YouTube via DaveSmithInstruments — May 21, 2010 — "The Mopho Keyboard is a compact and affordable—but powerful—monophonic analog synthesizer. The voice architecture is similar to a single voice of the Prophet '08, but with a couple of twists to distinguish it from its award-winning sibling. We have added two sub-octave generators—one per oscillator—for additional girth and crushing basses. It also has an audio input that lets you process external audio and mix Mopho's own audio output back in pre-filter for feedback effects that can range from subtle distortion to extreme skronk. It features the same semi-weighted keyboard action as the Prophet." Demo by the man himself, Dave Smith.

YouTube via ThePurityControl — May 21, 2010 — "Blade Runner gets the Vocoder Bollocks treatment, this time using a manikin Memotron as the synth, and swapping between male and female choir sounds. While it sounds a little more organic than the earlier offerings, it seems that the type/quality of the synth sound is less critical than ordinarily - whatever you put in, it comes out sounding overtly synthesised O_o"
YouTube via neutron7 — May 21, 2010 — "The bass synth has been rebuilt on a circuit board and modular panel. For this video, it was multitrack recorded from a MIDI sequencer. All synth sounds you hear are from the arduino synth. Using synthesizers.com Q107 filter and Q109 envelope generator. One synth track has a delay, the rest are untreated. Drums and percussion are mostly canned loops. The tune is just a simple thing i did for this demo."
gorillabox.bigcartel.com Some notes on the case: There are legs on the inside of the lid allowing it to be used as a side table for other gear - guitar pedals, laptop, whatever fits. The inside is wired with a new Tiptop Audio power system which emits essentially no heat. The regulator is the size of an iPhone and the power supply is like a lacie mini brick style external power supply. A bit of trivia: Surachai of TRASH_AUDIO is in possession of the first one. Update: shots are now up here.

YouTube via suitandtieguy — May 21, 2010 — Jonathan Snipes of Captain Ahab (http://captain-ahab.com) is such a remarkably enthusiastic STG Soundlabs Time Modules user that when he emailed me and said "I hear you're working on a clock divider module that runs off the STG Sync Bus ... please let me know when i can have it" I couldn't help but just go ahead and mail him my own prototype. (don't worry, i built another and yes he paid for it)
Jonathan was so happy to be able to extract all sorts of different rhythmic clocks driven by his TR-808 that he made this video showing off the Time Divider driving all sorts of aspects of his modular synthesiser and gave it to me to post up here in my U-Toob account.
we've still got a couple of firmware sniggles to deal with, but here is the 97 percent operational Time Divider being used in the composition of a track which Donald Crunk declared "hot as shit" when he heard it, and I'm inclined to agree with him.
I'm not entirely sure what the Time Divider is doing here, but I'm hearing a lot of rhythmic intervals happneing against the TR-808 that simply would not be possible with anything other than the Time Divider or a rack full of extremly hard-to-find Garfield Mini-Docs.
bassline: two q106s into stg post lawsuit filter - pitch is from voltage ministore, rhythm is an envelope to the filter cutoff triggered by dotted 8ths from the time divider
bell-like delayed nonsense q106 into stg sea devils filter into time machine, pitch from voltage ministore
sonar ping sound stg time divider sending 8ths to motm 730, with vc division modulated by slow lfo, so the ping happens essentially randomly, but always on 8th notes
bitcrushed percussive hihat sound stg time divider retriggering a long envelope controlling the clock rate of a cgs digital noise module every half note, with a vca controlled by another envelope @ 16ths (also stg time divider)
all the melodic sounds use a modcan-b quantizer
the vocoder is just an motm 310 into a roland svc-350""

"Separate synth section with cutoff resonance, basic LFO and envelope modulation. Typical adsr envelepoe.
String section which can be merged with the synth and bass sections.
Lush 70's Chorus with 3 settings of low medium and very spacy high, ext in for use with the chorus. With the Chorus switched off, you get a very typical early synth saw wave, which is also polyphonic. i've had everything from drums to a dx7 going thru this just for that nice chorus, it does cutoff the low end a little but if used as an effect send and blended with the original signal, its not a prob... Vibrato with depth, rate and delay (which is actually the LFO)
Gate/trig out. inputs for a sustain pedal or to control the VCF. as well as the ext in."

"A realtime-arrangement-demo of my modded Pearl DRX-1 drumsynth. Normally this excellent drumsynth must be painfully programmed by 4 buttons on the front and had 8 storagememories. i rejected this digital circuitry and added 40 pots, one for each of the 8 parameters of the 5 voices. In contrast to the simmons-things the voices are nearly identical: Pitch, Decay, Attack (adds a short enveloped noise, not just a click), Filter (slightly resonant), Bend (just piuuu) and Overtone (adds a second detuned oscillator) and Level. Sequencing comes from mc-909, the triggersignals come from my modded CMU-800 which holds (besides its modded analog drumvoices) a 16channel- midi to trigger interface. The CMU also runs the Pearl Syncussion in the background. Other synths used: D-550, Fantom and V-Synth. Just Pearl and Roland-Gear :) It is not a perfect song/arrangement but i guess you like it more than just listening to the drx alone."

