Therevox Ondes VCO eurorack module

video upload by NOISEBUG

https://www.noisebug.net/products/the...

"ONDES VCO

The Ondes VCO is a eurorack compatible re-creation of the original 7th generation Ondes Martenot oscillator with several improvements and additional synth-friendly features.

A RARE LEGEND RE-IMAGINED
The Ondes Martenot is one of the first electronic musical instruments, originally designed in 1928 by cellist and wartime radio telegrapher Maurice Martenot. In the 52 years that followed, the instrument was in continous development. By 1975 the vacuum tubes were replaced by solid state electronics allowing for many new and unique timbral combinations. We have revived these sounds from original schematics provided by and with guidance from Jean Landry, who was responsible for repairing many Ondes Martenot in Canada.

From the original discrete triangle core oscillator to the specialized wave shapers and mixing circuits, these sounds are now available for modular synthesis. The layout and function of each switch has been preserved to make this oscillator an ideal performance tool, and three independent switchable outputs can be used to patch unique destinations in the spirit of the Ondes Martenot's selectable Diffuseurs.

IMPROVED AND EXTENDED
Our Ondes VCO uses a temperature correcting pitch circuit, precision components, and also makes several improvements that increase stability over variations in voltage and temperature. For interfacing with the synth world, we have added a 1V/OCT pitch input, four position octave switch and three buffered outputs. We have also added two high-quality internal VCAs giving CV control over Octaviant (8) and Gambe (G) waveforms with illuminated level indication.

Silkscreened aluminum front panels are available in four different colours and combinations of industrial powder-coating and bead-blasted anodizing. All units go through final inspection and calibration by Therevox in Canada.

Rhythmic LFOs How-To w/ NSI Quad LFO + Expander + Babel

video upload by New Systems Instruments

"This video explains how to make rhythmic LFOs with your Eurorack modular system, using the Quad LFO, the Phase Expander, and Babel from New Systems Instruments. You can use these same principles to combine any modulation sources that give you control over the phase of the outputs, and with any maximum/minimum/analog logic module. But note that the behavior of exclusive some (XOR/balanced middle) is unique to Babel.

For more about these modules, see:

https://nsinstruments.com/modules/qlf...
https://nsinstruments.com/modules/bab...
https://nsinstruments.com/modules/HSO...

Module descriptions:

The Quad LFO is an 8 HP analog sine core oscillator, giving four independent sine wave outputs. Each of the outputs ranges from nearly stopped to about 23Hz, covering the full sub-audio range and just dipping into the low audible frequencies. Each has linear voltage control as well, meaning that an increase in control voltage gives a proportional increase in output frequency. While each LFO is initially configured as a sine wave, there are four jumpers on the back to switch between sine and pulse wave outputs. This can be handy for using one of the four LFOs as a clock, or if you just want a square wave LFO for some other reason.

The 6 HP associated expander gives you three more LFO outputs, in a controlled phase relationship with the LFO to which they are connected. That is, each of the outputs is delayed by a certain percentage of the LFO cycle. The first output ranges from 0–180º, or from unison to a half cycle delay. The second ranges from 90–270º, or from a quarter cycle to three quarter cycle delay. And the last ranges from 180–360º, or from a half cycle to a full cycle delay. The phase expander can be useful for creating interesting rhythmic modulations, or when the LFO is configured as a square wave, giving you three phases of a sine wave LFO synced to a clock."

Spectralis Walkthrough Part 1 - Navigate oscillator routing and some basic sequencing

video upload by MIDERA

"I haven't made a Spectralis walkthrough or tutorial in a long time so I tried to make a more in-depth walkthrough of the Spectralis I and II oscillator routing and structure. Hopefully this is something you can go along with and learn some things as I walk through this. I realize I fumble around quite a bit, but some of the things in the Spectralis I just never use so I haven't put much effort into learning. Please set your bar low for quality of my video - I'm not loopop and don't have the time to produce better videos. Sorry for that.

Where I think this will help is for someone wanting to learn how to route the digital VCO's into different filters.

I go through the basic overview of the Spectralis, then demonstrate activating the oscillators, how to route them, how to modulate them, and how to sequence them. At the end, I also go into routing external gear into the analog filters as well, although I wasn't intending to do that during this video.

My apologies for the video quality. I chose to use my iPhone to see how it would work and I was absolutely disappointed with how it turned out, from a shaky screen to low resolution to the inability to use the video without converting it first (and finding that conversion of the video slightly changed the speed of it too, making it difficult to sync with audio).

Hopefully you find this useful. But if not. That's ok too.

THE ARP ODYSSEY...

"The Odyssey was ARP's primary lead/solo synthesizer. It was designed for musicians who wanted more control than the preset-oriented Soloist could provide, but didn't want the large size and patch cables of the 2600. Over its 8-year lifespan, the Odyssey went through three versions. The changes between them were sonic, cosmetic, and functional – to the point where musicians of today often consider the Odyssey to have existed as three distinct instruments."

