"I pulled this SK30 out. Haven't used it in a year? Maybe longer? It's so heavy. I set it up and look at it. For sure I'm going to sell it. I'll drop the price if I have to. It's so big. It's just too damn big.

I turn it on. Some of the sliders are scratchy. Even more evidence it needs to go.

I play it. It sings.

I record this.

I guess I need to keep it.

"Electronic Dream Plant WASP synthesizer demo for Matt. This WASP was repaired and the ELBY MIDI kit was installed by Synth Tailor Electronics.

All sounds made by the WASP (excluding the percussion made by the Sequential Circuits DRUMTRAKS drum machine + Arturia Keystep Pro controlled sequences via MIDI)

The EDP WASP is a hybrid digital VCO and analogue VCF synthesizer designed by Chris Huggett. the Wasp was released in 1978. Such an interesting little synth, that has a very unique sound. The keybed is a touch sensitive two octave keyboard, that works by sensing skin capacitance, so playing with gloves on is out of the question. The midi kit is a must to install in these units to be able to use in a modern setup."

64 GREAT DRUM PATTERNS! BETTER THAN A TR-808? Demo of Roland Rhythm Performer TR-8S

"This video will demo the Roland Rhythm Performer TR-8S, a powerful next-generation 'drum machine' with a huge collection of complex patterns and a multitude of sample drum kits, TR sounds, effects, filters etc. It was released in 2018. This video will demo the sound of the initial 64 drum patterns of a total of 128 built-in patterns. I am just 'scratching the surface' of this extremely capable drum machine.

Video clips were recorded in 4K (60 fps) on a Panasonic Lumix GH5 and were edited in Adobe Premiere Pro. Audio was recorded in 96 KHz 32 bit on a Solid State Logic SSL 2+ thunderbolt 3 interface straight into an iPad Pro running Cubasis 3. All audio output effects are default Roland TR-8S."

Hellmouth Moog Spectravox and Strymon Starlab Horror Drone

"I wasn't sure what to expect from the Spectravox. I never thought it would turn out to be one of the meanest drone synths I've ever encountered. It's one oscillator but somehow the resonance compensation plus the spectral shift can just sound ferocious.

This is basically the Spectravox running through the Rossum Morbius filter into Qu-Bit Nautilus with reverb via the Strymon Starlab.

I feel like I'm a little at odds with some of these uploads. Some people really seem to like the drone content, others not so much. It's definitely darker than a lot of the gentler ambient stuff that gets posted. But I've decided to just post what I've working on hoping there are people who'll find it interesting.

Not talking about synths with split points etc. The Six-Trak don't have that.
I'm talking about starting up the arpeggiator with a patch, and then without stopping the arp, playing chords over it. Over the entire keyboard. Either with the same patch OR another one. How cool is that?
At the top of my head (by the time I'm typing this) I can't think of one other synth from the 80s or 90s that can do this except this and the Multi-Trak."

"The Korg Nanokontrol is such a nice little music plaything. And so is the Yamaha FB01 ... and the RK006 ... and the RK002.... so ... lets make something reeeeallly useful with it!

We already did a RK002/Nanokontrol/PG300 editor combo for the Roland Alpha Juno [posted here] but the Yamaha FB-01 4-OP FM unit is a different ballgame. This little synth box has quite some parameters up it's sleeve and arranging it on a Nanokontrol was a bit of a challenge.

It turned out pretty nice though, in this video a bit about making this setup work and an introduction to editing the patches. (PS: Make sure 'memory protect' on the FB01 is set to OFF or the patches will not be saved)

"Triple window comparator, each section has different features.

"This module contains three individual window comparator circuits. They all work slightly differently from each other and somewhat differently from regular window comparators.

These are particularly useful circuits to create gate/timed events from chaos signals, or any other CV signal. It can also be used for pulse width modulation at audio rates, lots of good sounds to be found.

The rather grandiose names for each comparator came from a paper - Some Special-Purpose Comparator Circuits by H.K Verma. The actual circuits are different but two are inspired by the ones presented in the paper.

1. Special Comparison Instant – this is probably the most normal window comparator of the three. The pots can be used to set the high and low voltages between which the output gate will be high. You can also patch in CV signals to alter the high and low settings.

2. Comp for Concurrent Magnitudes – this will output a gate when the signal on Input 1 is compared against the setting of the SET/In2 pot. If no signal is on In 2 then the pot sets a fixed voltage, otherwise the signal on In 1 is compared with the amplitude of the signal on In 2, which can be attenuated by the pot as desired.

The extra feature of this circuit is the Level pot can set the gate level (up to 10V!) or you can patch a signal into the LEVEL input and create envelopes or bursts rather than gates.

3. Comp for Restricted Openings – this one has a pot (WIDTH) or CV control to set and change the gate width. In1 and In2 are summed together and compared with the level chosen with the SET pot.

Building is fairly simple, just be mindful to bend the LEDs slightly upwards to shine thru the windows from the bottom. It is good to use super-bright LEDs in this module as they have to shine thru the PCB panel."
