Three Generative Sequencers - And one that isn't

video upload by John Schussler

"I have a few generative sequencers I've not had time to play with, and figured I'd compare how they...play. Three are generative in one form or another, and one, the Berlin School, is not. I leave you to suffer with that incongruity in silence.

This is my first exploration with each of them, so I'm just getting a feel for how they work. You're along for the ride, but don't expect too much.

VCO is Acid Rain Chainsaw. LPG is Rabid Elephant Natural Gate. No envelope. Delay here and there is Make Noise Mimeophon. Quantizer is 2hp Tune.

00:20 Feigen
12:00 Anima
23:29 Odds
31:34 Berlin School"

This appears to be the first post to feature Subsongs Modular.

Prophet 5 / Prophet 10 Rev4 - Adagio for Strings - OS 2.0.4 Expressivity Test

video upload by Orano Music

"Sequential have just released the New OS 2.0.4 (in beta at the moment) - available here https://forum.sequential.com/index.ph...

Custom Patches will be available for this great synth soon from https://www.orano.co.uk/shop

This OS allows users to fine tune aftertouch and velocity for much more musical use of both. it is saveable per patch too! along with this they have added Q Compensation / Control, which is similar to bass compensation but allows more of the original signal / body through on higher resonance patches, gives much more punch and body to pads / leads / basses etc.

this isn't a walkthrough, it was merely to show how even more expressive the P5 & 10 can now be! just stunning!

Complete Changelog below for 2.0.4

P5/10 Main 2.0.4 / Panel 1.1.3 Changelog

New Feature: Q Compensation adjustable per patch
New Feature: Adjustable Velocity and Aftertouch Amounts per patch
New Feature: High Note Priority Added for UNISON
New Feature: Link Layers by holding UNISON and pressing PRESET, changes to panel will affect both layers simultaneously
Changed Feature: Adjust balance between programs in a split/stack by holding PRESET and turning the volume pot. Volume pot centered is equal volume on both patches.
Bug Fix: Module Only - Certain params being set to 0 when Live Panel mode entered, regardless of physical pot position
Bug Fix: AT/Velocity/Voice Allocation settings not retained after power cycling if an alternate tuning is selected
Bug Fix: in split mode, value indicator LED only shows stored value for layer A
Bug Fix: No MIDI control to indicate switch between layer A/B in stack/split mode - Assigned to CC80
Bug Fix: reduce unison detune on 2nd voice card in Unison 2 mode
Bug Fix: After the Mac comes out of sleep mode, MIDI not transmitted from the synth via USB until USB cable removed/reinserted."

Prophet 5 - 7 Reasons To Buy It!

video upload by MORADEL

"Here’s my 7 reasons why I bought it."

Live toolkit: TouchOSC & MIDI control of Disting EX

via ty hodson @ sublevel9 lab

"Control your Disting EX via a TouchOSC control surface running on your phone or tablet, and see those changes reflected in real-time on another TouchOSC instance running on your studio computer. Grab for a knob on your MIDI controller because you like its tactile feeling for a particular parameter, and see those changes reflected on the Disting EX and in the TouchOSC instances as well. Meanwhile, Live is recording all of the parameter changes, regardless of their origin.

Read up on how this all works, and download a pre-built Live set that you can customize for your own MIDI hardware layout."

Olivella SIGNOS + Sport Modulator 2 = Feedback!

SIGNOS is an incredibly versatile dual channel utility and waveshaper module for CV and audio processing in just 8HP.

Both X and Y channels feature a classic / unipolar VCA with separate normal and inverted outputs, a polarizer / four-quadrant multiplier / bipolar VCA, a -5V to +5V manual offset voltage that gets summed with their respective channel's bipolar VCA outputs and a red/green LED indicator for this output. The offset voltage can be used on its own if no input signal is present.

X and Y sums of their bipolar VCAs output + offset (X+offset and Y+offset) are then feeded to these logic and waveshaper circuits:

AND analog logic gate: outputs the minimum of X+offset and Y+offset.
OR analog logic gate: outputs the maximum of X+offset and Y+offset.
MOD waveshaper: represents the mathematical modulo operation as a CV modulator and waveshaper, with X+offset and Y+offset affecting different parts of this circuit.
SHIFT waveshaper: originally designed to pitch-shift sawtooth waves up an octave, it can also do interesting wave-mangling to all kinds of signals.

All of the above are just the module’s building blocks, only the tip of the iceberg of what SIGNOS can do. It naturally lends itself to feedback patching techniques within itself and/or other modules, complex waveshaping, external signal processing and more. The limits of what SIGNOS can do are completely up to you.

"All synth sounds are from the 4 voice, Dave Smith Instruments, Poly Evolver Rack. I'm using a hardware looper to create a few short demos to show how the synth sounds. Its one of the earliest analog stereo synths and still sounds amazing! You can download some of my tracks for free at http://retrosynths.com"

Battery Powered Mellotron!

video upload by John L Rice

"Quick test to see if this rechargeable 12 volt battery pack by TalentCell, model LF4100, would power my Mellotron Micro OK and it does! I haven’t tested it for how long it can power the Mellotron but I’m guessing “long enough”? 😄 This battery pack also has a 9 volt output and a 5v USB output. Once I find my 9v polarity reverse adapter cable I’ll try another more involved test. #mellotron #synthesizers #batterypowered"

"1970's ARP Odyssey II (Model 2810) - Serial Number: 1812

Odyssey Mark II's were produced between 1975 and 1978. They are largely similar to Mark I's; the main differences are the use of the black and gold color scheme and the inclusion of CV/gate in all models.

The main filter board was replaced a longtime ago, it's possibly the best sounding Odyssey we've heard come through our doors. Filter board is by BEMS (see photos).

Wonderful machine, showing average surface wear for it's age. Perfectly vintage."

Control of the beastie is greatly enhanced by the superb TouchOSC template created by Mod Wiggler member bcomnes

Here I'm running the Wingipoo out through Lancet Retroverb spring reverb for extra metal drippiness.

GRP - A1

video upload by SchneidersLaden

"Let's listen to the GRP Synthesizer A1 - a very small analog monosynth with a high-quality sound, MIDI, CV connectability – it can be used stand-alone in its very solid case, or mounted in a eurorack modular synth. It has a good size for jamming and a quality feel.

The sound is similar to the bigger GRP synths. The filter design has a lot of character and is capable of producing formant/vocal-like sounds and a liquid sounding resonance. The great sounding distortion parameter offers many more options for designing sounds. With its MIDI and CV/Gate inputs this is a synthesizer that fits in all studio or live-environments."

A new PPG wave 2.2 Sound Tutorial
One of the most impressive intros for synthesizer geeks is Deeper and Deeper by The Fixx from the year 1983. I tried a lot and I came closest to the result when I triggered the PPG wave 2.2 synthesizer from the Linndrum. The resolution is changed manually so results this rattling sound. In the Wave synthesizer memory is a wavetable sound.

The PPG wave & Waveterm Synthesizer System from the year 1982 is one of most fascinating synthesizers ever. You can find a lot demo videos, sound tutorials about the Wave and the Waveterm in the PPG wave playlist.

Quick DK Synergy Sequencer Tutorial

video upload by Bata

"Someone asked how I did something in another Synergy video so I'm showing how I went about it here. It looks like the overdubbed sequences are cutting off the last note played so its possible that you do need to enter an extra note for the overdubbed sequences as well. I will investigate this more in the next couple days."
