AIRA Start – AIRA MODULAR (a short tutorial)

Published on Jul 16, 2015 RolandChannel

"AIRA gear is intuitive and easy to learn. It's part of what makes it so musically inspiring. But it also has a deep bag of tricks, and these can take time to discover and master. Whether you're curious about what AIRA can do, or just wondering where to begin, the AIRA Start videos provide a strong base for further exploration.

The AIRA SYSTEM-1m Semi-Modular Synthesizer is a powerful standalone instrument - the external inputs and the array of CV/Gate connections allow it to be re-patched and to interface with other modular synthesizer systems.

This AIRA Start video for the SYSTEM-1m is divided into three chapters:

• OVERVIEW: A close look at the oscillators, filters, amplifier, envelopes, effects and the available PLUG-OUTs
• SYNC: Learn how to connect to the AIRA MX-1 Mix Performer and TB-3 sequencer via MIDI, and how to create a patch using the control voltage jacks to connect to analog and Eurorack modular synthesizers.
• SETUP: Install the SYSTEM-1 as a 19” rack-mount device, into a Eurorack modular setup or use as a tabletop device"

"BeatStep Pro Controls WMD/SSF Monolith via CV/Gate/Velocity.

Each of two sequencers controlling a separate voice in the Monolith. I am taking mono outputs from each voice into two separate Strymon pedals.
One voice goes to the DIG and the other to the BigSky.

Each of these stereo outputs goes into a Mackie mixer panned hard right and left for each respective channel.

The patch makes use of every module that comes with the Monolith.
One voice is a combination of 4 waveforms into the blender module which then goes to the Pole-Zero and on the ADSRVCA.

The 2nd voice is also a combination of 4 waveform outputs (One of the waveforms goes to the Ultrafold) that are summed with the SPO whose output goes to the Switch in the Tool-Box and this output goes to the Amplitude which receives CV from the 2nd sequence gate into the 2nd ADSRVCA."

"MIDIBrute - A universal application to configure Arturia Mini and Microbrute synthesizers.

Stuttgart - July 16, 2015 - Available for iPhone and iPad today, MIDIBrute is a universal iOS replacement for Arturias 'MiniBrute Connection' and 'MicroBrute Connection' applications which are only available for Mac and windows. MIDIbrute allows to configure the devices in a more convenient and mobile way. This includes features like Bend Range, Hold feature, Midi Channels, Step Size and so on. MIDIBrute also allows to send a MIDI Clock signal for easy sync with other devices.

Overview:
MIDIBrute is a companion app for the Arturia Mini and MicroBrute analog synthesizers which allows full control over all of the device's software only features. Previously a desktop PC was required to change any of the synthesizers internal settings, with MIDIBrute all of this can now be accomplished using either an iPhone or iPad. MIDIBrute is perfect if you're using a mobile setup only and try to avoid using a dedicated Mac or PC.

Features:
* Direct access to all internal synthersizer settings
* Universal Application
* Send separate MIDI Clock signal to the synthesizer in order to synchronise the clock in case no sync mechanism is in place.

The configuration set depends on the connected synthesizer:

MicroBrute:
Keyboard Parameters: Note Priority and Velocity Response
Sequencer Control: Hold, Sequence Retrigger, Next Sequence, Step on, step divider
Midi Channel Select: Transmit Channel, Receive Channel
Module Parameters: LFO Key Retrigger, Envelope Legato Mode, Bend Range, Gate Length, Clock Sync

MiniBrute:
Audio Input: Audio Gate Threshold
Module Parameters: LFO Key Retrigger, Envelope Legato Mode, Appregiator Hold
Midi Channel Select: Transmit Channel, Receive Channel
Keyboard Parameters: Note Priority, Velocity Response, Aftertouch Response

Requirements:
* Apple Camera Adapter
* Mini or MicroBrute
* Currently the MiniBrute SE and MicroBrute SE are not supported. But we are working on it.

Pricing and Availability:
MIDIBrute (Universal App) is available now for $1.99 in the US. Apple AppStore and priced similarly in other regions around the world."

Zaquencer Version 1.03 Update Adds Pendulum Mode & Sysex Import/Export

"Zaquencer Version 1.03 has been released!

This update adds the “pendulum” direction mode and adds the ability to import/export your patterns and global settings as SysEx files.

This SysEx feature can e.g. be used for:
- backup of patterns/settings
- switching of global settings for different setups
 (live or studio)
- mirroring patterns to a second Zaquencer as a backup (for live)
- exchange of patterns with collaborators

For the SysEx feature the free & open source utility app Zaquencer Preset Manager has been created. So far this allows validating Zaquencer SysEx files after export with more functionality to come.

If you already own the Zaquencer, you´ll find the download of the 1.03 full version in your account for free.
The Demo and Manual have also been updated.

If you would like to obtain a license, please visit the ZAQ Audio Shop."

A little history on the synth via the seller: "I have owned this since 2009 when I bought it from a collector in Kingston upon Thames. I used it for several years in a band until we all went our separate ways due to geographical reasons (also, we weren't very good). It has been sitting in my spare room unused for the last few years so I have decided to sell it on to someone who will make use of the amazing sound it has to offer.

