ARP 2600 Semi Modular Synthesizer Grey Meanie Tonus Version

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"if you know about the ARP 2600 you also probably know about the very rare early Tonus versions called "grey meanie" and "blue marvin".

The ARP 2600 in this auction is a "grey meanie" version from 1971.

This is one of the rarest analog synthesizers and nearly impossible to find.

After some internet research i found out that only around 15 to 30 units of this version were made and you can imagine how many of these are still around in fully working and original condition.

Maybe less than 5 to 10 worldwide ? I don't know but i think it is impossible to find another one in this condition.

The ARP 2600 in this auction is in very good original shape.

All faders are working fine and all plastic caps are on the slider shafts.

No missing screws, plastic parts etc.

All modules inside are original ARP. The filter is the legendary early 4012 version.

No modifications or repairs.

Original reverbtank (big version) is in the unit and it is sounding very very good. The best spring reverb i have heard.

The unit is very stabile in tuning, it is fully calibrated and sounds amazing.

The keyboard is the exact matching keyboard and it is duophone !!!

This was probably a special ARP custom version cause the early Tonus versions did not come with factory duophone keyboard.

The keyboard is working very good without any problems."

DX5 playing "Shake the Disease" (Martin Gore demo)

Published on Nov 5, 2012 by DX5

"Shake the Disease (Martin Gore demo) cover. (Martin's Original version here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cWeVSKn9sCs ) [below]

I noticed he recorded it mainly with a Yamaha DX7. In fact, he used six cartridge preset sounds (that I switched live). So I decided to recreate it. None of the backtrack sounds were recorded with MIDI or other clock resources.

All sounds (*unless stated): Yamaha DX7.
Bassline synth: Roland Promars MRS-2
Drumbox: Boss DR55 (sampled)

Backtrack recorded on a Revox B77 MkII.

Composed by Martin L. Gore"

Nuclear Musicians: Radioactive Orchestra at TEDxGöteborg

Published on Nov 2, 2012 by TEDxTalks

The audio demo starts after the 11:00 mark.

"Radioactive orchestra is a cross-boundary collaboration of nuclear physicists, a DJ and one media artist. The project wishes to inspire young people to learn about the natural sciences, but it also has an artistic aim to find new musically interesting patterns. By giving every radioactive isotop its own sound based on scientific algorithms they turn nuclear science into music, hence making a world available to us that our senses can not otherwise percieve."

Elektron Trinity Messaround

"Me having a mess-about on my three machines. Live jam, making it up as I go along.

Monomachine providing 3 synth sounds, Machinedrum doing the beats and the Octatrack resampling.

Only using one track from the 8T, 3 from the MnM and 4 from the MD.

It is more of a "my first vid" than anything special but comments welcome, better stuff to come."

Multivox RHYTHM ACE FR6M Vintage Analog Drum Machine

via this auction

"RARE vintage analog Multivox RHYTHM ACE drum machine model FR6M. There were two versions of this drum machine. One was considered a studio/home model and was in a finished wood cabinet (with no handle on top), and the other was the portable/gigging model, housed in a black Tolex-covered wood cabinet (with a handle mounted on top). This is the latter model, which I personally prefer and believe to be more rare (as I have seen far fewer of them)!

According to ads I've seen (some for sale on eBay actually!), I'm fairly certain that this is a pre-1970 model. Multivox was a rather mysterious American company that "borrowed" many of Roland's (a Japanese company) early synthesizers, drum machines, and other pro audio gear. Interestingly enough, this model (FR6M) is almost identical to the Roland TR 66, save for a few preset names/rhythms and a few of the faceplate graphics. Look up a Roland TR66 online- you'll see the striking resemblance!!! However, I cannot tell you whether this unit was manufactured in the USA or Japan. As far as I know, no one is certain whether Multivox simply rebadged Japanese Roland-made gear (in this case, the Roland TR66), or whether they copied the designs and schematics and manufactured them in the US..."

"A very powerful synthesizer module, classy and thoroughly professional. This is the rack version of the VZ-1 iPD synthesizer. Casio perfected the PD synthesis found in the CZ series, and the result offers impressive sounds. The character is very aggressive, digital, industrial, and powerful - similar to Yamaha's FM synthesis, but with a different, more aggressive character. Starting from a simple, pure sine wave (or different waveform), you can build very complex sounds. The on-board waveforms are among the purest I've ever heard on a synth. Very good cosmetic and working order. Comes with AC cord and RC-100 ROM card and Operation Manual."
