Joranalogue MORPH 4 “Dimensional Modulation Array” // a Eurorack morphing mixing modulating VCA hub

DivKidVideo

See the dealers on the right for availability.

"Here we have the Morph 4 Eurorack module from Joranalogue Audio Design. They call it a “dimensional modulation array” which is a fitting name for a quad VCA with all the bells and whistles of a morphing modulation source built in with mixing, MIN/MAX logic, sub mixes, CV over everything and in typical Joranalogue style … simply pushing analogue design that bit further. The potential list of uses cases is massive, so I’ve got lots of technical and musical patches in the video to really put it through it’s paces and give it the deep dive it deserves. This reminds me of Serge style “patch programability” and really giving modulation (something Rob Hordijk says in the key to modular synthesis) the love it deserves. It’s as simple of complex as you like."

Mutable Instruments BLADES // Eurorack dual/stereo multimode filter, folder & saturator

DivKidVideo

"Here we have the new Mutable Instruments Eurorack module ‘Blades’. It’s a dual multimode stereo filter that can be used as a dual mono filter, stereo filter, dual filter in series of parallel blends with CV modulation over EVERYTHING! An exciting addition in the input stage which takes your inputs through a dynamic saturation stage that can also blend (so you can mix both together) across to a wavefolder. You can modulate the input drive so CV modulated saturation or wavefolding is possible before going into the filters."

A DUAL MULTIMODE FILTER…

A CV-controlled overdrive circuit capable of wavefolding.

A clean 12dB/octave multimode filter self-oscillating cleanly across the audio range.

Times two. And this could have stopped here.

FOR ALL THE IN-BETWEENS…

What sets Blades apart is that options commonly presented as multiple choices (low-pass or high-pass? serial or parallel?) are presented here as a continuum, ready to be explored at the twist of a knob or with a CV.

The filter response is continuously variable between low-pass, band-pass and high-pass, and delivers intermediate shelving responses, for more nuanced spectral coloring.

A dual crossfader circuit allows the routing between the two filters to smoothly vary from single to parallel to series.

AND MORE…

Originally thought as a complex filter, Blades turns out to be capable of much more:

A dual distortion with spectral color control?
An oscillator mixer with crossfading, wavefolding, and enough filtering to clean up the mess?
A voice, using one filter as an oscillator, then distorting, folding it and filtering it with the second filter?
A complex oscillator capable of FM, PM and AM?

Joranalogue Fold 6 // multi-topology Eurorack wavefolder demo + TIPS & TRICKS for audio & CV

DivKidVideo

See the dealers on the right for availability.

"Here we have the new multi-topology diode based wavefolder ‘Fold 6’ from Joranalogue. It’s a 4HP Eurorack module with dual series and parallel outputs, two inputs that go through the 6 stages of folding and an additional soft clipping stages for added level and dynamic harmonic saturation. We can control symmetry manually or use the second input to add a voltage to push an input signal into asymmetrical folding and clipping.

As always the video is packed full of patch tips and tricks and musical ideas for you to try out in your own systems. I’d love to hear in the comments how you apply these patch ideas with your own modules."

Instruo Tain // dual bidirectional switch // Eurorack demo & patch tips

DivKidVideo

"Here’s the new dual bidirectional analogue switch ‘tain’ from Instruo. It works as a 2 to 1 or 1 to 2 input or output switcher. It has manual of CV/gate control with latching or momentary behaviour and a handy trick up it’s sleeve is the inbuilt reference voltage. Allowing you to use a trimmer to set a normalised voltage from -10 to +10 volts so you can switch to a voltage as a divider, or sub audio generator, switch from modulation to a static voltage, create octave jumps and more. As always I make these videos educational and packed full of synthesis tips and patch ideas so try these patches and ideas out on your system. I’d love to hear of any variations you’ve been creating with switches in the comments."

"The Instruō tàin is a two channel analogue bidirectional switch, similar to those found on classic semi-modular systems of the 1970s.

With momentary and latching functionality, external control and a manual button per channel, tàin can seamlessly switch between control voltage contours, trigger/gate patterns as well as audio signals all the way into audio rate.

tàin | verb (close) to block up, to move so as to cover an opening, bring two parts together, to make continuous as in a circuit."

After Later Audio Popple // Stereo Eurorack Filter - demo & LOTS of patch tips

DivKidVideo

"Here’s the new stereo Eurorack filter ‘Popple’ from Seattle based After Later Audio. It’s a stereo filter design based on the Mutable Instruments Ripples v1 circuit. You have stereo inputs and then stereo outputs for band pass, 2 pole low pass and 4 pole low pass. Stereo cut off, and resonant controls as well as CV inputs are present plus the addition of attenuverters to fit the cut off frequencies on the left and right sides and there’s addition left and right FM inputs to modulate the two sides of the stereo filter independently. As always I’ve tried to cram plenty of patch tips into the video so I hope you gain some ideas and patch tips for your own systems."

