Rare GEM PK 4900 Synthesizer Demo

video upload by foleytronics fx repair

"In this video, we are displaying Kelly's working GEM PK 4900, a very nice-sounding and rare synth. In addition, feast your eyes and ears on Tom's Publison DHM 89 B2, Anonymous's EMT 250 and Ramble's Juno-6. We recorded the drums in my basement a couple years ago and bounced it to the Tascam portastudio, and we're running it all through the Opamp Labs console (for sale!).

The EMT in this video has been fully done up to the 9s with all new caps, a new 128k SRAM board to reduce heat and improve stability, and of course all digital logic problems solved."

HWJ Weekend Challenge - Umeda Sky Bldg. in Osaka, Japan

video upload by SynthAddict

"Maschine+

I stayed next door to this bldg. on a business trip in Osaka once. It always reminded me of Blade Runner, but here I decided to do a percussive Japanese scale theme thingy. :-)

This was a crazy heavy sound set, both in sources and CPU usage. Watch my CPU percentage peg several times to a blinking circle - always a harrowing time while live performing since it can lock up. :-P"

The Superer Jupiter // Roland MKS80 with the Retroaktiv MPG8x

video upload by Starsky Carr

"Already ducking for cover! The Roland MKS-80 Super Jupiter is often labelled as an enhanced Jupiter 8 in a box - even Vintage Synth Explorer calls it something like that. Here I look at it along with the Retroaktiv Super Controller.. which really does feel like it brings the instrument up to date and makes it a whole lot easier to use. Essentially if you're thinking of buying an MKS80 or if you've got one you never really use... GET ONE OF THESE. They're cheaper than the original MPG80 controllers, and blow them out of the water as far as functionality is concerned."

John Chowning, Computer Music, DX7 & FM Discovery

video upload by Anthony Marinelli Music

"It was an honor for me to interview John Chowning who is directly responsible for the way we create music today in every genre! His visionary ideas have profoundly shaped contemporary music creation, including the integration of computers, AI, digital synthesis, sound sharing, and surround sound.

He stands as a monumental figure in 21st-century music, renowned for his pioneering contributions as a composer, musician, and educator. As the founding director of the Center for Computer Research in Music and Acoustics (CCRMA) at Stanford University, Chowning made groundbreaking strides in the field. His historic discovery of FM synthesis not only became one of Stanford’s most valuable patents but also paved the way for Yamaha’s DX7 synthesizer through their licensing of FM sound synthesis technology.

Another important aspect of Chowning's work is the simulated motion of sound through physical space creating an illusion of a continuous 360-degree space using only four speakers. John’s boundless curiosity and groundbreaking achievements have established him as a bright shining beacon of inspiration for musicians everywhere.

Introducing Sound Blocks — A playground for making music

video upload by Nazaray

The Story Behind Sound Blocks — A playground for composing music

Currently on Kickstarter

"What is Sound Blocks?

Sound Blocks is a groundbreaking music composition app for Mac and Windows. You simply place blocks of sound anywhere on the grid, connect them together and play!

It's a beautifully animated experience that really brings out the visual character of sounds — (kind of like synesthesia).

You can add 'Control Blocks' to your sequence that act as modifiers for speed, time, randomization and more. Using these tools, you can create intricate musical machines that loop in interesting ways.

It's a remarkably simple new workflow that removes the obstacles and steep learning curves commonly associated with conventional music production software — and by the nature of its distinct design, lets you do things that you might never think doing of with other music apps.

Who is it for? Can I use it if I'm not a musician?

Sound Blocks is for anyone who wants to dive into music production, whether you're a child, non-musician, gamer or a professional music producer — it has something for everyone. The workflow is super intuitive and playful, and you can learn to use it in about 10 seconds — no prior music experience needed.

What does it offer for skilled musicians and producers?

Sound Blocks will give you a completely new workflow to experiment and create the kind of music you might otherwise never make using a conventional DAW. The non-linear sequencing approach, alongside features like Control Blocks and asynchronous loops will open new creative avenues for some serious artistic exploration. The more funding our Kickstarter project raises, the more advanced features we'll be able to add, such as the ability to add your own samples, crazy effects pedals and much much more. We will be sharing a detailed development roadmap soon."

What the Nord Lead could have looked like in black.

