SSM Chips for Sale

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.
via these auctions

SSM2044 Resonant Lowpass filter chips

SSM2056 Voltage controlled envelope chips

SSM2045 Voltage controlled filter & VCA "Voicing System" chips

You'll also find an Electronics learning toolkit in the listings.

Regarding the SSM chips: "These were pulled from a Korg Polysix that had the main board destroyed by leaking memory backup battery... These are used in some Emu and other Korg vintage synths. Also, these are useable in many modern DIY projects that you can buy kits to built up. The choice is yours... Date stamped 8238" See Synthesis Technology's chip page for a list of chips used by various synths.

Update via Qwave in the comments: "There is no Waldorf synth with these chips." This is correct, some used CEM chips for the filter. You can see a list here. Waldorf removed from the description above.

"This is the full rev 4 version with the Digimod board and rev 4 software.

It responds to midi pitch and modulation commands from any modern midi controller so there is no need for the original VPK-5 keyboard. It can also be programmed from intuitive programs like icontrolmidi and Sound Quest.

This is the last and best version of the synth. I feel they really got it right with this version. It has every desirable feature you could possible want in a Voyetra 8. It was purchased directly from Peter Lanzilotta at Double-Take in New York in 1997 and has worked perfectly ever since. It has been used regularly and well taken care of. As you can see from the photos it is in excellent cosmetic condition. The only noticeable cosmetic issue is one bent heatsink fin. There are a few insignificant marks in the textured metal housing. The face of the unit is amazingly clean."

Pretty Eight Machine by Inverse Phase - 8-bit NIN

"This is Pretty Hate Machine, re-imagined in its entirety on eight different 8-bit systems, so I've named it "Pretty Eight Machine". Sound configurations include: SID/6581 (Commodore 64), POKEY (Atari 800), straight 2A03 (NES), AY/SCC+ (MSX+Metal Gear 2 or Snatcher cartridge), SN76489 (Sega Master System), 2A03+VRC6 (Famicom+Castlevania 3 cartridge), LR35902 (Game Boy), and OPLL (MSX-MUSIC or Japanese Sega Master System).

The album represents the culmination of so many things:
- the recent celebration of Pretty Hate Machine's anniversary
- the recent release of the remastered PHM
- my fandom and love for Nine Inch Nails
- my love of old-school computers and game systems
- a hope that Trent Reznor (who likes vintage synths, tech, and gear) and Rob Sheridan (and his pixelated avatar) will enjoy it
- pushing myself to compose for systems I've never written music on

A lot of thought, love, blood, sweat, and tears went into this album. I encourage you to explore the info links next to the track names to understand the history behind each one.

Noisebug (RSS)

"Spectralis 2 is the even more powerful successor of Radikals sophisticated Hybrid Synthesizer. With up to 2 GB sample memory and tons of new features Radikal raises the bar again for our competition. Never stop the sequencer engine again with our fully redesigned sequencer engine that allows for on the fly realtime sequencing, recording of MIDI controllers and overdubbing. Quick Sound Selection for every part - your most favorite sounds are just one fingertip away. Transpose your patterns and step sequences with the attached keyboard and control the Spectralis 2 parameters via MIDI from your computer. There is only one thing, we left untouched in our new design - the sound engine. Still the warmest and richest sound out there with the power of a modular synthesizer in a box.

The Hybrid Synth

The Spectralis 2 hybrid synth, fueled by the latest DSP- and true analog technology, delivers maximum tonal capabilities and leads you into a radical new world of sounds full of life and animation. The Spectralis 2’ oscillator section takes sound design to new extremes. The 4 oscillators offer continuously variable waveshapes plus time linearity modulation, FM, PM, oscillator synchronisation, bit reduction and independent pitch and volume envelopes. The self resonating filters, a 4 pole lowpass and a 2 pole multimode filter with LP, HP, BP and notch outputs, use two highly improved true analog circuit designs to overcome the restrictions of modelling based synths. The way players can interact with the destinc-tive user interface makes the Spectralis 2 hybrid synthesizer a killer live instrument with unbeatable richness and stunning flexibility. The synthesis engine takes advantage of a sophisticated step sequencing system - 32 independent parameter control lines with up to 192 steps let you explore an universe of previously unheard rhythmic effects and atmospheric textures. Punchy high resolution envelopes, are the cutting edge of todays synthesizer technology. They are the perfect weapon for the creation of floor pounding kicks, state of the art sequencer staccatos and numerous percussion effects.

