This is only a fraction of what was going on that afternoon in six different rooms at Microsoft. Originally I was only going to PLAY SHOOT RECORD my BTM MOD SYNTH LIVE SET, but over the day ended up shooting pix and few short vid clips and edited it all together as a gift to the people that were there or wanted to be there.

"Vintage drum module from 1986, the SDS 1000 is a 5 drum kit comprising kick, snare, hi tom, med tom & low tom, triggering 10 complete kits (5 factory & 5 programmable presets). The toms have a unique 'second skin' to match the sound & response of a double headed acoustic drum. All voices have individual volume & input trigger sensitivity via pots on the front, plus sounds can be varied via filter, pitch, bend, second skin, decay, noise & click via pots also on the front. The unit features an LED display to aid programming & to the rear there are individual drum trigger inputs, individual voice outputs, stereo/mono out, midi in/out & footswitch input. The rare footswitch is included in this auction. "Roland's new MC-707 is a powerful groovebox. The MC-707 features 8 tracks that can each be full drum kits, a synthesizer or looper. The MC-707 can put together full tracks with its powerful sequencing and effects. To test out the sampler we decided to sample some of our own videos and a few others.
The MC-707 comes with 80 drum kits including the classic Roland TR machines. The synth engine has 64 voice polyphony with four oscillators per voice that feature both analog style waveforms and PCM samples.
"A semi-self-generating patch using a Moog Mother 32 and an Ultra Random Analog module sent through a Eventide Space hall reverb and an Eventide Timefactor on Reverse setting.
Finally, I have a dedicated random source! It's a bit of a game-changer when your music is based on random modulation... For this patch I went a bit overboard and simply connected every output of the URA to something on the M32, and 045//Extraterrestrials is the result - not quite melodic, not quite atonal, but something in between.
PATCH NOTES:
The sounds present in this patch are the M32 square wave providing tuned notes, clicks from a sub-audio LFO patched into the Ext Audio input, and odd tones from the filter resonance being driven into self-oscillation.
The M32 is triggered by random gates, which also clock one of the URA's sample & hold circuits. The filter cutoff and resonance, mix between the oscillator and a square LFO, LFO rate, and some Eventide Space parameters are all randomly modulated (the Space modulated directly from the URA). The M32 envelope is a very short pluck, and the LFO triangle wave is patched to the VCA CV input, providing wavering, uncertain volume modulation.
One channel of Maths is providing a constant voltage offset for one of the inputs of the URA, but the effect is subtle at best, and so this isn't necessary - the patch can be recreated without any noticeable difference by omitting it.

So...here we go: This is the most simple, basic, no-frills Krell patch on the Serge system that I can devise. Hopefully it will serve as a catalyst for your creativity and imagination to take it deeper, morph it, modulate it and incorporate it with other modules, patches and sonic equations.

"Since the original battery is dead by now (it is soldered in, and so I could not easily replace it myself), the User patches from 000 to 199 have no patches loaded. You would have to replace the CR2032 battery to get the User patch locations to hold any patches you copy or load to that range after the unit is powered off. This should be done by an experienced service technician, or a capable hobbyist. I don't recommend doing this yourself if you are not experienced with electronic board soldering, since you don't want to take a chance on damaging the circuits. There are some internet postings showing a recommended installation of a new battery holder, one that will allow easy changes of the battery in the future.
The ROM chip in this unit is the last Oberheim factory version 1.11. Hobbyists will probably want to pull that chip and replace it with the 1.16 or 1.20 versions that you can find for sale here on Reverb. But the updates in these new ROM versions are primarily for improving the unit's real-time response to certain external sysex change requests. They do not affect the basic operation of the unit during live playing, as far as I know."
"This is played by making contact with the two plates. Pitch is controlled by the resistance of the player?s skin. The stronger the touch, the less resistance and higher the pitch. The lighter the touch, the more resistance and lower the pitch.
Use the included alligator clip cable to experiment with attaching any conductive material to the contact plates. Metals, liquids, graphite pencil or other people work well.
There is also a filter and volume control. It has a mono 1/4? output and is powered by either an included 9V battery or 9V DC Center-Negative Power supply."
"Thanks to the attenuverter and the inverter function the C112 can be used to create a voltage controlled panning effect.
Patch description
For this patch we use a triangle wave from a LFO patched to the attenuverter input. The output is internally connected to the inverter input. So now we have two triangle waves,one inverted and one normal.
Each triangle wave is patched to the CV input of a VCA. Both VCAs have the same audio input.One of the VCAs is our L output and the other the R output. For a real panning effect, not just jumping from L to R, we need to add a bit of initial gain to the VCAs.
The amount of panning can be controlled with the attenuverter level.
In this patch we are using another LFO to control the frequency of the first LFO to create an interesting panning effect."

The Korg DSS-1 sampling synthesizer, released in 1986 is a truly impressive piece of kit.
Sampling, Waveforms you can draw yourself and harmonic waveform synthesis (additive synthesis) can all be used as basis for oscillators.
It has a fully analog audio path, resonant VCF, dedicated 6-stage envelopes for both the VCF and VCA, and 2 sine wave LFOs, oscillator sync, and an advanced unison mode.
On top of that you have two digital delays that can be used for a variety of effects, either in serial or parallel,
For a fraction of the price the DSS-1 rivaled the Fairlight system.
Unfortunatley, the operating system and workflow is arcane and borderline insanity.
I've tried to condens this tutorial down to something usable and understandable so you can use this gem with your own sounds and not just use it as a rompler.
For demonstration and tutorial purposes, the samples and sounds I make to show you how it operates are not meant to sound very good. Just saying.. ;-) "

The MC-101 is sequencing the Behringer MS-101 (Bass sound)
and the MAM MB33 Retro on tracks 3 & 4.
Midi clock goes to the Arturia Keystep which is sequencing the Waldorf Streichfett (phased string sound) which is passed through a Boss PH-3 Phase Shifter.
MC-101 tracks 1 & 2 are the units internal sound engine...
The Minilogue can be a lot of things, but when I first laid hands on it I was immediately drawn to the sounds I was finding that were a little less than pristine. Sounds that were a little dirty, a little dark, sometimes crunchy, noisy or wobbly - but the character of the synth always shone through and made me feel warm and fuzzy as I explored them.