"Here‘s something different—a Nord Lead 2X painted black. The previous owner painted it and also had tape over a number of the the buttons and lights, hence there is some residue you can see in the photos. Despite how it looks, it appears to work perfectly other than two minor issues: one of the keys is higher than the others (see pics) but still works fine, and the ”C” button sometimes sticks when pressed in and has to be pressed several times to pop out. Works perfectly for me as a sound module, and I kind of dig the matte black finish, but please review the pics and description carefully. Includes power cable."

I don't think I ever noticed the 2X had a detachable power cord. The original Nord Lead had a permanently attached grey power cord.

You can find demos in previous posts here.

"Excellent condition and amazing example of a very rare drum synth from the early 80s. Even if you can find one, they aren't all created equal as they were customizable with a potential for 10 independent drum tone generators, some digital, and some analog.

This one has 9/10 possible modules and includes:

Bass Kick
Snare
Toms (3)
Crash
Ride
HHat
Synth (tone generator)
I control this with an Arturia Beat Step and it works super well. There are tons of knobs for tweaking filters, noise, pitch, decays, and more. It's a rare beast and makes super fat and unique sounds.

Only note:
The hhat track produce a very faint high pitch tone that seems to be associated with the pitch control knobs, so when using those tracks I've had to apply a little noise reduction (brusfri gets rid of it nice and easy). I'm sure this is fixable/serviceable, but I haven't had the need to do it. For all I know, they all do this!

Nice cosmetic condition. Minor scratching on the wood panels and minor imperfections commensurate with age."

"Extremely rare late 70s Star Instruments Percussion Synthesizer. Complete and in working condition. Tested all functions and it's all working. Foam pads however have hardened due to age and are cracked - need replacement. In its current state I was able to trigger all 12 pad zones and can confirm it's working. LFO and ring modulator sections working. White noise and pink noise working. Resonance slider is missing will need to be replaced. All other sliders operating. Not many of these around - amazing and unique filters and effects. Restore this rare beauty for optimal performance! No reserve."

"Gamechanger Audio Launches the Revolutionary AUTO Series Pedals

Gamechanger Audio’s brand-new pedal line, The AUTO Series, is now available online and across all dealer channels, starting with three classic effect pedals – AUTO Reverb, AUTO Chorus, and AUTO Delay.

ABOUT THE AUTO SERIES

Gamechanger Audio is thrilled to announce the launch of its new AUTO Series. This innovative pedal line features the AUTO Delay, the AUTO Reverb, and AUTO Chorus, designed to revolutionize the way musicians experience and interact with classic audio effects. By introducing a new layer of parameter automation that responds and reacts to the player's touch, dynamics, and note choices, The AUTO Series provides an unprecedented level of effects control and creative expression.

At their core, each AUTO Series pedal offers a meticulously crafted palette of sound algorithms, providing a vast range of foundational tones. The primary advantage is the ability to automate these sounds later, but even on their own, they already deliver exceptional quality, making them highly versatile and impressive standalone tools.

Each pedal's AUTO Section has two on-board signal analysis engines, engineered to transfer musical nuances onto the effects parameters. The DYNAMICS tracker is fine-tuned to capture all details of playing dynamics, and animate parameters based on the player's picking style as well as each instrument's loudness and decay. The PITCH tracker detects note choices, and changes in the instrument's tone. These automations can be linked to any of the four effect knobs, setting the parameters in motion.

The entire automation section is engaged with the AUTO footswitch. This allows for the automations to be prepared with the patch cables and then toggled ON or OFF as needed. The small PARAMETER AUTOMATION knobs directly below each of the main EFFECT PARAMETER knobs determine the amount of automation and direction for each parameter individually. The automation functions can be fine-tuned using calibration and several effect engagement modes.

The Design of the AUTO Series pedals draws inspiration from the world of modular synthesis. The series' unique patchbay interface allows to create a straightforward and robust connection between the two on-board trackers and any of the effects parameters using 3.5mm (1 ⁄ 8 inch) jack patch cables.
A batch of six patch cables are included with each pedal.

The AUTO Series PITCH and DYNAMICS trackers are extremely precise and versatile, flawlessly tailored for all styles of guitar playing, yet not limited to string instruments. All pedals feature an input level switch that lets you choose between instrument level (INST), line level (LINE), and Eurorack synthesizer level (EU) input.

While Gamechanger are not hiding their intention of releasing a wide array of popular effects types under the “Automation” banner, the AUTO Series is debuting with three classic time-based digital stereo effects:
