Checksum - semi generative Syntakt jam

video upload by

"In this jam I use probability and various trig conditions to create an evolving melody with some variating kick and hat patterns. I utilized the retrig options to create a hat patter with a bit of groove, and also offset some of the kicks for some swing. Really enjoying this machine so far

*(there is post processing on the mix, eq compression and clipping)"

Simmons SDSV SDS5 Analog Drum Synthesizer

via this auction

"Fully Functional. Tested trigger inputs with Roland tr606 and everything sounded as it should. Cannot confirm or deny but rumored to have been used by Prince. I left the pencil markings on front of face plate due to this (may be from him) although they could easily be rubbed off. Check the picture of the label from studio it was used by, allegedly rented to Prince for sessions."

VINTAGE Simmons Digital Clap Trap Handclap Synthesizer

via this auction

"Excellent condition considering the age and rarity of these units. Sounds awesome and is highly playable and tweakable, making it easy to dial in the perfect clap sound.

The Simmons Digital Clap Trap was used on many hit-records of the 1980s and is becoming an increasingly rare collector’s item. Perfect for interesting clap sounds and noise hits, this hard to find Simmons piece does the trick. This version of the Simmons uses a sampled clap plus noise that is controlled/manipulated by an analogue circuit. Can sound pretty realistic, or not if you push the settings.

The Clap Trap allows you to balance between a clap and noise sound. Pitch and decay adjust for each sound. Very nice sound and surprisingly useful for such a straight-forward device. You can trigger it from an external trigger or audio input, manual trigger button or use the auto-trigger mode (with adjustable speed). The humanizer feature alters the pitch of successive claps. To hear the humanizer effect in action, use the manual trigger and play it very quickly."

Vermona ET-3 all transistor East German combo organ

video upload by ohm_studi_ohm

"Here is a quick demo of a recently serviced Vermona ET-3 combo organ. This one is the early model that is 100% transistor (silicon). Later revisions used chipsets.
Very simple and yet quite versatile organ. You can mix 16 / 8 / 4 footages in both formants and flutes voices, with an added low pass filter ("brillant" fader) and a nice vibrato with speed and depth control.
Very clean sounding, much better than most italian ones IMO.
Recorded straight with no eq, fx or treatment."

A LM-1 LinnDrum (PRINCE KNOCK) inside a Sequential Circuits DrumTraks

video upload by Program 17

"After 25 years I figured out how to get a DrumTraks to sound like a LM-1 Drum Computer. I program binary files. And I realized you have to take the LM-1 Snare/Rim Eprom and put it inside the Clap Slot.
a lot of people been asking me to do this to there machines. you can email me at for further info.

thx for all your support

Low-Gain Electronics S/T&H + VC Portamento : Bit Crushing Arcade SFX experiments!

video upload by LowGainElectronics

"Using the S/T&H module as a bit crusher to modulate a VCO’s frequency. Resulting in atari arcade machine sounds.

Dual Negative Slopes both in cycle mode. One providing a variable voltage source of which to be sampled. The second is simply clocking the S/T&H. Output of the S/T&H is being fed to the VCO Freq Modulation input. Audio is just direct from VCO’s output.

Module will be available soon:"

Patch of the Week: Whistle Lead (Tomita/Tangerine Dream) Using self-oscillating Filter/VCF as a VCO

video upload by AJH Synth Official

"This sound is inspired by lead sounds of the 70's/80's from Isao Tomita and Tangerine Dream (Remote Viewing), but will also be reminiscent of Kate Bush's 'All we ever wanted', and even Jeff Wayne's 'War of The Worlds' musical. It uses a filter/VCF in self-oscillation as a VCO, controlling it melodically, with envelopes and noise to help recreate the sounds. No VCO/oscillator is needed in the patch, and white or pink noise is optional, but necessary to get a Tomita-like whistle sound. Tomita originally used a Moog modular system for these sounds, so given that the AJH Synth MiniMod system and it's Transistor Ladder Filter are directly based on the early R.A.Moog version of the Minimoog, it's possible to get very close to such sounds. However, I've not tried to emulate it exactly, but you can see that the basis for this patch is very easily customisable, so it's a very useful synth patch to understand for a variety of musical applications. Patch sheet PDF can be downloaded here:

Check out the AJH Synth playlists for module 'User Guides', and 'Patch of The Week' videos, which will be either performances or 'how to' guides, detailing functions/methods, and a range of sounds, some familiar, some less so, containing a patch sheet at the end, with notes below, to show you how to construct it for yourself.

