"Come hang out with me as I go deep into the new Ghost module designed by Endorphines and Andrew Huang!
Is it too cramped? Is it too noisy? Or is it perfect?
Let's find out :)"
"Collabs are all the rage these days, and this one comes from a meeting of Endorphin.es and massive Youtuber/Producer Andrew Huang. Ghost is a multi-function effects and processing module, with delay, filtering, reverb, sidechaining and distortion, but not necessarily in that order - its, fluid due to some nifty DSP work from Endorphin.es.
Modular performer and producer, MATTHS (aka Matt Hodson) takes a look."
An Endorphines GHOST Demojam (feat Quadrantid Swarm)
"So Andrew Huang and Endorphines collaborated on a unique stereo multi-effect delay/reverb/filter/distortion/compressor called GHOST. They sent me one, and here's a ponderous demo/techno jam of it as an end-of-chain finisher for a Quadrantid Swarm (which it does rather well), with a cameo from Andrew. Commence the ghostlyjams."

"Elektron's new instrument, the Syntakt, is a powerful combination of analog drum sounds, digital synthesis, and new performance features not seen on any other Elektron product. In partnership with Elektron, watch as our host Fess breaks down these features."
"In this video I perform one of my new tracks using the Elektron Syntakt and the Octatrack MK2. All the sounds in this video are from the Syntakt, I am using the Octatrack with my performance template.
"Some patterns I’ve made with Syntakt. No processing.
Things I love: The machines! The flexibility!
It can be so many things.
8 tracks of Model cycles chord machines with deeper control, 2x LFO per track, full envelopes, dual filters, p-lockable FX track. Or half a Rytm , plus new digital drum synth and bass/lead synth machines.
Or a mix between.
All with a tasty chunk of analog Heat drive, filter, and EG, but p-lockable!
There is an inverted envelope shape in the analog fx that I use as a master compressor. The drive is lovely.
I also love using some of the analog kicks with a bandpass filter for textures. Can even get kinda of vinyl pops and clicks out of these.
Can have up to 3 simultaneous analog DVCO machines."
"The brand new Elektron Syntakt is here!
I'm doing a brief overview, followed by a SID emulation rendition of Rob Hubbard's theme music for the C64 game 'The Last V8' from 1985. Then it grows into a live jam, using all the 12 digital and analog tracks of the Syntakt, including the features such as analog distortion.

