Vintage ARP Axxe synthesizer keyboard

via this auction

"The one oscillator's saw and pulse outputs can be mixed with the white noise source. The oscillator may be modulated by LFO (square and/or sine), random sample & hold, and ADSR. Pulse width adjustable from 5% to 50% and may be modulated by LFO and ADSR. 4 pole voltage controlled filter with self-oscillating capabilities. Filter may be modulated by keyboard control voltage, random sample & hold, LFO and ADSR. Normal keyboard triggering mode, as well as keyboard repeat and auto repeat. Pitch bend control, portamento/glide, and transposable up and down 2 octaves. 37 note keyboard.

The case has some holes that have been plugged from a previous MIDI mod which has been removed. The trigger in/out jacks are taped off inside the case (the holes they normally mount in were enlarged by the previous owner). Sliders were replaced and oscillator tuned to get everything working, but otherwise the synth wasn't serviced or restored in order to keep the price affordable. The keys all work, but the bushings are old and the contacts are dirty, so sometimes a key may double trigger. Some wear and marks on the panel, as shown."

Jamuary #28 - Together we rock (ft. VCVRack, Eurorack,Soundplane)

video by TheTechnobear

"Today was all about trying to bring everything together....

The idea is simple, using the power of the computer (my little mac mini m1) to use the wonderful vcvrack, yet have it behave like an instrument with full hands on control.

Ive used vcvrack a bit in the past, but never really tried to integrate it fully..
the basics of the patch are simple.
- a couple of voices using instruo and vult oscillators and filters
- pianoteq (vst host) using a vult filter
- aalto (vst host)
- a mixer with a couple of sends to 2 vahalla vst reverbs (vst host)
- audio recorder to record the output
- midi to cv, to connect to hardware

the the bit thats Ive not done before... using midi mapping to map a controller.

on the hardware side.
the aim here was about hands on control...

the pyramid is used as the main sequencer and clock

the hermod is really the brains.
its sending the cv to the eurorack, midi to vcvrack, and its also taking cv/gate from the USTA to sequence vcvrack voices.

usta is a nice hands-on sequencer, quite different from the pyramid, more like an analog sequencer.

electra one [additional posts], lovely controller with encoders and is touch screen too - its easy to customise, so here I created a quick patch that controls vcvrack, things like levels, fx, and filters. once setup, I use midi map in vcvrack to assign controls.

the soiundplane again comes into play as the main playing surface :)

its was quite a lot of setup, but really just because it was the first time... so I had to decide how it was best to connect things, what role they would play.

its the first time my little mac mini struggle a little bit.
in fairness, it was fine whilst I was audio glitches at all.

but of course, as soon as I turned on the camera issues started appearing :)
the issue is I also had to run OBS to record the webcam, and quicktime to do a screen capture of vcvrack... that seem to just take it a bit over the top.

... which was. a bit frustrating, as I was getting tired by this point, and just wanted to finish... but I got there.

I might give it another go tommorow, now its all setup - so I can focus more on the music side , rather than cables and midi ;)

hope you enjoy

tech note: I should say VCVRack, plugins , OBS are all Rosetta , so I think we can expect them to improve. also honestly, Id have not even tried this on my old mac - its also possible the issue was related to usb traffic, given I have audio interface, webcam, monitor, soundplane, hermod, electra one ... alll sending a lot of data over usb ;)"

Steve's Eminent/Arp Solinas (by synthpro)

video by synthpro

"Hey Guys,

This is a look at the latest two projects I have been working on for Steve.
Once of these units were extremely rusty so sandblasted it and repainted the interface parts. There was also a broken key stop and had been replaced with a stop that was too short to adjust key height as well as would not hold a key bushing. I had a donor polymoog key stop I installed and was able to align key and install all new key bushings.

Bottom unit got a good electronic servicing as well as a keyboard rebuild with new key bushings but cosmetically, it will just be getting a good cleaning.