Even though it has a few scratches and marks here and there, it is fully working. All keys, effects and knobs are work perfectly and are fully functional. It has a lovely warm tone to the preset sounds (these can be seen in one of the photographs), as well as a phase shifter, attack and sustain, and tone effects. I bought this without the lid, I imagine it would be hard to source one, but not impossible - I haven't looked as I didn't have a need for it.

This Korg was introduced in 1976 and used by the genius that is, Jean-Michell Jarre, as well as Tangerine Dream and Hawkwind. Also, I used it in a band - not worth mentioning."

Synthwerks PGM-4x4 Programmer/Sequencer/Controller Eurorack Synthesizer Module

via this auction

"The PGM-4X4 is a multi-functional module that performs two different tasks. The main function is that of a programmer. Four columns of four separate control voltages can be individually chosen via the manual push-button or external gate inputs under each column. There is also an internal bus that allows direct normalized connection to the 4 gate outs of a separateFSR-4 (FSR-4 or FSR-4C family). The CV output range is selectable via internal jumpers to be either 0V to +5V or 0V to +10V (approximately) so that some rows can be set to be better suited for controlling more voltage sensitive destinations (such as the pitch of VCOs).

When all four push-buttons are held for a couple of seconds, the PGM-4X4 converts into sequencer mode. In this mode the four column gate inputs and manual pushbuttons switch to sequencer duty. Their functions are shown on the front panel in parenthesis. These are the classic Clock in, Reset in, Run/Stop, and Manual Step controls found on most sequencers.

The PGM-4X4 can be chained to another PGM-4X4 to create a 4×8 programmer or a 4×8 sequencer. PGM-4x4s can also be stacked to add as many row outs as you have room in your cabinets, allowing such things as a 4 column by 12 row programmer or a 8 step by 8 row (or more) sequencer."

BONSAI BEAT!!

-------

Side note, not to detract from the videos: THOR!!! reminded me of how much I'm hoping Apple comes out with a larger iPad Pro this year. I have an original iPad that I use mainly with to edit some of my hardware synths that lack a decent interface, and for light sequencing. I have a Mini Retina for email when away from the laptop and for synths apps. It's nice and gets the job done, but I find I'm missing the larger interface when it comes to editing. I considered an iPad Air, but decided to hold off to see if I prefer the rumored larger "Pro" model.

Scarlet Architect Mini Euro Tour Indiegogo Campaign

Published on Jul 13, 2015 refuge6

You can find their Indiegogo campaign here. Synth spotting, and some specific gear talk from member Ron Ruthersford further below.

Video description: "2015 has been a year of miracles for Scarlet Architect. The long awaited release of their LP, Eternal Return, the bands first release in over 33 years, has been announced by Genetic Music: September 25th, 2015 is the big day!

Now the band has been invited by Zurich's BalconyTV to appear on the program as well as perform in another Zurich venue and several additional opportunities in a number of European cities have been made available to the band as well.

The band needs financial assistance to make the trip. Please help S.A. realize this career long dream by making a contribution to their Indiegogo Campaign."

The following is some additional info via Scarlet Architect's Ron Ruthersford, who has been known to visit MATRIXSYNTH. His Roland TR-808 was listed here. Some of you might remember Ron from previous PNW synth meets.

"In 1982, Scarlet Architect produced a 4-song EP and pressed 1000 copies of it. That EP garnered some recognition in synth pop circles, particularly in Europe, most notably for the songs 'Rose Grey' and 'Falls Away.' 'Rose Grey' was on the dance club charts in 1982 for ten consecutive weeks. For my fellow gearheads, my two bandmates and I recorded the entire EP in one session in a 24-track studio outside of Chicago using only my trusty TR-808, a Casio MT-30, a Casio VL-Tone (through an MXR flanger), and an SCI Pro-One (and of course our voices). It was great fun and a very fond memory.

We are re-releasing the four songs from that EP and seven additional songs from that period that were also professionally recorded but were never before released. The re-release, called Eternal Return, is coming out in September via Genetic Music (www.geneticmusic.de) and will be available on vinyl and CD and as downloads. The vinyl edition will only contain nine songs, while the CD will contain all eleven songs. All songs will also be available from the usual download sources.

Additionally, we have been contacted to play on Balcony TV in Zurich, Switzerland, and have also now been contacted by a few other places/people in Europe to potentially play a few more gigs if we can make it over there. In an attempt to do this, my bandmate has put together an Indiegogo campaign to try to raise funds for our 'mini tour.' The Indiegogo campaign can be found here. A great deal more information can be obtained from the video on the Indiegogo site. If we can achieve our funding goal, we might also be doing gigs in Germany and the UK.

For additional info about the band, we can be found at www.scarletarchitect.net and on Facebook. There are also several songs available for perusal on YouTube."

A few are embedded below.

Patch notes would be difficult. As i was just grabbing and patching away. the modulation is deep. But the basics:
DPO main voice, Benjolin background noise (both being pitch sequenced differently)
Asteroid BDv4 kick, Jupiter Storm snare.
All being subtley process by Clouds, Echophon, Erbe-Verb.
With Circadian Rhythm driving and being driven by PM Bender, and the Ultra Random Analog playing lots of roles."
