"Dave Smith Instruments Begins Shipping Prophet Rev2 Desktop Module

Desktop Version of Popular 16-Voice Poly Synth Now Available

San Francisco, CA—October 25, 2017—Dave Smith Instruments today began shipping a desktop module version of their popular Prophet Rev2 16-voice analog synthesizer. It boasts a sound engine identical to the keyboard version, with two DCOs and a sub oscillator per voice, Curtis filters, two types of sequencers, digital effects, and other enhancements designed to make it even more powerful that its predecessor, the now-retired Prophet ’08.

As Dave Smith explained: “The Prophet Rev2 has been embraced by the music community in a very big way. Apart from its awesome sound and 16-voice polyphony, a big part of the Rev2’s appeal is its ease of use. So we made sure the desktop version retained the same front panel controls as the keyboard. Whichever you choose, the Rev2 is a powerful creative tool and a real musical workhorse.”

The essence of the Prophet Rev2’s sound comes from two DCOs per voice with four waveshapes (sawtooth, triangle, sawtooth + triangle, and pulse), a sub-octave generator, and a 2/4 pole low-pass, resonant Curtis filter per voice. These are the same filters used not only in the Prophet ’08, but also in many classic instruments of the ’70s and ’80s. A new feature unique to the Prophet Rev2 is waveshape modulation. You can vary the “pulse width” of any of the four waveforms by manually dialing in a desired waveshape width or by using an LFO or other modulation source for continuously shifting timbre.

An effects section provides reverb, delays (standard and BBD), chorus, phase shifter, ring modulation, and distortion. In stacked or split voice mode, you can apply a different effect to each layer. Effects parameters can be modulated through the mod matrix, which is twice as extensive as its predecessor, with 8 individual slots and many more sources/destinations.

The new polyphonic step sequencer allows up to 64 steps and up to 6 notes per step. A different sequence can be created for each layer when working in stacked or split voice mode. The sequencer also functions as a modulation source, allowing you to create up to 4 different 16-step sequences for complex modulation. Sequences allow ties and rests, and can sync to an external MIDI clock. The arpeggiator features note repeats, re-latching, and can be synced to external MIDI clock, as well. Other improvements include an integrated power supply, USB support, and a crisp OLED display.

The 16-voice Prophet Rev2 desktop module is available now with a US MAP of $1,799. An 8-voice version is available for $1,299 US MAP. The 8-voice version is user expandable to 16 voices with the optional Rev2 Expander Kit for $599 US MAP."

"A quick jam fooling around with Zyklus Improvisor (Max) Software which is a clone (+ more) of the hardware Zyklus MPS-1.

Basically it's a midi-looper/sequencer which can transpose your loops/sequences in various scales/chords on the fly. I've used the System 8 to play and record all the sequences (A minor) into Zyklus and I use the red keyboard (UMA25s) for playing the chords/scales I want the sequences to play in on the fly.. Fun stuff folks!!

Octatrack is used for the beats
A4, S8, S1, vPed is used for playing the sequences of Zyklus
S8 is used for playing solo
Deluge is used for recording the jam."

Two groundbreaking new synthesizers and three new instrument collections highlight Reason’s biggest content update of all time

STOCKHOLM, October 25, 2017 – Propellerhead Software today announced that Reason 10 is now available via the Propellerhead website and authorized resellers worldwide. Unlock a wealth of inspiring sounds and breathe new energy into your tracks with two massive new synthesizers – the Europa Shapeshifting Synthesizer and the Grain Sample Manipulator. Dive deep with three new organic instrument devices, a premium acoustic piano, a creative modulation device, and 3 GB of cutting-edge drum loops and samples. Open up a new world of exciting creative possibilities with Reason’s biggest content upgrade ever.

“Reason 10 builds on our award-winning software with the best sounding instruments we’ve ever created,” said Mattias Häggström Gerdt, Propellerhead Product Manager. “Europa and Grain continue our tradition of stunning yet intuitive synthesizers with more than a few tricks up their sleeves. Our users have been asking for powerful new devices that enable them to explore new sounds, and we delivered with Reason 10. Now that it’s here, we’re very excited to see what music they will create.”

Europa is a dynamically generated wavetable synthesizer that offers extreme flexibility and power. Apply a wide range of modulation to the waveform itself, add advanced spectral filtering and harmonics processing – even draw custom waveforms. And despite its deep synthesis powers, you’ll find it surprisingly easy to use, thanks to an intuitive interface and workflow.

Grain opens up the world of granular synthesis for Reason users with immense sonic power and an inviting interface. Drop any sample into Grain and explore endless sonic variations using an extensive collection of algorithms, ultra-flexible modulation, routing and effects.

Reason 10 also includes three new sampled instrument collections created in collaboration with Soundiron. Klang Tuned Percussion includes 10 high-quality sampled melodic percussion instruments that are perfect for modern pop and electronica. Pangea World Instruments includes 11 world instruments that add a unique flavor to any genre of music. Humana Vocal Ensemble is a collection of choirs and solo vocals, perfect for adding a human touch to film scores, soundtracks and more.

Reason 10 also includes Propellerhead’s acclaimed Radical Piano instrument and Synchronous Effect Modulator – previously only available as Rack Extensions via the Propellerhead Shop. Radical Piano is an authentic, flexible and bendable piano instrument that provides sounds for every situation and every song. And with Synchronous, you can bring your music to life with quick sidechain effects – and even draw your own LFO curves to control filter, delay, reverb, distortion and level.

In addition, Reason 10 comes with over 3 GB of new sample content in Reason Drum Supply and Reason Loop Supply. These ReFills include a wealth of new drum samples and loops – from vintage drum machines to the sounds of the future.

Here is the demo of its evil side. Mostly all three gains are at maximum, which is around + 20 dB for each section. And frequency of each band is varied for different flavors. 303, electric guitar, drums and syths sounds are shown in the demo.
Virtual electric guitars are used for the demo and Gitar Rig for cabinet simulator."

"This is something my Moog Voyager can't do to this extent ring mod Sample hold madness. I get jiggy with it at 3:31. Anyway this thing has some snappy envelopes I plain on doing a full review. There are a lot of cv mixing option's on this thing, both oscillators are modulated at different depth's. I could add even more modulation to this patch that would be stupid though. One must learn to exhibit modulation control at times."