12 Track Drum Computer & Synthesizer
Enter a sonic metropolis with Syntakt. Analog and Digital synthesis. Drum and melody. In full fusion.
All your sound crafting, sequencing, and performance needs are fulfilled, in an all-round music mega box that fits in your lap. Syntakt is a drum specialist, full of percussive possibilities, but its four analog and eight digital tracks can be used for melody, harmony, and bass sounds too. Experience epic sounds from the past, pulling others into existence from the future.
The streets of Syntakt are never-ending, the neon lights are never-dimming, its underground is fathomless. Discover worlds within worlds. Adore now. Explore forever.
Meet the machines There are 35 sound-generating machines to call on, covering a wide range of drum and melodic sounds. Some machines have been reimagined from Analog Rytm and Model:Cycles, with deeper sound control for the latter, while others are entirely new to the world.
For you to create and personalize your sound, we’ve made sure you’ve got a set of parameter controls tailor-made for each machine. They let you quickly tweak the nature of each type of sound, showing you just the relevant options. Comprehensive without being overwhelming. Let loose with analog or digital overdrive, depending on the tracks you’re playing with.
The graphics more than play their part too, with plenty of animated icons offering visual guidance and extra clarity on how each parameter affects the sound. The joys of tweaking shouldn’t only be for the ears after all.
Special effects Syntakt lets you route any of your synth tracks or external audio sources through the FX block. This gives you analog distortion and filtering, and a couple of LFOs to go to town with. Additionally, you can also call on Delay and Reverb as powerhouse send effects.
And all of the above effects can be sequenced with the FX track. Have them kick in at just the right moment. Add accents and dramatic changes to the selected tracks or external audio. Or use it as a master track for ducking and gating effects.
Modify the moment Wield a little extra trig craft using the four modifiers, offering four varied levels of expression. Configure the first two modifiers to give you the retrig or velocity behavior you desire, and use the other two to access custom intensities of other parameters. They’re ready for action regardless of which synth track you’re using.
And the best bit is that they don’t just give you that extra playability fun in the here and now, you can also capture the moment by recording to the sequencer.
The keys to the city Syntakt’s keyboard mode gives you a whole bunch of different scales to play with.
There are some familiar faces and some maybe a little less familiar for you to try out, helping you discover new places and taking things to another level.
Play across a single octave like on a piano keyboard. Or use fold, and have several octaves laid out in front of you.
Deep sound-shaping Syntakt comes full of filter and envelope goodness. All tracks have a Multimode filter to put to use allowing you to emphasize different parts of your sound, with the digital tracks also able to call on Parametric EQ and a Base-width filter – an additional filter giving you even more sonic control.
Choose from two amplitude envelope types to define the ideal contour of your sound. Try out the ADSR envelope – for your wicked synth lines – or the simpler AHD envelope – perfect for transient percussive sounds.
In this video resident expert Matthew Piecora (aka EZBOT) shares Cre8audio's newest modules: Capt 'n BIG-O and Mr. Phil Ter. Capt'n BIG-O is a fully analog oscillator built from the ground up to sound uniquely warm and huge. The oscillator also sports a wavefolder and a drive circuit, both of which you can route external signals into. Mr Phil Ter is a classic transistor ladder filter with a built in VCA and envelope generator. Along with these two new modules Cre8audio also released a two tier all wood rack stand for their popular Nifty Cases.

"What if your filter module also had a VCA and an envelope generator? Would a name like Mr. Phil Ter be a good name for it? Probably not right? Well, we at Cre8audio never claimed to be marketing geniuses (except for our jerk marketing person, but we rarely listen to them).
Anyway, check out Mr. Phil Ter, or 'Phil' as we affectionately call it. It's 12hp of filter, VCA, and envelope generator for all your sound manipulation needs."

"I’m proud to present to you STEREO STRIP. My next module made in collaboration with Befaco. Stereo Strip is a stereo EQ, VCA, panner, distortion, mute & line level input and/or output interface for external gear.
Stereo Strip builds upon the well trodden paths of studio channel strips expanding them for musical and creative modular use with voltage control. Simply try swapping out simple VCAs for Stereo Strip to enhance your patches with EQ and voltage controlled panning. Or get creative and check out the patches below for highly shapeable distortion hacks, mind bending stereo ring modulation, CV routing, feedback waveshaping and more."
Divkid Stereo Strip - A Channel Strip For Eurorack
video upload by Patchwerks
"In this video Matthew (aka EZBOT) shares an overview and demo of the Divkid and Befaco collaboration, Stereo Strip.
Stereo Strip takes the idea of a channel strip and makes it modular. We hope that by bringing this long-established component of the audio engineering world into the Eurorack environment and by adding CV control over its key parameters that you will find new, creative ways to use it in your patches!
It features stereo inputs and outputs for audio or CV with EQ, voltage controlled panning, stereo VCA, performable mute and input/output level switching for Eurorack or line level uses. Abusing the input level switching allows for some musical, modulate-able and highly shapeable distortion sounds too.
Stereo Strip was designed to be a creative part of a modular patch. Creating
stereo images from mono sources, shaping and modulating existing stereo
images, synthesising stereo pseudo ring modulation, sweetening FX with EQ or drastically wave shaping your oscillators, creating send FX routings with benefits or it can simply be used as a channel strip at the end of chain in a patch.

allow it to work as a stereo input or output interface for external gear with the
advantage of the VCA, panning and the EQ to shape the sound. Experiment with
bringing external gear into the Eurorack format and then shape and modulate

explore its EQ and voltage controlled panning, which are rarer additions to the
sound sculpting options for the Eurorack format.

