The MS 2600 NG ARP 2600 DIY Project by Matthias Beese

The MS2600NG is a german Synthesizer DIY Project by Matthias Beese. There is only a small bunch of a few DIY MS2600NG on the Market. The MS2600NG is a Enhanced Full Size Clone on the legendary ARP 2600 Synthesizer. For more details of this Synthesizer go to the MS2600NG Webpage.

"I show you the great MS2600NG Synth in action, without talking !!!. #synthgearvlog #ms2600ng #arp26000"

Additional details in German: https://diy-mms.jimdo.com/ms-2600-ng-arp-clone/, Googligoo here

This project combines two projects in one synthesizer.

1.) The replica of an ARP2600 based on the original service documents.
2.) The expansion of the classic by a few functions and modules.

The MS 2600 NG is therefore the result of the two points mentioned above.

(The "NG" in the name stands for "NextGeneration" and the new features)

I started the project in 12/2016. The development and construction time was approximately 1 3⁄4 years.

The upper part is almost 1: 1 the original. I added a GATE function to the envelope follower. VCO1 and VCO2 have a SYNC input and the frequency-determining transistors of all VCOs are given small heaters so that they are kept at a constant temperature (frequency stability). VCO3 has also received a TRI and SINE output, as well as a PWM input. The MIXER has been expanded by one channel (VCA2).

In the lower part there are the following new groups (from LEFT to RIGHT):
Midi IN (2 * GATE + 4 * CV)
Sequencer with quantizer
ARSR and AD2
DUAL-8Bit Wavetable VCO
MultiMode VCF
VCA 2

The loudspeakers are realized as 'BOX in CASE', ie they get a closed housing with bass reflex opening in the lower part.

There are 5 basic boards, primarily with mech. Components are equipped (slider, sockets, switches, LEDs, buttons etc.), but also contain a few passive components and uncritical circuit parts. This makes the board size easy to handle and you don't have to unscrew everything when servicing.

The boards are mounted on the front panel with the many jack sockets (approx. 130 pieces).

The individual circuits are housed on the 16 module boards, which are then plugged onto the motherboard."

Work in Progress: Spielwerk Sequencer for Norns/Crow

Published on Feb 5, 2020 S. B. Arweiler S. B. Arweiler

"A work in progress: Spielwerk is a generative sequencer for Monome Norns/Crow with (optional) support for Arc. It generates two CVs from two Euclidean rhythms and four independent clocks.

In this video the two CVs (left and right knob of Arc) control two Mannequins Mangrove, one of the Euclidean rhythms triggers Just Friends envelopes that control various parameters on the Mangroves and Three Sisters. Everything is processed with Bastl Thyme and EHX Cathedral.

There's still a lot to on my todo list, so it might be a while until release.

Development happens here: https://github.com/sarweiler/spielwerk"

"This is one of the most well thought out synths I've ever used and a real stroke of genius. The knobby interface and hands on sequencer make it endlessly fun to coax raw, aggressive and acidic tones out of this box. For me, the 777 is the best monophonic synth with step-sequencer ever released. One of the few machines that delivers what it promises. The possibilities, the look and feel, and last but not least...the sound is absolute stunning. You can go from a conservative 303 sound to a mutation of acid sound, that needs a new definition. Every underground Acid/Techno producer should have one 777. The 777 is worth every cent.

Korg Ds10, Volca Sample, Volca Keys PO-14 Sub - Ds-303 Acid - Song-a-day Feb 5th

Published on Feb 5, 2020 ChrisLody

"For today's song-a-day I once again turned to acid (:D) but with a bit of a twist. Playing the part of a tb-303 in this video is Korg Ds10 running on a Nintendo Ds. Who knew Ds10 could make such a convincing 303 sound? Helped along by a dose of Zoom 1201 reverb it sounds the part to me! The Volca Keys plays a long 8 bar pad-ish sound using it's 'Fifth' setting, the Volca Sample is loaded up with 808 and 909 samples and the Pocket Operator Sub plays a deep bass line alongside everything. Reckon this one could do with being made into something longer, and turn those dam claps down!

Sync is running from the Ds to the Volcas and then to the Pocket Operator btw. It's the only way I can get it all to sync up. I'm also using the Sample as I 2 channel device with the kick panned left and all the other drums right so they can have reverb and not the kick."

0-C0AST AMBIENT::ERR0R MEM

Published on Feb 4, 2020 C Nich0lls

"Ambient track based on a recording of a performance with the Makenoise 0-Coast synthesizer. The original recording is the first upload I made for this channel. Looking back it seemed quite different to the subsequent videos, so I decided to re-work it a bit.

The original version is here: https://youtu.be/8R5UGs0963U

Hope you enjoy this updated take. Likes and comments are always welcome.