"This signal processor converts any audio signal input into a synthesizer control signal. Put together a guitar or vocal synthesizer instantly by connecting the MS-03 between your guitar or mike and any synthesizer with CV and trigger inputs. No alterations are needed; just by plugging into the MS-03 and adjusting the controls, your instrument can actually 'play' the synthesizer. When performing live, connect a foot switch for portamento, pitch hold, and other useful effects. From user manual..."Thank you for choosing the Korg MS-03. To ensure optimum performance and long-term trouble-free operation, please read this manual carefully This unit produces VCO CV (control voltage) signals and trigger (gate) signals so that you can use an electric guitar, microphone, or other transducer output (from an acoustic instrument, for example) to "play" a synthesizer. A variety of remote control input jacks let you use foot switches for more freedom and flexibility during live performance. With this amazing unit you can instantly put together your own guitar synthesizer, vocal synthesizer, etc., by simple connection with any synthesizer equipped with VCO CV IN and TRIGGER (Gate) IN input jacks."

Ship Of Nine Lives

"Synthetic Sound Labs 1520 Segwencer IV module and company.
An SSL1260 Tap Tempo LFO was used as clock and control voltage to the depth input on the Segwencer.
A Q960 picked up the clock for pitch sequence to four vco's which were an SSL1200 compact, a dotcom Q106, an Oakley4 and an SSL/Ian Fritz Double Dekka vco.
These were sent through various filters (except for the DDVCO which is dry) then to the Segwencer IV module.
I ran the SSL1520 in PEAK mode with the width at 90% and depth attenuator at 30%.
Each vca output from the SSL1520 went to a different DSP device then on to a final mixer (Q113).
The MIX OUT signal of the 1520 was suppressed to avoid cancellation.

Each of the "voices" were intentionally modified by ring modulation, FM and soft sync to give each a unique character separate from the next. This helped to distinguish them as the Segwencer faded between them. The tuning was C, F, G# & B on each corresponding vco. The Q960 acted as a transpose for the sweeping chord action."

sixtrak vs. mopho

YouTube Published on Jun 15, 2012 by condit79

"attack of the dave smith synthesizers. Plus a little electribe ER-1 drum sounds. All running to my mixer, and a touch of my new favorite delay, the strymon brigadier. It adds a bit of warbly modulation to the delays.

This is all pretty thin and buzzy on the six trak as I was trying to really play the 4 pole filter. I hadn't really seen any videos of people pushing a six trak to the limits of possibilities and so i made this. The arpeggiator is all DSI mopho with the cleaner tone. Even with the single knob editing on the six trak, it's pretty easy to tweak tones as you go. It's like the good ol days before cell phones when you had to memorize phone numbers. Plus theres a chart right there if you forget what you're doing. For me, the tone that I'm getting out of this makes it worth it. I actually had a tetra and traded it for this and am not one bit sorry."

Trogotronic 333 vs Serge Creature

YouTube Published on Jun 15, 2012 by DJjondent

"This is primarily a test of the Trogotronic M Series 333 Eurorack module.
It's an envelope follower with an 9 "step" event sequencer.

An envelope follower takes an audio input and converts it into a control voltage.
This control voltage will rise and fall with the overall volume of the input signal.
The louder the input, the bigger the output of the envelope follower.

The trog works pretty well I think. I used the snazzy fx (Arduino based) ArdCore to supply the tune. The audio signals from the Ardcore weren't loud enough on their own to
trigger the 333 so I boosted the volume with a Circuit Abbey Gozinta

The setting for attack - uppermost right dial on the trog is pretty important to
get it to trigger well. If set too far clockwise the 333 may not respond.

Thanks to Matt from RhythmActive for the Trog 333, the ArdCore and the Gozinta

"We are using a 4 Tones Patch with Ring Modulation, but not using all Tones at the same time. Tone A is Wave 195: Loop 4, Tone B is Wave 10: Pulse Mod, Tone C is Wave 144: Syn Vox 2, Tone D is Wave 3: FAT Saw.

In the first part, only Tone B and D can be heard, then we are using iControlMIDI to fade-in Tone A TVA Level which makes the Ring Modulation effect kicks in.
In the second part, we are using iControlMIDI to fade-out Tone A TVA Level and Unmute Tone C.

In the third part, we are using iControlMIDI to change Tone C pitch one semitone at a time, creating a glissando effect.
In the fourth and last part, we are using iControlMIDI to fade-in and fade-out Tone A TVA Level.

There is a very short software delay, software chorus and a high-end hardware reverb."