To learn more about the ARP Odyssey, please visit our Music Makers & Machines page on Google Arts & Culture. Story by Mike Metlay with editorial contributions from Rich Formidoni, Mary Lock, & Dina Pearlman.

And the full performances:

Farewell Phoenix September Pop-Up Performance

"Lynn Fister is a Vietnamese-American experimental musician, writer and visual artist residing in Asheville, NC. She has been making drone-pop and ambient music for over a decade. After taking a long hiatus from their own music, Lynn has recently returned to creating solo music once again as Farewell Phoenix. These new explorations concentrate on choral soundscapes manipulated by and integrated with modular synthesizers. She is now particularly interested in how installations, space and environment inform music-making. Although there are no releases to date under this name, Farewell Phoenix recordings should be available in the near future.
https://linktr.ee/farewell.phoenix"

Sleep Number September Pop-Up Performance

"Sleep Number, a solo project by Asheville based musician Sophie Froehlich Hull, was born out of brief moments of exploration between band practices. Sleep Number blends drone and noise, all while a structural undercurrent keeps it grounded. The recent addition of Make Noise’s Strega into her gear has allowed her to lean into the grit and noise side of Sleep Number, further fueling her desire to experiment and push the bounds of cultivating her own atmosphere of sound.
Sophie is the operations manager inside Static Age Records. She also organizes a quarterly live drone session, named 'Drones in the Garden,' with co-founder Lynn Fister. She has two short releases on Bandcamp and is set to record her full album this winter.

Thom Nguyen September Pop-Up Performance

"Thom Nguyen is an Asheville-based improvisor and drummer of MANAS, Nest Egg, We Bow To No Masters, etc. Producing energetic bursts and invoking a sensitivity to space that one often associates with Free-Jazz and New Music percussion, Nguyen’s approach elegantly bridges works of sonic sculpture with a punk aesthetic of immediacy, of aggression and playfulness. He also runs a drum rental business, Batteria Backline.
https://thomnguyen.bandcamp.com/"

Sarah Louise September Pop Up Performance

"Sarah Louise is interested in how music can help us remember what kind of animal we are. Likewise, she is interested in what synthesis can reveal about the natural world. On her two most recent albums, she uses electronics to create organic sound environments for inner journeys. Her newest as-of-yet unreleased music is joyful and danceable, revealing the importance of embodiment and collective energy to her ever-evolving sounds. Believing that everyone’s expression is as important as anyone else’s, she is also branching into facilitation, helping to create nonhierarchical safer spaces for group singing, celebration and whatever else may arise. Having started as a solo 12-string guitarist and singer of traditional songs, she brings a unique sense of rhythm, harmony and emotionality to her electronic music. You can find her music and keep in touch with her musings and group experiences by following her Bandcamp.

Rich Textures through Wave Interferences (Moog Mother-32 Into Starlab)

video upload by PanicGirlVids

"Searching for interesting textures, movements, as well as small irritations in sound is something I spent very much time with.

One thing I love to do is using two (or more) oscillators, and shifting one of them slightly in pitch to get a richer sound through the interferences between the waves.

Here I tried a slightly different approach. I used the Triangle Out of the LFO and patched it into the External Audio Input, hence overriding the normalization of the White Noise to the clockwise position of the Mixer knob in the upper row of the Mother-32. This way you can have two notes playing at the same time, even though the LFO stays at the same pitch.

Additionally I patched the Saw Oscillator Output into the Filter Cutoff, so every time I turn the Cutoff knob to the left you can hear those beautiful interferences coming in and out. And it also sounds different with every note being played.

From my Eurorack case I only used the Starlab module from Strymon for a lush and cinematic reverb.

What are your favourite sounds, that you can't get enough of?

Thanks so much for watching!"

Arturia OB-Xa V - Sound Bank '79

video upload by Polydata

"Drawing from the earliest days of polyphonic synthesizers, Sound Bank ‘79 for the Arturia OB-Xa V finds its inspiration in synthesizer music found in documentaries and library music from the late 70’s and early 80’s.

A bank comprising 40 patches for instant inspiration. The goal was to squeeze as much vintage analog juice out of this plug-in as possible, primarily working within the constraints of the original Oberheim OB-Xa. Sound Bank '79 is a series of vintage tones for different synths and plug-ins, so look out for future releases. Recorded completely dry with no external effects or processing.

Ableton Note iOS iPhone Jam, First Impressions of the App

video upload by Expanding Sound

"Ableton Just released Note today, the new sketchpad app for iOS. I downloaded it and spent an hour or 2 with the app. I had some fun making a quick jam with it. A couple thoughts. No panning in mixer mode seems odd to me. Unless i just couldn't figure it out, I didn't see an option to pan. The effects are fun to play with. It seems like a fun program to just pick up and go, but so is Korg Gadget, which also exports to Ableton quite easily. I think I would have been more excited for this program if another more in depth mobile version of Live was introduced alongside this release. But its still fun to play with and sounds nice. This is what I made with it. Hope you enjoy!"
