Some of you might recognize the Latinsizer cover synth art from this post back in 2007. It's a cool story.

Instrument-a-day 7: Speak and Play! [phoneme keyboard]

Instrument-a-day 7: Speak and Play!

"Speak and Play! is a speech synthesizer for pianists. It has two parts: a score generator that turns written English text into musical scores, and a sample set (hurriedly constructed from my own voice) which, when used to play the scores, approximately recreates the original text.

Thanks to pianist Margaret Leng Tan for making Speak and Play! speak and play, and for coming up with the name!

Doepfer Dark Energy II

via PatchPierre.Net, via The MATRIXSYNTH Lounge

"In the Doepfer Usergroup he [Deiter Doepfer] stated that 'the Dark Energy will be discontinued as the CEM3394 chip is no longer available and the negotiations with the manufacturer (OnChip, the Curtis Electromusic successor) concerning a new productions series of the CEM3394 were not successful so far. We think about a redesign of the unit (Dark Energy II) but it will be another instrument with a different sound and features (e.g. probably a 12 dB multimode filter with lowpass, highpass, bandpass and notch (like the A-121 Multimode Filter- but i guess without CEM3320 - instead of the 24 dB lowpass).'"

Note the A-111-5 Mini Synth eurorack module version also uses the CEM3394.