12:56 Dual LFO oscillations & sub audio wobbles
14:10 Filter pings
15:14 Stereo feedback turning sine waves into saw waves
17:03 Dual slew limiter and resonant LFOs

"Popple is an 8hp multimode stereo filter based on the Mutable Instruments Ripples V1 filter section. Popple maintains the buttery smoothness of Ripples filter while giving you two separate audio paths. The audio paths share a resonance, control, a frequency cutoff control, resonance CV input, and a v/oct cutoff CV input. Each channel then has its own cutoff CV input with attenuverters (which are normalled to a 2.5V signal).

Popple will also self-oscillate at high resonance settings, when coupled with the v/oct CV control. Popple can act as a dual sine wave oscialltor as well.

Presale notes

We are running a presale right now. Modules will ship on Oct 7th. All source files will be released on our Github on Oct 7th."

After Later Audio Steps // Eurorack shift register, burst generator, clock, looping melodies & more

DivKidVideo

"Here’s ‘Steps’ from After Later Audio. A 6HP Eurorack module that offers multiple functions including … clock generator, random rhythm generating, rhythm looper, stepped random generator, 8 step sequences, bursts, end of outputs, unique audio rate waves and more!

At it’s core Steps generates an 8 step burst, held gate during it’s bursting activity and end of burst output. The 8 step pulses feed a shift register for either 8 step random bipolar signals of an 8 step looped sequences. Gate rhythms with varying gate lengths and rhythms are generated from the shift register and the whole module works via button or external trigger or in a looping state.

Steps covers a range of essential functions for any modular system as the potential use cases are massive. This video aims to highlight plenty of them as well as showing how the module functions technically and musically."

Instruo Lion (matrix mixer) // Pin style patching in Eurorack with inserts, sum, attenuation + more

DivKidVideo

"Here’s the new Lion (pronounced Leon) from Instruo. It’s a TRS 6x6 pin style matrix for not only routing and mixing inputs to outputs but as the patch bay uses TRS sockets we can also use Y cables as inserts as well. This allows for easy routing of processors and FX along with making feedback loops, using inverters to build MID / SIDE matrixes from stereo sources, we can also passively split signals with normal patch cables, both attenuate and amplify and a whole lot more. It’s DC coupled at the inputs and outputs so it’s good for either audio or CV and it comes with the pin style TRS cables and a pair of insert cables too."

"The Instruō lìon is a 6×6 matrix mixer with a pin style interface similar to those found on iconic modular synthesizers of the 1970s. Its applications range from signal routing and effect insert functionality to true summing with cascaded attenuation capabilities.

Live patching made easy with the use of the included pin and
insert cables.

Need to patch to a new destination? Simply pin your patch on the fly.

Centralise your I/O network with lìon.

lìon | noun (networking) an open-meshed form, twisted, knotted or woven together at regular intervals, a group of communication stations operating under unified control."

Mutable Instruments Ripples (NEW! 2020 version) // Multimode Eurorack Filter Demo & Patch Ideas!

Published on Jun 3, 2020 DivKidVideo

"Here we have the new 2020 updated version of Ripples from Mutable Instruments. It’s an 8HP multimode filter module with low pass, band pass and high pass outputs. The LP and BP outputs have switchable 2 or 4 pole responses, the low pass has an additional VCA level control (great for AM synthesis, or general enveloped level control). There’s also now two inputs (rather than one), one of which has a saturation circuit for overdriving sounds into the filter or for bringing up the levels of external gear. The circuit is resonance compensated giving a generally “classic Japanese” flavour. As always I try to make module demos synthesis tutorials, full of patch ideas and packed with sound design tips and tricks. So I hope you can try and apply these patches in your own systems as well as get a good luck at Ripples."

Erica Synths PICO DRUM2 // Tiny Eurorack drum synthesiser a BIG sound

Published on May 4, 2020 DivKidVideo

"**TIMING INDEX BELOW**

Here we have the new PICO DRUM2 module from Erica Synths. Unlike the PICO DRUMS (which is sample based) the DRUM2 is a full on drum synthesiser. It has 8 algorithms that cross traditional drum & percussion sounds, melodic basslines and some really filfthy hits for drum sounds or riffs. It tracks 1v/oct, has assignable CV to algorithm parameters, decay or algorithm select meaning it’s easy with some careful sequencing to turn a single module into a whole beat and drum kit. With such a wide range to the module there’s lots of patches so feel free of course to skip around with the timing index and sections below. I’ve added lots of beats with no talking, each algorithm is explored, CV configuration is demonstrated and there’s also tuning the DRUM2 into a full drum kit vibe with some careful sequencing.

NOTE - “beat break” patches are no talking patches with the intention of showing the wide range of sounds these can produce across a range of different styles. There’s additional sounds and processing on some of them but they all label what the two DRUM2 modules are doing on screen.