MOOG MUSIC ANNOUNCES PURCHASE OF NEW HEADQUARTERS IN ASHEVILLE, N.C. "For Release May 21, 2010. Asheville, NC – Moog Music, in conjunction with the City of Asheville and the Economic Development Coalition for Asheville Buncombe County, is pleased to announce a $2.5 million investment in a new downtown Asheville company headquarters. On May 18, 2010, Moog Music finalized the purchase of four vacant, 1920 era buildings 160-170 Broadway St.; the Northern Gateway into downtown Asheville.
The Broadway site was chosen by Moog Music for its close proximity to the downtown music venues and river arts district. “This location is ideal for Moog and our employees; we will bring commerce, economic vitality and livability to this once neglected entrance to the city,” said Michael Adams, President of Moog Music. “Our plans include an extensive renovation of the structure that will transform the façade from an eyesore to a landmark that embodies Moog’s spirit of innovation, one that our company and our community can be proud of.”
The location will house the company’s 35 employees engaged in worldwide sales and marketing, research and development, and manufacturing operations. Adams continued, “The ambience of the building was the primary selection criteria. I was looking for a building that had wood floors, old brick, and wide open spaces. Creativity drives Moog and this old building, once transformed, will inspire our entire team to continue this mission.”
“This redevelopment by Moog brings the Broadway corridor one step closer to the vision long advocated by city and community planners,” said City of Asheville Mayor, Terry Bellamy. “The City is excited to welcome an employer like Moog whose international reputation for excellence, innovation and creativity will complement our vibrant downtown community.” Moog Music has been selected by the City to receive $50,000 in Community Development Block Grant funds in support of the project. As part of this expansion and expected company growth, Moog anticipates adding an additional 10 – 15 employees over the next three years.
“The County applauds Moog Music on this exciting expansion and its continued contributions to our economy and workforce. The move will not only strengthen our advanced manufacturing economy but enhance Asheville’s reputation as a premier music and arts destination.” said David Gantt, Chair of the Buncombe County Commission. Moog Music will begin renovations on the Broadway site in the coming weeks with the use of local architect, Keith Hargrove, and local contractor, H&M Constructors. Work should be completed in late 2010.

via this auction "In April the Bob Moog Foundation issued a call for art inspired by the legacy of Bob Moog. Five artists donated original pieces for us to auction off on eBay as a part of our spring fundraiser. The auctions will end on Thursday May 27 at 10pm eastern time, during our live event at the Orange Peel in Asheville, NC. Attendees at the event will be able to bid on the items via computer stations donated by City Mac, and the eBay format will allow bidders from around the world to participate.
This auction is for a piece by Asheville artist Dustin Spagnola.
The piece is very large and is a striking portrait of Bob Moog. Bob's daughter Michelle said that when she saw the piece for the first time she was speechless, and that it felt like her dad was in the room with her.
It measures about 70 inches tall by 48 inches wide. The painting is on a handmade wood canvas and is signed and dated by the artist on the back. See the photo with the office chair for a sense of the scale. Because of the large size we will need to get a shipping quote from a freight company based on your location. If you are the winning bidder, please wait for an invoice from us before paying for the item. You will be charged actual shipping costs.
Dustin's artist statement for his current series: "This current work is inspired by the contemporary urban landscape. The images reference the texture, depth, and color of structures in decay and the visual language of graffiti. The walls of the world are often seen, but frequently overlooked. They are beautiful, bold, sprawling structures embedded with history. The landscape of urbanity is punctuated by the organic marks left from water and weather, poster art and spray paint. These images reference the imperfect and rough texture of concrete and use these characteristics to create fragments of worn and crumbling walls.
While the imagery is built upon a definite design aesthetic, the spontaneous application of pigment contributes to the overall dynamics of each composition. This process pushes the rhythm of each piece towards a visual cadence. The interplay between the color fields and the spray enamel struggling for dominance creates tension and movement. The finished paintings are artifacts of this intuitive process."
The Bob Moog Foundation was created to carry Bob’s legacy forward by continuing to touch people’s lives through electronic music, just as Bob did. This is no small task and we have put a lot of intention in how Best to honor his work and impact.
The mission of the Bob Moog Foundation is to educate and inspire children and adults through the power and possibilities of electronic music and through the intersection of music, science and innovation.
We aim to carry out this mission through our three main projects:
* the Moogseum * Student Outreach Project - Focusing on teaching kids science through music * Bob Moog Archive Initiative
You can read more about these projects and our other activities on our website at www.moogfoundation.org"
