R.A.Moog 901 oscillator tuning demo

Published on May 9, 2014 CZRider01·10 videos

"A short demo of the R.A.Moog 901 oscillators. This is a 1969 revision. 901 oscillators built before 1968 used a different revision. These have the CA3019 diode array. Tuning is more than 6 octaves and all three track very well. Seems to be a lot of myths about the tuning ability of the old Moog 901's."

"2 cv inputs, 1 audio input and 4 vcf outs - Hi pass, Low pass, Band pass and notch

Great sounding filter, does not quite reach self oscillation but will oscillate when the Hi pass out is connected to the input, it will then track 1v per octave and can be used as a sine oscillator and can vary in sound depending on how much gain is applied. Also try plugging the band pass into 1 of the cv inputs.. Very interesting to say the least !

It is based on old circuits from the classic Oberhiem VSF and Ms20, and does sound vintage with a lovely squelchy resonance ! Crank the gain and it goes into mild distortion, very juicy indeed

It also has a VCA built in, with 3 different configurations- pre vcf- post vcf or off as to be a stand alone VCF

In VCA mode even without using the filter, ie, fully open and no res its a great vca with loads of gain

A very good sounding filter indeed, more info here"

Critter & Guitari Melody Mill Pattern Record

Published on May 9, 2014 bigcitymusic·334 videos

"Here is a demonstration of pattern recording with the Critter and Guitari Melody Mill.

1. Hold the bottom right button on the Melody Mill (labeled 'Seq') until the LED turns red. This indicates that the module is armed for recording.

2. Play a melody. After you are finished, press the 'Seq' button again. The LED will turn green indicating that the pattern you've recorded is now playing back.

All of the Melody Mill's modes and parameters remain adjustable while in recording or playback mode.

Sound source is the Cwejman D-LFO enveloped by the Mutable Instruments Tides."

Playing the Sqeech Synthesizer for iPad

Published on May 9, 2014 sqeech·5 videos

"Playing music with the Sqeech synthesizer for iPad. Sqeech is now available on the AppStore."

iTunes: Sqeech - jtrue.com

"Fingers drip music and this app is the paper. Made for musicians looking for a responsive musical instrument with a huge range of sound, Sqeech delivers perfect audio that's both thick and nimble. It's an essential arrow in your music quiver.

This App is a multi-touch frequency synthesizer rendering eight cd-quality bendable audio waveform channels at any range on demand. The keyboard and output range are completely customizable with three powerful modes of sound: spectrum gives you a full oscillator; chromatic mode using half steps; or choose a major key.

Designed for flow, you can join in to any live acoustic set or electronic machination instantly. Sqeech can deliver deep bass or high-end electronic rain on one fret board. This tool was made for the hand to groove.

Responds to eight simultaneous touches by the user. A vibrato is achieved with a side to side pulsing of the fingers. Each touch has a separate volume channel so you get a rich live sound. Additionally two propellor filters (Sun & Moon) give additional firefly squeeching effects with full live control over pitch and speed from a finger.

Here's a few more features:

Key Range Bar: The range bar let's you instantly select a pitch threshold for the fretboard. You can change as you play. A smaller range makes more room for your fingers to add vibrato to your sound.

Pitch Slider: You can bend all sounds currently playing by using the slider bar. Releasing the slider from the high right side gives you a slow dramatic pitch fall you can add expressions to as it falls automatically.

Sun Propellor: This propeller always affects your solo finger only. Raising the sun on the screen causes the propellors pitch to go higher or lower. Left-to-right affects the propellors speed in real time giving you an powerful solo button you and squeech out a melody with.

Moon Propellor: The moon affects everything the sun does not. This gives you a more rhythmic effect since it broadcasts through the remaining fingers. It's speed and pitch are controlling similar to the sun. Double-click to turn on pitch snapping and the propellor will conform to the nearest half step. This allows you to form any triad sequence and play it with one finger setting the root note. Both propellors really open Sqeech up as an expressive electronic vocal."

Doepfer A-101-3 modular vactrol phase filter

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"module a-101-3 is a 12 stage phase shifter with vactrols as phase shifting elements. vactrols are known for their smooth sound behaviour.

in contrast to other phaser designs the a-101-3 is much more flexible and offering a lot of new features not available from other phasers on the market (as far as we know, please tell us if we are wrong). the main difference is that our design offers access to each of the 12 input and output stages leading to a lot of new filters that cannot be obtained in other ways. especially the free patchable feedback loops (yes, not only one feedback loop is possible) between each of the 12 stages, the separate phase shift control for the stages 1-6 and 7-12, and the 2 polarizers intended to control the feedback loops lead to completely new filter types

the module sketch and the frequency response curves below will help to explain the outstanding functions of the module:

internally the module is made of 2 independent 6 stage phase shifters (1-6 reps. 7-12) with separate audio inputs (with attenuators), audio outputs (with mix control), and phase shift control units. the phase shift control units feature both manual and voltage controlled phase shifting (e.g. from a lfo, adsr, random voltage, theremin cv, foot controller cv ...). for each sub-module a phase shift display (led) is available. the led shows the illumination state of the 6 vactrols of the sub-module in question as it is connected in series with the internal vactrol leds.

each of the 12 phase shift states is equipped with an audio output socket and feedback input socket to obtain full flexibility to create a multitude of different filters. the audio input signal and the output signals of stage 6 resp. stage 12 are mixed with 2 manual controls to obtain effects at two audio outputs (for normal phase shifting effect this is 50% input signal and 50% phase shifted signal). the two submodules are internally connected via normalized sockets so that two 6 stage phase shifters can be obtained without external patches. audio output of stage 6 is normalized to audio input of stage 7 and cv input 1-6 is normalized to cv input 7-12. but due to the open structure of the module even other stages than stage 6 and stage 12 can be used as outputs to generate different sounds (simply patch the desired stage output to the normalized mix input socket)."