From WMD: 'No samples, 100% digital synthesis with the ability to make realistic snare drums of all sizes, shapes, materials, and colors. Similar to Crucible, Kraken uses a network of classic synthesis blocks like delay, digital filters, and noise to create a very unique resonator.
'Crack-in' to the snare drum sound you're into most by adjusting parameters that corelate to physical drum properties such as shell type and size, head tightness, amount of overtone, and how tight and bright the snares sound.
You like snare samples? Great! Although Kraken does not use any recordings to generate sound, you can get a perfectly repeatable snare sound, similar to a sampler by using digital noise to generate the sound of the "snares".
Want your snare to sound more realistic? Try analog noise to imitate the subtle difference of a drummer hitting the snare slightly different on each hit.
Perfect Pitch... kind-of. Optional pitch shifter on the output widens the sonic palette as well as the frequency range, while imparting a unique character of it's own, reminiscent of old school samplers and pitch shifter pedals. Pitch knob and CV input take control of the pitch shifter when in this mode.
Wreck the ship with the Wreck switch and CV input. Three different distortion characters push the envelope that much further with an analog style gained up hard clipping, wavefolding, and bit depth reduction. At some shell settings, gain gets loud like running a snare mic through a distortion pedal. The wave folder sounds like over-the-top compression with lots of high frequency content,. The bit depth reduction setting lets you dial in a desired amount of "vintage" digital artifacts. Moving the switch to these different modes is only a preview. Use the Wreck CV input for the most control and variety in sound.
Kraken is begging to be sequenced. Use the Head, Rim, and Accent gate inputs to start your basic rhythm of hits, sidesticks, rimshots and accented sounds. Sequence the Velocity input with a variable CV source to bring the pattern to life and put the drummer behind the kit.'
"In this video I perform a short pattern on my WMD drum machine that I built. The purpose of this video is to show of the new WMD Kraken Snare module which I was absolutely in love with the moment I heard it.
NiftyKEYZ Makes Eurorack Polyphony Easier video upload by Patchwerks
"In this video Tom and Matthew form Patchwerks share an overview and demo of the new NiftyKeyz by Cre8audio. Demo includes a demonstration on building a 4-voice polyphonic synthesizer in eurorack format.
From Cre8audio:
'More than just a full-sized 49 key keyboard (with aftertouch), NiftyKEYZ has a whole load of space for a pile of whatever eurorack format modules you want to toss into it. All told, NiftyKEYZ has 112hp of available module space and its newly designed power supply provides 1500mA +12v, 1000mA -12v, and 1000mA +5v power. Stuff NiftyKEYZ with modules and you’ll have a franken-synth that’s only limit is the bounds of your imagination (or lack thereof).
So having 4 voices that you can assign willy nilly in your own Frankensynth is super cool, but we thought you wouldn’t want us to stop there! NiftyKEYZ also has a multi-mode arpeggiator that syncs to an external clock as well as NiftyKEYZ’s internal clock.
Speaking of clock, NiftyKEYZ can easily divide incoming clock to your heart’s content, as well as generate its own kicking pulse. Perfect as the center of your system or just being a part of it.
Pretty Mod right? Speaking of Mod, NiftyKEYZ’s modwheel can send constant voltage, allowing you to modulate like a mad person. Additionally, you can toggle the modwheel into LFO mode where now the modwheel will control the depth of clock-synced LFO with 5 fantastic user-selectable shapes.
We’ve only begun to scratch the surface. We haven’t even started to go on about the autochord, sequencing, expression I/O, velocity, and oh yea, there’s aftertouch too!!!!!'
Introducing NiftyKEYZ - Eurorack case and keyboard!
Tuesday, April 19th, 2022, Cre8audio introduced NiftyKEYZ a eurorack friendly, utility packed case with an integrated full-sized 49key synth-action MIDI controller keyboard.
NiftyKEYZ melds a utility packed eurorack format modular synthesizer case into a modern MIDI controller keyboard, enabling users to configure their own “dream synth” out of eurorack format components/modules.
Configure your keyz…
Designed to bring the fun and flexibility of the eurorack modular synthesizer format to keyboard instruments, NiftyKEYZ provides an ample canvass for users that want to get creative with synthesizer their own configurations & modular synthesis manifested in keyboard form.