08:16 Patch Diagram

Patch Notes:
Green dots show approximate pot and switch positions. Pots and switches that do not have green dots are not used in this patch, and should be left at their zero or off positions.
This is based on the version in the video with noise mixed in as audio, and glide applied to the keyboard CV. For variations without noise or glide, and usage with a mod controller, see the appropriate part of the video (check Index). Only a couple of connections need to be changed for these purposes.
V-Scale: Used here as a simple multiple, but since it's handling Gate signals any passive multiple could be used.
DH-ADSR: Another Contour Generators could be used instead, but the advantage with the DH-ADSR is independent control of both Decay and Release, meaning greater control. It serves as a great companion to the Contour Generators for this reason.
Dual LFO: The Tap Tempo VC-LFO module could also be used here in the same way, as it also has a built-in VCA (level control).
Ladder Filter: The Gemini 2412 would also work well here, it's tracking in self-oscillation is actually better overall. It would just need to have high resonance/self-oscillation enabled by the rear jumpers (see online manual or video user guide). The Ladder Filter struggles to track at lower frequencies, this is an authentic characteristic of the original Minimoog filter, but it's fine for the pitch/note ranges used in this video. The Sonic XV will also self-oscillate, but it's ability to track 1V/Oct is not as tight as the Gemini.
Modules used from left to right: Glide + Noise (Mk I or Mk II), V-Scale, DH-ADSR Envelope, Dual LFO + VCA, Contour Generators, Transistor Ladder Filter, Discrete Cascaded VCA."

Roland Jupiter 6 61-Key Synthesizer with Europa Mod

via this auction

"Very clean Jupiter 6. A full recap was done in 2016. The synth has no issues at all and works perfectly

Europa 2.0 is installed and works perfectly.

There are two scuff marks on the corners of the face, please see pictures."

14-Voice Alesis A6 Andromeda

via this auction

"Iconic Alesis Andromeda A6 Poly Synth in excellent optical condition. Technically everything is working except for two voices (7 and 8 - see pic 3), which fail the auto tune process and thus get switched off by the A6. Probably this can be resolved, however since in practice I never missed having 2 less voices in this beast, I have not looked further into this. So in effect this is an Andromeda with 14-voices of polyphony, and thus the lower price."

Julian has presets available for the Prophet Rev 2, Prophet 6, OB-6, Prophet 5/10, Omnisphere, Softube Model 84, Model 72, Arturia OB-Xa, Arturia Stage-73 and a free bank of 50 sounds for the free VST synth “OB-Xd” — all available on my website. If you're a Nord Stage 3 user, download my bank from the Nord Keyboards website. I have a sample pack, "J3PO x The Ox" (hip hop and soul keyboard and drum loops) available on Splice.

Julian “J3PO” Pollack is a Los Angeles-based pianist/keyboardist and producer described by Timeout New York as a musician who “deftly balances virtuosity with tenderness.” Julian is known for his innovative use of keyboards and synthesizers in jazz, fusion, hip-hop, and electronic styles of music. Julian has toured extensively with the legendary artist Marcus Miller, as well as performing with artists such as Talib Kweli, David Sanborn, Michael League, Eric Harland, and others. Julian has worked closely as a sound designer with keyboard/synth companies Nord Keyboards, Sequential, and Oberheim, and has created factory presets for the Prophet 5, the Oberheim OB-X8, Take 5, Nord Stage 3, and Nord Wave 2. In addition to these hardware keyboard companies, Julian also has done sound design for Universal Audio (most recently, Opal, a new wavetable synthesizer), Softube, and Cherry Audio."

Negative Keyboard Tracking on the Waldorf Pulse

video upload by Tim Shoebridge

"This is a very very VERY brief video on the subject of filter keyboard tracking, which is something I think a lot of people new to synths don't spend enough time playing with, it can definitely add life to static sounding patches. And here in this video I demonstrate negative keyboard tracking using the rather wonderful Waldorf Pulse."

BLISTERED / 4 voice eurorack chords / stereo panning with Jolin ASHIKO / jam

video upload by BRiES

"In this patch I created 4 note chords with 4 VCOs. I routed all of them through Ashiko which is 'auto panning' the VCOs so I end up with 4 stereo pairs that's I routed through Cosmix Pro and then through a pair of stereo modulated filters for even more movement.
The VCOs I used are 2 x Generate 3, Even VCO and Moonwalker. The arp sounds are Filter 8 through 2 channels of Agogo. It's not a very complex patch but with routings like this it's important to tune the VCOs before doing anything else."

Best Ambient Synth Shootout #129: Soulsby Atmegatron - Song 1

video upload by Christian's Sonic Spaces

"This is the first song with the Atmegatron. It is a monophonic 8-bit synthesizer based on an Atmel 328P processor. The open source concept allows to install alternative firmware versions that increases the sound possibilities. This song used the alternative firmware Strings.

I used for the recording the following FX chain:
Atmegatron - Zoom MS-70CDR - Pigtronix Echolution 2 Deluxe - GFI System Specular Reverb 2. Depending on the recorded track some FX are deactivated

The signal went through a Presonus StudioLive 16.0.2 into the PC via USB for recording. To create the complete song I recorded consecutively several stereo tracks. The final song was then mastered with a bit EQ and compression on some tracks and some limiting on the master track."
