PING:II
"PING:II 拼图
by Dr Gooi Tah Choe and Darren Ng (a.k.a. sonicbrat)
Photography stops time. Music extends it. Can these two interpretations of time be one? Inter-woven by an oxymoron, PING:II explores this “limbo” in time/space through a jigsaw of two contradicting, yet related mediums. Musicians Darren Ng and Gooi Tah Choe present a discussion with audio-visual works of a joined creative process that crosses sight and sound.
This is the live recording of the performance... live sound improvisation by sonicbrat
Project site: sonicbrat.wordpress.com/projects/ping/
Instruments and Equipment:
Doepfer A100 modular system
Sherman Filterbank II
Moogerfooger MF105 filter
Laptop Synthesis, Live Sampling and Processing (max/msp + Plogue Bidule + Reaktor 5 + field recording playback)
Alesis Ineko
Electric Guitar + Boss RC20 looper + bow + ebow
Most of the synthesis is the A100 with no sequencers, just patching and filtering... with minimalist synthesis from max/msp, reaktor 5 and plogue bidule. Most of the filterings are done with Sherman Filterbank II and Moogerfooger MF105. This audio improvisation was performed live to visual feeds of photography by Dr Gooi Tah Choe."

Librations of the Moon
"Librations of the Moon is a collaboration between three musicians seeking to explore the boundaries of their own craft. Drifting between ambient acoustic melodies, analog sound, looping and electro-industrial verberations, librations of the moon chafes the edges of musical scapes, bringing the performers and the audience out of familiar territory and into new and wonderful nuances of sound through the melding of three extremely disparate profiles.

FREE ALBUM DOWNLOAD::: WENCHUAN and The Sound of Earthquakes
via SoNiCbRaT. See the forum for details. BTW, also see Califaudio's The Sound of Earthquaks.
"Geeks, friends and foes. Let's do our part in lending a hand to help with the recent Sichuan Wenchuan Earthquake. This is my little effort to encourage people to donate. I've even set up a fundraiser page so do drop by. The music in this album uses KORG M3-88, though the mix could be improved (by miles) but I wanted to do it in a day so we'll have to live with the little imperfections.
The recent Sichuan Earthquake in China had shocked the world. With more than 28,000 dead and more than 190,000 injured and many homeless; the victims there need our help."

Secretly Spanking The Monkey via SoNiCbRaT
"We doodled and played with gears and decided to mess around and recorded the outcome. So here's a recording of the half hour noise/synthesis/electronic improvisation session (we were just wacking). And so we went crazy on this one, some nice moments featuring the Tenori-on vs Nintendo DS lite mid way through about 17:05 onwards till about 25:30 (Pathein rawks again); and WY had some flair with my Roland SH101 as he concocted some "bleepy-droney-sireny" noises with modulations and for the cat growls at 23:25 onwards :D ... the sherman filterbank 2 seriously bled our ears, with some bird-like talks and glitches of course... Highly disturbing sounds and noises. We dare you to listen through headphones..."

"This is a synthesis based live improvisation I've done at home. This 16+ minute set features the Doepfer A100 Modular System; Sherman Filterbank 2; and MOOG Little Phatty. All synthesis were created and done on the spot except for the LP which I've just used a preset to start with and did modulations and filtering along the way. Recorded on the KORG MR1000 and delay was applied post. It's a noise and synthesis based improvisation so it's not the usual music you'll hear on my myspace. Session was recorded with KORG MR1000."
You can find the mp3 here.

Just an update that the download link for Sonicbrat's WEAVING, previously posted here, is back up. You can find the tracks here. Also, track 8 was apparently missing from the previous download, so if you missed it, it is now available. I'm disabling comments here to keep them all on the previous post.

Sonicbrat - W E A V I N G
"The W E A V I N G project builds on the ideology of minimalism and improvisation. The album is meant to be listened to from top till the end as a sole entity of sounds and melodies. The sub-harmonics, subliminal changes in timbres and the play of sub-frequencies and hyper-frequencies will leave your ears ringing at the end of the sonic experience."