Here is a link for those that may have missed the video going over the guts:" [posted here]

Track: Shelter (feat. Xavier Radix) - Synthwave on Akai MPC, Motor Synth, Peak, EX5

video by

"Here's a #synthwave track done on the Akai MPC One, #motorsynth and Novation PEAK. Sidechaining! Gated drums! Tons of synths! Wicked 80s hair metal guitar solo and phatt riffs! Wub wub bass! Jan Hammer-inspired synth sequences! It's all in here. :-)

Guitar by Xavier Radix (see link below). Recorded, mixed and mastered on Zoom R24 #dawless. This is the MPC One in song mode controlling the EX5, PEAK and Motor Synth via MIDI. The song is made up from 14 patterns on the MPC one, which I merged into one long pattern and added the guitar and the vocal track to. Basically, all you need to do then is to press play in song mode and capture the audio output on a recording device (if you're using only MPC, you can also render the output to a WAV file internally). For the sake of this video, I adjusted filter settings and played some notes "live". :-)

MPC One is doing all the heavy lifting here, Motor Synth is doing the "filtered choir" sound in the second verse. EX5 is doing the "rain pad" in the 2nd verse. PEAK is doing the arpeggiated sequencer line. I don't know which effects Xavier had on his guitar, but it sounds pretty awesome.

Shared System Tutorials | Part 31 | The Strega Patch

video by Cinematic Laboratory

"I was very impressed when I saw the new MakeNoise Strega tabletop synth with Alessandro Cortini on the SonicState channel. I used some footage without permission, but this is an educational video, I am not monetizing my stuff and it's not harming anyone's revenue. Not even posting on FB. I just wanted to dive in, recreate that awesome sound on the Shared System and share it in this series. It's really cool to figure out how an instrument like the Strega gets from an idea to a real instrument and I bet the Shared has been a source of inspiration for many of its parts. I can't help hearing a lot of makenoise modules combined in this great new tabletop and I was intrigued by the fact that it used a clear Echophon pitched delay many people seem to abandon and replace with Mimeophon. As for Strega, I think it sounds like a 'old, new, borrowed, blue' marriage thing. It has the amazing sound of an STO, 0-Coast and DPO but there's seems no technology involved that had to be developed from scratch. It's a cool way to clean out some old Echophon chips and give them a second life. Have fun and let's hope the Strega (Witch) will hit the stores soon!"

Electronic (toothbrush) Music | Moog Grandmother, Sonicare Toothbrush

Note the above is a playlist with additional music videos by Chris Hunt. Many feature Synthstrom Audible's Deluge.

"After years of daily practice, I'm pleased to present my first piece with the Sonicare electric toothbrush. In normal 'cleaning mode' it operates at a perfect C4. In this piece, I have toggled the toothbrush to 'whitening mode' to move that up to an E4. This is accompanied by some layers on the Moog Grandmother."

Sinevibes Droplet v2 - Raindrop Delay

video by Sinevibes

"Droplet is a raindrop delay effect developed by Sinevibes. Available as AU+VST plugin for Mac. Product page:"

"Droplet is a delay modeling engine for creating “raindrop delay” effects. It is based on 32 stereo delay lines connected in series via a proportional feedback system, with each delay’s time and stereo pan being randomized in order to produce a natural sound similar to water drops falling onto a surface. The wide parameter range, as well as low- or high-frequency feedback damping, allow Droplet to produce a huge variety of effects – not just its trademark raindrop delay but also lush reverb and resonator simulations. The built-in modulation oscillator adds a unique dimension and unison detune to the sound, thanks to its unique flipped-polarity routing. And thanks to the fact that the randomization seed is generated each time the plugin is loaded, just like the natural process it’s modeling, every instance of Droplet will always sound different."

Patch Notes: Heinali

video by FACTmagazine

"Heinali is the alias of Ukrainian composer and sound artist Oleg Shudeiko, a musician who works extensively with modular synthesis.

On his latest album, Madrigals, he takes inspiration from the music of the Middle Ages, utilising historical instruments such as the theorbo lute and baroque alto viola alongside generative synthesis.

In this episode of Patch Notes, recorded live at Ostriv in Kyiv last year, Heinali keeps things simple, crafting a dreamy performance with a compact modular system.

Madrigals is out now on Injazero Records. Find the rest of Heinali’s music at Bandcamp.