The original, single take still forms the core, but it is accompanied by 2 additional 'tracked' versions that pitched up to create a kind of shimmer effect. They fade in over the duration of the recording.

There are 2 additional tracks added, a low pedal note and some washes of noise. Both of these were also recorded from the 0-Coast.

The effects treatment is quite different from the original. The core recording was recorded through the Red Panda Particle pedal. For this recording the tracks are processed trough a LoFi delay effect from the Strymon Timeline and a Nonlinear reverb from the Strymon BigSky. The 'shimmer' effect that emerges over the recoding is actually 2 tracked versions of the recording that are pitched up before being processed by the effects. A number of glitches are evident from the Ableton algorithm."

Wet Vs Dry - Effects & Sound Character w/ Doepfer Dark Energy I

Published on Feb 5, 2020 DreamsOfWires

"Just a simple A/B comparison of a simple noise patch on the Doepfer Dark Energy I both with and without effects (delay & reverb). Each moment of the recording is repeated - dry, then wet. I used this particular patch/sound because I think it represents the kind of sounds and character that I like most about this particular instrument, and like the dry sound just as much. It was my first analog synth a decade ago, and it illustrated to me the difference in richness and depth of tone compared to the software synths I'd used before it.

Anyway, this is just a mid-week moment that I thought might be interesting or useful to someone out there, not just regarding the synth used, but also the use of effects, as many people ask me about the effects I use, or how much they contribute to the sound, etc.

The delay is Dubstation2, reverb is EOS2, both by Audio Damage, both recorded within AUM on an iPad using an old Focusrite 18i6. The Dark Energy patch is just the 2 lfo's modulating the filter frequency, one via a patch cable, and then just the usual tweaking of pots.

TRANSFORM YOUR SOUND

Revolutionary Spectral Shifting Plugin:

FRQ Shift is an ultra clean sounding, artefact free, dual frequency shifter engine. Capable of everything from subtle modulation and stereo enhancement to more extreme atonal effects perfect for building tension and creating atmospheric backdrops. Frequency shifting shifts all the component frequencies of a sound by an equal amount. This means that if your input is harmonic, it will destroy the harmonic relationship of the components in the sound resulting in a more unnatural sound.

Price: $89 introductory price until 18/Feb/2020 ($129 thereafter).

"This was Roland's first step back into modular world, and though its not the most fully featured semi-modular synth in terms of patch points, it does offer up a lot of sonic potential including the ability to bring sounds of their Plug-out synths based on some of their classics into your modular setup. System-1m works great as a standalone desktop module, rack mounted (ears included), or in a eurorack system."

Live Techno Eurorack Modular Synthesizer | Sworn64

Published on Feb 5, 2020 sworn64

"Live Eurorack Modular Techno Synthesizer | Sworn64

This is my first patch with the WMD Crater kick drum module and MSCL compressor. The bassline is going through the MSCL with the kick in the sidechain input. The bass is a Roland 512 oscillator through a System 80 860 Filter (The smaller version of the JOVE filter). Intellijel Dual ADSR is controlling the filter and the VCA output which is an Intellijel Quad VCA. Snare Drum is the Hexinverter Mutant Snare. The lead synth is the Noise Engineering Manis Iteritas with various voltages sources mixed t an Intellijel Scales quantizer to sequence pitch. The voltage sources are a clocked Mutable Instruments Marbles, a stepped random from a Make Noise Wogglebug (also clocked) and a cycling Make Noise Maths. These are all being mixed through an Intellijel Triatt. Noise Engineering Lapsus Os is used to perform the range of pitch to the Manis Iteritas via the Wogglebug’s External input. Wintermodular Eloquencer is the main sequencer and I’m using the EME expander for performance of kick and snare drum fills and mutes. The whole mix is sent through a WMD Overseer filter. The Intellijel Plannar is used to perform the filter cutoff as well as mix in some white noise from the Steady State Fate Quantum Rainbow. Mix is through a WMD Performance mixer with the Halls of Valhalla reverb on the Tip Top Audio Z-DSP and a Make Noise Mimeophon for Delay effects. The bassline is also going through the 4ms DLD for some stereo delay. The atmospheric background synth is the Mutable Instruments Plaits through a Strymon Engineering Magneto. Xaoc Devices Batumi is modulating lots of things. I am tweaking some random samples from the 4ms STS that have a really short loop on them to create some interesting sound effects here and there.

The LED lightbar is a Strange Electronic Lightstorm, a eurorack module that controls the LED bar via incoming CV. Thanks to Strange Electronic for providing the prototype arms to hold the lightbar above my modular so it lights up all of the gear. It looks awesome!"