Much more than a eurorack case with a MIDI controller attached to it, NiftyKEYZ sets out to redefine the idea of what a synthesizer keyboard can be.
NiftyKEYZ first and foremost offers keyboard & MIDI control over 4 CV + Gate outs. NiftyKEYZ’s MIDI implementation enables the use of each of its 4 CV + Gate outs as either a part of a fully patchable polyphonic instrument or on their own monophonically. Additionally, each voice can be split across multiple MIDI zones on the keyboard. For example, it is possible to create a 4 voice polyphonic instrument or a 3 voice instrument in part of the keyboard range, while splitting another voice into a monophonic instrument elsewhere. The possibilities just begin there.
NiftyKEYZ also has a plethora of powerful performance functions that add expressivity and flexibility. These include a multi-mode arpeggiator, multi-mode clock synced LFO, aftertouch, velocity, sustain/latch mode, internal clock, expression out, and much more. All of these performance features are tied to CV outs, providing an unprecedented amount of modulation and control possibilities. Adding dimensions of depth to instruments is easy.
NiftyKEYZ’s CV & audio capabilities don't end with its performance capabilities. Users will appreciate the integrated 2x buffered mults as well as the 2x outputs and headphone out with dedicated controls.
Beyond NiftyKEYZ’s modular synthesis capabilities, it is also a very capable USB and 5 pin Din MIDI controller and device. It can not only take midi in from computers and external MIDI devices but also send MIDI back out to control them. Use NiftyKEYZ to control software-based instruments, other MIDI instruments, and/or let it be sequenced from DAWs, MIDI controllers, and sequencers. It's all possible!
"In this live stream we use single cycle waveforms and some filter adjustments to make 303 style sounds on the Octatrack. After that we work on making some Acid House from scratch.
Patchwerks is more than a synth shop. They host local synth events in the Seattle area, share performances online, publish tutorial videos, and help promote artists [many featured here on MATRIXSYNTH]. Now they need some help on their end. The following was sent my way via a friend, via Patchwerks's news letter. You'll of course find additional details on their GoFundMe.
"WE NEED YOUR HELP
We’ve proudly watched as the community that developed around Patchwerks has grown through a shared passion for the joy and magic of electronic instruments. All of our staff feel so much gratitude when people come to our store to play, learn, and connect with each other.
We’ve been so humbled by everyone who has come through our doors – whether you’ve been a first-time synth-curious explorer who trusted us to guide you, or whether you’ve been one of our own musical heroes who has consciously decided to purchase your instruments from an independently-owned and operated business.
Unfortunately, due to economic pressures beyond our control, the community we built at Patchwerks is at risk of losing its home… and we’re reaching out to ask for your help.
If you're willing to help us survive, a donation of as little as $25 can help Patchwerks continue our operations in a healthy way.
The years 2022 and 2023 made it difficult for us to operate, and now we're at the point where we need to ask for help or cease operations. We have a strong plan to get healthy, but we can't do it without you. Please consider donating to our GoFundMe campaign today."
"Join us for Showroom Sessions, a monthly series of curated electronic music. Hear some of the region's boldest voices in ambient, experimental, dance music, and more. Proudly presented by Patchwerks with generous support from the community. This month, we host the talents of Portland-based Limanjaya and local head Sherman.
Sherman / Selector Records on Capitol Hill in Seattle.
Sherman’s been dabbling with gear since around 1997, and after many years of trying out different pieces has settled on a couple Critter & Guitari Organelles running custom patches, running through a Memory Man (w/ Hazarai, of course) delay pedal, building bizarre polyrhythms that on occasion sound good. On the spot beats intricately twist around each other, get manipulated, finagled, and fade into more intricate grooves.
Sherman has releases on Telomere Plastic, iLLikoi, Basement Sounds, and new local label Basement State.
Limanjaya:
Joshua Limanjaya Lim is a modular synthesist and producer residing in Portland, OR. He uses sample flips, glitchy beat repeats, and infectious melodies to craft his sound. Whether he is performing ambient, hiphop, or house music, the goal is always to get people moving. His latest album, UNTITLED 2023, is out now on all streaming platforms.

