"The way things were" - early '90s Techno Rave with TR-909, W-30, Alpha Juno-2

Published on Sep 6, 2015 SynthMania

"I felt nostalgic tonight and fired up the trusty old W-30... for the younger viewers, here's a breakdown of how a typical Techno / Rave piece of the early '90s would have come to light. Questions are welcome, this is the sound of my youth and I love making this music and talking about the gear and techniques of the day."

Korg MS-20 Mini Meltdown

Published on Sep 6, 2015 gstormelectro

"All audio and video content by G-Storm Electro c.2015

Follow-up of the MS-20 mini bass excursion demo w/ some SQ-1 sequencer madness, modulation weirdness, and a patch that will make you wonder if the mini is having a meltdown. With a special appearance from a Boss DR-110 drum machine, the Accent Trigger Out is going to the SQ-1 Sync In. Again I have framed the shots so hopefully you can see all the settings and patch cable connections.

All sound taken raw from the mixer, no additional effects were used in capturing the audio."

WERSI CX1 WERSIMATIC Analog Groove Box 1982 | HD DEMO

Published on Sep 6, 2015 AnalogAudio1

"(c) 2015 by AnalogAudio1

In the beginning of the video I added a little reverb from a Dynacord DRP20 on the drums, all other effects came from the CX1 itself.

Wersi WERSI MATIC CX1 is a programmable rhythm machine / accompaniment from Germany.

The CX1 has preset rhythms and is also programmable. It has analog sound generation for the drums and the accompaniment. Tape interface for storing own patterns onto tape - like on analog synths as Korg Polysix or Roland Juno-60. The drums sound a bit like the Korg KR-55.

The CX1 was also included in Wersi organs of the day."

JP-8 & OB-Xa

Published on Sep 5, 2015 SynthMania

"A quick comparison using some typical 'JP-8 vs OB-Xa' patches."

Update: You might note some sounds on the OB-Xa seem to come in and out on each channel. Not sure what's going on there. It's subtle but noticeable for certain patches while on the Jupiter-8 each channel is pretty consistent throughout.

Arp Solus Vintage Synth

via this auction

"Specs: The Solus is a 2 VCO, monophonic analog synthesizer with a 3-octave, 37-note (C-C) keyboard. It, like most ARP synths, features mostly sliders instead of knobs. It was built into a flight-case, with all of its inputs and outputs on the inside of the case lid.
Both VCO's feature a slider selecting variable waveforms from sawtooth to pulse, as well as a slider controlling pulse-width and the amount of pulse-width modulation. VCO2 is syncable to VCO1 and can be detuned. The pulse-width can be modulated by the LFO or the ADSR. The VCF (four-pole, lowpass filter) has controls for frequency, resonance, as well as three sliders controlling modulation amount from the keyboard, the LFO, and the ADSR. It also features a digital ring-modulator and a pitch-bend knob. The back panel features interfaces (in and out) for CV, Gate, and Trig. Also in the top panel is a footpedal input and External Audio input, as well as high and low outputs."

SNAZZY FX: drone power tools .tidal/ DRONEBANK/ wow/chaos bro

Published on Sep 6, 2015 snazelle

"Though often used as a synth voice , the tidal wave was originally designed for multi-Output Drone processing , sweeps, swirling sounds and comb filtering. And it was made to work perfectly with all the other snazzy fx gear.

In this video all the sounds are being generated by the DRONEBANK osc #5 output( not the mix out ) and then into the tidal wave for wave folding , filtering , vc mixing , feedback , etc

the tidal wave is creating multiple outs for mixing. Vc mix out , Vcf out. And a/r gen into vca out. ( for random chopping of sounds based on threshold knob)

Also key is the snazzy fx wow and flutter which lends its hand to morphing signals."
