WMD/SSF Multi Mode Filter 1/2: sound characteristics (LMS EE)

Published on Nov 10, 2019 Learning Modular

"The MMF is a two-pole multimode filter that packs a lot of features into a very small (4hp) package. This first movie focuses on the sound of the MMF, and in particular compares to the four pole transistor ladder filter in the Moog Mother-32 for reference – the difference is more than just the filter slope and amount of frequencies beyond the cutoff that are cut:

00:00 introduction
00:25 overview of features
00:58 sound comparison to Mother-32
06:16 bandpass mode06:55 high pass mode
07:18 frequency modulating the cutoff
08:03 frequency modulating the resonance

There is a second movie that explore the Ping input of the MMF; that is available in the expanded version of my Eurorack Expansion course (https://learningmodular.com/register/...), as well as to most of my Patreon supporters (https://www.patreon.com/LearningModular)."

Published on Apr 7, 2019 pawwakill

"A dub techno recording using Intellijel Shapeshifter.

Very straightforward stuff here. Shapeshifter both shapes modulated by Xaoc Batumi and Zadar. Zadar also modulates the Dual Borg filter. 909 CH through WMD/SSF MMF high pass filter, 808 open hat and Basimilus Iteritas Alter for the percussion. Eventide Space for the reverb and Strymon Timeline for the delay."

WMD/SSF ULTRAFOLD Eurorack SOUND DEMO no talking!

Published on Dec 5, 2018 WMDevices

"THE WMD/SSF Ultrafold is an all analog wavefolding module that was made in a collaboration between two eurorack modular synthesizer companies WMD and Steady State Fate (SSF).

In this video we run a Sine Wave from the WMD PDO (phase displacement oscillator) into the Ultrafold and experiment with sounds along the way. Wave folding is a great way to create low-pass filter like sounds but starting with a sine wave and creating harmonics with modulation and wave mixing instead of using a filter to cut out frequencies from a harmonically rich wave.

A second sine wave from the PDO is inserted into Ultrafold's FDBK input, giving the module a secondary source for the wavefolders feedback path. When the feedback CV is positive this waveform is used. When this waveform's phase is modulated it will create even more interesting and dynamically rich harmonics. In this patch we are simply using a sine wave oscillator, the ultrafold wave folder, a VCA/Envelope Combo and a trigger sequencer to drive the Envelope.

The drums that come in later in the video are the HexInverter BD9 which is a kick drum, WMD Fracture and Chimera drum modules which take care of the electronic clap and tambourine sounds respectively.

The WMD/SSF Ultrafold is available now worldwide and comes included with the WMD/SSF Monolith system which is a euorack system integrated into a high-quality 37 Key keyboard case with integrated power."

WMD/Steady State Fate Spectrum VCO/LFO function demo (no talking)

Published on Dec 4, 2018 DreamsOfWires

"Purely functional demo of some of the WMD/SSF Spectrum precesion analog VCO's features. No musical composition this time, but some people asked me about the sound of the module, which I hadn't used much until now, so I thought I'd create a video for people to judge for themselves. The Spectrum is packed full of features, much of which isn't covered in this video, but hopefully it'll be useful to somebody.
Turn on subtitles for a step-by-step explanation.

Use these links to skip the parts that may not be of interest to you:
0:00 Melodic example pattern with reverb
2:17 Dry waveform examples
7:36 Sub octave function
9:19 Use as an LFO
12:03 FM sound examples

Gear used: Frequency Central Waverunner LFO, AJH DH-ADSR, 2HP Dual VCA, Mutable Instruments Tides, Antimatter Sub Ring (as mixer), iPad with AUM and EOS2, iConnectAUDIO4+ interface, Minibrute 2 (sequencer).

flatchouse - a 120BPM acid house patch for eurorack synthesizer.

Published on Aug 18, 2017 Luke Killen

"This is a flatulent acid house beat. The acid is utilising a WMD/SSF Spectrum which is being modulated in a few ways by the SSF Ultra-Random Analogue filtered through a Epoch Modular Twin peaks VCF. Sequenced by Rene. I really wanted to give the Acid line a Dry breathy sound rather than a classic wet acid style. The noise from the Ultra Random Analogue helps give that character. The twin beaks also has some of the Ultra-Random Analogue output from Channel A at a high rate to mix with the Spectrum."

Rossum Evolution Filter vs Moog Sub Phatty - A comparison by WMD

Published on Nov 15, 2016 William Mathewson

"In this video, Alex conducts a comparison of the two ladder filters, which when filtering a single saw wave sounds almost identical until it comes to the Q compensation and "species" knobs that are unique to the Evolution.

Alex is a huge fan of the classic Moog sound and was looking to integrate a similar voice into his live performance rig which includes a WMD/SSF Monolith Case. He brought in his Sub Phatty for a fun, semi-clinical comparison and decided to make quick a video so he could share the results with you.

Love Moog bass but want even more phatness with some resonant filtering? This might be the one for you :)

Both synths are recorded directly into the Tascam DR40's external inputs."

Ninstrument TRISPECTRUM Prototype Eurorack Module Based on Three WMD/SSF Spectrum OSCs

via Ninstrument where you'll find additional pics and details.

"I mentioned the TRISPECTRUM in the last video I published below. The start of that voyage was getting and using just one Spectrum OSC from WMD & SSF. Once I had a chance to really put that OSC thru its paces, I have to admit I really fell in love with it. Those guys nailed it as far as I was concerned. The more I used it, I thought, “this would be even better if I could stack three of them together”. Having the ability to sync all three and individually pull each one in and out of sync would be cool. Waveform switching like on the Mini Moog and mutes and attenuators made sense from a performance aspect as well.

The Ideas came hard and fast. Before you knew it I had my first prototype. Pictured here."

"Welcome to the second video from Synth City. This one is a patch demonstration of the new modules from WMD/SSF, the MMF (Multimode Filter) and the DPLR Delay. Instead of a grand tour of features, Wesley puts the modules into practice, detailing each patch as he goes along.

This video also features the Snazzy FX Ardcore running a quantizer sketch by Gregor McGish, find it here: https://github.com/eclectics/ardcore

These patches also utilize the Harvestman Piston Honda mkI, WMD/SSF Amplitude, Make Noise Wiard Wogglebug, MN Mult, and MN Maths."

A Little Play With ADM15 Spectre...

Published on Dec 16, 2015 Audio Damage, Inc.

"Just having a bit of fun with Spectre. It is in the lower-left-hand corner of the Euro case. In the first half of the video, I'm manually triggering it. In the second, I just mult the snare trigger. It is in Infinite Mode in this demonstration, and I switch back and forth between bin shift and pitch shift.

Kick and snare are 2 x ADM12 Neuron + ADM07 Mad Hatter, driven by ADM06 Sequencer 1. The delay I occasionally play with (directly to the right of Spectre, with the same panel config) is an alpha version of a clocked delay we are working on. Synth stuff is from WMD/SSF set."
