Erica Synths Introduces Nightverb and ResonantEQ

"We at Erica Synths in collaboration with 112dB have developed a unique new hardware reverb effects unit. We focused on the musical aspect of the effect – extremely long decay tails are possible without losing harmonic integrity and since multiple parameters can be adjusted at once, notes can be played individually and held in chords, pitch-shifted at a whim or used to create massive, ambient textures.

Introducing the Nightverb – a stereo reverb with a unique and musical custom algorithm, save/recall functions for all parameters, all in a sleek aluminum case to aesthetically match our lineup of desktop units."

GRAPHIC RESONANT EQUALIZER

Knobula Introduces Echo Cinematic - Eq + Delay + Reverb Stereo Effects Eurorack Module

video upload by knobula

"Introducing Knobula's new stereo effects module, taking dub style performance echo to the next level with multiple modulation sources including a 30" knob recorder."

Press release follows:

"Knobula selects SUPERBOOTH24 to introduce Echo Cinematic as fully-featured, practical stereo effects Eurorack module inspired by influential dub culture

LONDON, UK: electronic music innovator Knobula is proud to introduce Echo Cinematic as the latest Eurorack module to embody its no-screen, no-preset philosophy — presented as a fully-featured, practical stereo effects unit that draws its inspiration from the influential dub music culture that emerged from Jamaica and made its mark on the London music scene in the early Eighties — at SUPERBOOTH24, May 16-18, FEZ-Berlin, Germany…

Actively appreciating Echo Cinematic as a fully-featured, practical stereo effects Eurorack module — as alluded to by its front panel- positioned descriptive (Eq + Delay + Reverb) wording — that draws its inspiration from the influential dub music culture that emerged from Jamaica and made its mark on the London music scene in the early Eighties surely benefits from fleetingly digging deeper into what, technically, made that scene sound so unique. Ultimately, then, analogue tape delays were routinely connected to mixing consoles via a spare channel strip in those iconic recording setups, so engineers were able to manipulate the resultant sound using EQ and effects send controls to create ever-evolving rhythm textures from feedback loops delicately balanced on the brink of self-oscillation. On the face of it, Echo Cinematic clearly eliminates the need for a complex mixing console; instead, it expands on those early- Eighties-developed dub music principals by beautifully integrating a versatile resonant filter with five distinct sources of automation. As such, Echo Cinematic consists of two independent LFOs (Low Frequency Oscillators) for both Eq and Delay modulation; looping 30-second Knob Record functionality, capable of simultaneously controlling every knob on the module’s clear-cut front panel; and two external CV (Control Voltage) inputs — CV A and CV B — for instant assignment to any control upon insertion of a patch cable.

Creatively, Echo Cinematic’s Eq section boasts three selectable filter types — namely, Shelf (high-/low-pass), Peak (peak/notch), and classic Comb; each can be patched into the Fback (feedback) loop (in so-called Dub Mode), Delay (output), or All (entire signal path), including the self-explanatory Dry or Effect signal. Simultaneous to that, the Delay section offers up to two seconds of stereo delay time, complete with Tap delay and grid Snapping functionality to ensure precise synchronisation with the beat or clock signal, while Reverb duties are handled by the same, lush-sounding 24-bit stereo processing found in Knobula’s other cinematic- sounding Eurorack modules — think: no screens, just big-screen sounds!

Says Knobula Technical Director Jason Mayo: “Before Knobula was founded, even, Echo Cinematic was intended to be our Eurorack debut. Duly envisioned as the ultimate dub-style echo module, its development was paused due to Poly Cinematic’s unexpected success; Echo Cinematic nonetheless now represents the culmination of a meticulous three-year developmental journey, the result of which has turned out to be even better than my original concept, so I’m immensely proud to finally introduce it to the Eurorack community.”

Anyone attending SUPERBOOTH24, May 16-18, FEZ-Berlin, Germany is invited to swing by Booth Z365 where Knobula is introducing Echo Cinematic as the latest Eurorack module to embody its no-screen, no-preset philosophy, proudly exhibiting and demonstrating it alongside its Poly Cinematic (8 Voice Polyphonic Synthesiser), Kickain (Kick Drum + Sidechain), Chord Pilot (Midi Chord Expander + Arpeggiator), and Pianophonic (Polyphonic Wavetable Synthesiser) siblings.

Set to ship in June 2024, Echo Cinematic will be available to purchase — priced at £320.00 GBP (including VAT)/€350.00 EUR (Net)/ $399.00 USD (MRP) — through Knobula’s growing global network of dealers"

Elektron Digitakt II: 3 New Features We're Loving - Comb Filter, Stretch Machine and Performance Kit

video upload by Group Technologies Australasia

"Elektron Digitakt II is here and its only been a hot minute since we received this powerful little groovebox sampler. Elektron have managed to pack a stack of great new features that we are making our way through and having too much fun with. In this video we go through 3 new features that have piqued our interest in the short time we've had it.

