Theres also a wee little bit of rash under the screws and it works just fine! Comes with a Doepfer style power connector and YES it does have the joystick tip, I removed it since plugs interfere with the placement of the stick to open up some room.

This is an AS-IS sale due to the nature of exposed circuitry and I trust whoever will purchases this module will not plug it in backwards!..."

electrotablajam 1

YouTube via behanger. via Ernst van der Loo.

electrotablajam 2

"My electronic tabla (it says "proffessional") controls my home built 32 step sequencer, of which 20 positions are used for this rhythm. The Sool rhythm has 10 beats per cycle.

The sequencer not only plays these voltages up or down, but it can also derive other patterns. I worked these out and implemented these in hardware. I would have to look up how I did this. I do not think of it anymore, as each of the patters is useful. So in a live situation, I just choose a different one at random.

The output of the sequencer is analog, and sends out 0-10 volt. This is then converted to midi by my new miduino, a circuit by Tom Scarff. The software was partley rewritten by me. to make it play in the key of my choice. Using a very secrative math trick called rounding, I made the sequencer play in a minor key, rather than in the 12 tone system. This allows for live tweaking of the knobs without ever being out of key. Freedom!

Then there's my Arcade joystick, which has an home baked circuit that converts the 4 switches and the fire button to 15 different notes, and connects right onto the keyboard matrix of an old casio childrens keyboard which cooks midi note messages. I would do this in the miduino too if I needed to do it again. A series of if/else statements is much easier and more flexible than soldering and debugging a circuit with 8 logic IC's and a over a meter of wire.

Then there's the large joystick. It has a doepfer midiconvertor on board. The miduino has enough pins to do it all together, but I like the fact that it is a funtional unit on it's own. It controls all the effects of the Arcade channel.

The pitch of the tabla can be controlled by the sequencer as well as by the Atari paddle. I made this input on the tabla when I replaced the tuning pot with a precise ten-turn pot. It works with two vactrols.

Sound sources are: cymbals, a Raagini shruti box, the tabla box, a Waldorf Blofeld running 2 patches amplified by a 40 year old Italian tube amp.

I recorded it with my photocamera, which has a rediculously low audio sampling rate. They all have. It's just not a number the camera's are sold by. I should have checked weather I was in the image myself. Now I am a pair of hands on youtube too, looking like the Lorax of Dr. Seuss. A well. It's just a test drive to check if my work is getting somewhere."