"In this video Tom Butcher of Patchwerks shares an overview and demo of the Waldorf M Wavetable Synth.
From Waldorf:
'With M, we are musically returning to our roots by bringing back classic Microwave and ‘modern’ Microwave II tone generation as a new-generation classic hybrid wavetable synthesizer with an analogue lowpass 24 dB/Oct VCF — SSI 2144 Improved Ladder Type — with resonance and analogue saturation feature, true stereo analogue VCA with panning option, and much more to explore in a desktop-friendly form factor featuring a wide range of unique sounds. Plentiful presets — totalling 2,048 sound programs (divided into 16 banks, each with 128 sounds) — professionally programmed by world- renowned sound designers also include all of the classic Microwave sound sets, such as MW1 Factory Sound Set, MW1 Soundpool 1-5, the fat-sounding Analogue and Bassco, as well as PPG Wave 2.3 sounds cleverly converted for the original Microwave. Moreover, it also features freshly-programmed sounds utilising M’s myriad new features — from true hard Sync (when working in its Modern Microwave II/XT mode) to the ARP (arpeggiator) and MIDI-syncable global LFO (Low Frequency Oscillator).'
"In this video Matthew Piecora (aka EZBOT ) of Patchwerks shows off the new Bleep Bloop 2000 by Tim Held and After later Audio.
Bleep Bloop 2000, or BB2k is a collaboration between Tim Held of Podular Modcast and After Later Audio. What started as a joke-module made by Tim’s friend Jenny has now actualized into real-life. What is it? Why is it? These are all questions we are still asking ourselves. All we know is we love it.
BB2k can be used as a four-voice oscillator or a quirky CV-source. It was designed to inspire experimentation and creative patching. While it appears simple at face-value, it is actually quite versatile. BB2k is able to get into glitchy rhythm generation, haunting drones and outrageous control voltage over any parameter the user wishes. Just power it on and start exploring!
"In this video Tom Butcher of Patchwerks takes us on a deep dive of the Korg700FS, a beautifully crafted mono synthesizer.
Back To The Future:
a limited edition authentic revival of the miniKORG 700.
The miniKORG 700 was KORG’s first mass-produced monophonic synthesizer released in 1973 at a time when the form of synthesizers as musical instruments had not been fully established. After a lot of experimentation the miniKORG 700 arrived bringing the world of synthesizers to a wide group of users by offering simple operations that could producing extreme changes in sound, and was championed by a strong base of admiring musicians.
The miniKORG 700FS is an authentic revival of the miniKORG 700S, (an improved version of the miniKORG 700) that was released the following year. The revised miniKORG 700FS offers added functionality such as an arpeggiator, spring reverb and aftertouch. The miniKORG 700FS is a fully-realized analog synthesizer that was developed in conjunction with the original designer, Fumio Mieda.

"Inspired by Tim Shoebridge, I built this little box featuring a Doepfer LFO and 2 SEM type filters, essentially building the filter that is in the Sequential OB-6 out of modules, then running stuff through it. The Prophet Rev2 seemed like a great choice to use with it. I Call this the 'slightly poorer man's Oberheim.' Check out my other video where I run my Peak through this same filter. Cool sounds ensue."
Novation Peak with Oberheim-Style stereo SEM filter
"Inspired by Tim Shoebridge, I built this variable SEM filter to run my Peak through, along with some other synths in the future. I think it sounds great! Thanks to Patchwerks in Seattle for helping out with the modules and case!
Modules used are two Doepfer A-106-5 SEM filters and one Doepfer A-145-1 LFO."