1. Comb Filter — Elektron have added more filters in the way of FLTR Machines, where one chooses the type of filter they want per track. There are 5 to choose from with the Comb filter sounding amazing and a first for an Elektron box. Comb filter can twist the timbre and transform any sound into something totally new, foreign, or alien like. Throw any sound through the Comb filter and you'll have fun seeing and hearing how far you can take it. Great for sound designers wanting metallic type sounds with rich resonant overtones.

FLTR Machines have 5 different filter types to choose from; Multi-Mode, where you can morph from Lowpass to Bandpass to Highpass filter. EQ, is a parametric equalizer for some precision filtering. Lowpass 4 is a 4-pole lowpass filter with a 24 dB slope for that extra bite. Legacy is the filter from the original Digitakt switchable between lowpass and highpass. The Comb filter has that metallic sound, pitch tuned and crazy resonant overtones as demonstrated in this video.

Similarly on other Elektron boxes, one chooses a 'machine' that relates to the type of synth engine you assign per track. Although here Elektron have adopted that method for different filters. This is a smart way to manage a number of new filters and parameters specific to those filters.

2. Stretch Machine — Elektron have added a new sample playback engine, Stretch machine that allows samples and loops to automatically stretch to the tempo of your pattern/project. It's a granular engine that works extremely well and a feature many Digitakt users have been craving!

3. Performance Kit Mode — here you can make changes to the parameters of a saved kit over several patterns and then smoothly recall the kit and continue jamming. Think of it as an 'undo' function for your sounds and kits. The Digitakt II can also save 1024 kits, so there plenty of flexibility to tweak your kits whilst performing and not be worried about losing the great kits you've created.

There's way more to explore on the new Digitakt II such as 3x LFOs, 128 steps per pattern, the assignable Control All Config, 4x Trig Modes, Euclidean Sequencer and much more. And did someone mention the audio fidelity, outstanding! We'll have more on the Digitakt II real soon.

Cizzle: a killer Casio CZ-style voice from ALM / Busy Circuits

video upload by Tom Churchill

"Cizzle is a Eurorack synth voice from ALM Busy Circuits based around Phase Distortion synthesis, which Casio pioneered in their CZ series back in the 1980s.

It contains two digital oscillators that would typically be combined and used as one voice, but you can also use them independently. Each oscillator can produce four-note chords and has its own VCA, so all you need is an envelope or two to start using this as a complete voice.

A "forgettable" Buchla Filter Circuit is Reborn // 3 Patches with Pas-Isel from Dwyfor Tech

video upload by DivKid

"Pas-Isel is Welsh for Low Pass, handy that when this is a Eurorack filter module.

Dwyfor Tech are a new company who have taken inspiration from what has been said to be a "forgettable" Buchla filter circuit, smashed that into a Korg MS-50 diode ring for a resonance path and masses of lovely guitar pedal style overdrive and they've made that a Eurorack filter with bags of character, and a different tone and circuit design (it's really multiple high shelf EQs).

In the video we share some of the key points in the story of what this circuit was based on and a bit about the company. You can read more about it all on my website in this interview // https://divkidvideo.com/story-time-dw...

'3 Patches with ... ' is a video series where I pull focus on just 3 things with a piece of gear, set of functions or techniques. More of these to come alongside the larger in depth demos in the future.

You can grab a DIY kit from Pas-Isel (and request and assembled one directly) here // https://reverb.com/shop/dwyfortech

*TIMING INDEX // CHAPTERS*
00:00 Hello & patch previews
00:35 What makes this filter special?
01:47 Feature run down
2:20 Raw filter sounds
03:46 Pitch relative tones & a warm fuzzy jumper
04:56 Drums NUKED! Heavy saturation & modulation injections
06:52 Creating excitement with mixed modulation"

"Pas-Isel is a four-pole lowpass filter for Eurorack modular systems, with an architecture unlike any other. Combining design elements from Buchla and Korg, this diode-based VCF uses highpass filters in op-amp negative feedback loops to generate its signature 'wooly jumper' -24dB lowpass response.

Pas-Isel is entirely realised with through-hole components for ease of assembly. This listing is for the full kit version, which includes all components necessary for you to solder together straight away at home. All our front panels are high-quality anodised CMYK prints on chunky, quality brushed aluminium sheet stock, made in the UK. We also offer a panel and PCB set, if you'd rather source your own components, in a separate listing.

