In 2003, I flew to Paris for my second visit with the legendary French electronic music pioneer, Jean Jacques Perrey. I was working on an solo electronic music album of my own, and I had asked Mssr. Perrey to play his Ondioline on my version of a tune he had once recorded in 1960, called "Chicken on the Rocks". I brought the new backing track with me, that I had previously started in my home studio, and David kindly agreed to record JJ's Ondioline in his own home studio. I filmed part of the session with my little camcorder. After we had finished the song, I traveled with JJ to his home in Lausanne, Switzerland, and on the train trip there he told me, "I would love to record an entire album with you!" So, I saved this song for our first duo album, "The Happy Electropop Music Machine", which was released in 2006 by Oglio Records in Los Angeles. A few years later, the song was used in an episode of "South Park", which brought in a substantial amount of money for all involved. That led to JJ and my performing many concerts, both in Europe, Canada and America. This video documents the start of it all!

How to setup midi sync between analog synths with Grandmother and OB-6

"I received a question for how to set up the Sequential Circuits OB-6 as a master clock that can drive the Moog Grandmother to sync the two synths in a DAW-less environment. This is a universal setup process, where one synth has to be the master clock, and the other sync has to receive the master clock and sync its note attacks.

One caveat is that the old MIDI protocol that is used outside of a DAW is not extremely stable. I got lucky in this video, where clock drift didn't happen, but before the convenience of computers, electronic musicians used to buy expensive Master MIDI clocks to drive all synths from one location."

This is a percussive voice composed of four CMOS square wave oscillators with manual frequency controls. The harmonies between them create metallic chiming sounds. Two of the oscillators have mute switches to simplify the sound, and a loop toggle allows you to create repeating sounds.

Compatible with 12V or 15V systems, PC mounted pots, but jacks/toggles are offboard.

"In 1971, the congenial mathematician, quantum physicist and room acoustics expert Michael Gerzon published an article about a reverberation device. The device in question used a matrix operation to rotate two signals inside each other. He concludes in his article that it would be impossible to build the device using existing technology.

In this conversation concert, we present Gerzon's device, re-imagined as a resonator. Its complex analogue circuitry is based on two bucket-brigade delays and an analogue rotary operation. Thanks to this circuitry, our new Eurorack module produces rich harmonic and inharmonic spectra, creating physical and vivid sounds with astonishing depth and detail. For the first time, efficient physical modelling synthesis is possible in an analogue signal path, going beyond the usual harmonic string sounds and opening up fascinating new soundscapes. The Resonator offers a wealth of parameters, yet remains intuitively playable, inspiring audiences and performers alike."