8hp wide, 3U high.
Conforms to Eurorack (Doepfer A-100) standards.
33mm depth required for mounting.
Idle power consumption 25mA on both rails.
25kHz self-oscillation power consumption 45mA on both rails.

You can find the build/user manual at tinyurl.com/pasisel - We highly recommend giving it a read before buying, to make sure it's the right kit for you. I can assemble kits to order to provide you with a completed module, dependent on my free time. I charge £50 for my time and labour in this case."

Introducing IOLabs Particles - Touchscreen Physics Simulator for Eurorack

video uploads by IOLabs

A new module from the makers of Flux. IOLabs Particles is currently live on Kickstarter here.

Video Playlist:
IOLabs Particles: Touchscreen Physics Simulator for Eurorack!
IOLabs Particles: Centered Gravity Quantize Demo
IOLabs Particles: Collision Physics Demo

"Live on Kickstarter from Jan 31st 2024!

Our new module offers the possibility to create music using our creative physics engine. Add particles, animated surfaces, portals, black holes and generate gates on collisions, CV output voltages & quantized melodies!

Each particle can have entirely unique physics parameters including acceleration, velocity, mass & gravity! All interact in your simulation to create collisions and XY positional data that can be mapped to generate musically useful gates, voltages & notes. Collisions for some particles may even be switched off so that they move freely around the screen without colliding with other simulation elements.

Multiple quantize zone maps can be used simultaneously to create chords and multiple particles may be mapped to the same output to allow transposition of melodies. CV outputs can be set to send a transposed voltage from another output for easy chord generation.

One particle can control all outputs or all particles (up to 50) can control one output, and anything in between. As with Flux, we have aimed to keep the module as flexible as possible. All simulations can be drawn from scratch using the touchscreen or simulations can also be crafted in fine detail by inputting exact values in the UI.

Multiple external and internal timed resets can be used simultaneously per particle to sync to external equipment or create repetition and complex rhythms as explored in the demo video.

Endless rhythmic and melodic possibilities await!

Please note - the module's hardware itself obeys the real world laws of physics as is in no danger of floating away from your case should you experiment with gravity values. It should however be held in place by mounting screws (just in case)."

How To Make a Test Equipment Drum Machine

video upload by HAINBACH

"Test Equipment was for me always an experiment: using unmusical science, medical and engineering tools for music is Dark Souls level of synthesis difficulty. Coaxing tones out of them requires dedication and patience, but is very rewarding, both in developing new skills and musical results. I tried to stay to true to the tiny test equipment music world, shunning easy solutions to make it music, like using it with regular sequencers, sampling the wall or excessive editing in post. But after a few crucial pieces died off and repair costs sky-rocketed and I decided to combine it with Eurorack modular. I was very surprised by the result.

Analog Drum Loops - LEPLOOP - Sample pack by DinDrum Audio

video upload by DinDrum Audio

"The LEPLOOP is a tiny (2/3 the size of a TB303 or TR606) Italian made analog groove-box with a quirky sequencer. The sequencer generates its melodies and synth lines by recording the sample and hold generator which samples the LFO or noise (basically storing voltages and playing them as a sequence of pitches) It also has a 4 track sequencer based on clock divisions that can be routed to various parts of the synthesiser section and a dedicated Bass Drum Pattern sequencer. These bass drum loops are a feature of this audio demo that was created only with loops in this pack.

This Sample Pack is available at https://dindrum.com/

Sample Pack Contents:-

All Loops (89 Loops) and One Shots (496 one shot hits) in this pack
are 24 bit 44.1 khz Wav files

46 Bass Drum Loops
11 Bass Loops
8 Melody Loops
24 Percussive Loops

New One Shot Hits in this Pack:-

Bass Drums = 160 samples
Bass Tones = 41 samples
Blips Zaps & Claps = 92 samples
Noise HiHats = 50 samples
Synth Tones = 42 samples
Waveforms - Short Cycle = 111 samples

Thanks to a separate synthesizer and sequencer for the Bass Drum, called the CASSA section, ( granCASSA is Italian for Bass Drum) this sample pack contains many Bass Drums and they vary from deep subs to short and sharp kicks. There are also zaps and many other percussive noises all created on the LEPLOOP.

In the "Waveforms - Short Cycle" folder there are short samples good for glitchy percussion but because they are so short they make great “single cycle loops” to use as source material in your favourite sampler or synthesizer as digital oscillators. In fact, these were specifically selected and tested as “single cycle” looped tones. NOTE that they are not traditional Single Cycle loops, as they may contain more than one waveform cycle per loop and the frequency of each loop varies, this creates more interesting tones as there is more information that is looped, rather than a single cycle.
