New Binary Synth Allows You to Play Binary Code Within Any Given File

video upload by Max Alyokhin

This should go without saying, but don't drop any sensitive, private, or personal files.

"Demo: https://bs.stranno.su

Source code and application principle: https://github.com/MaxAlyokhin/binary...

A web-synthesizer that generates sound from the binary code of any files. It can synthesize sound directly in the browser, or be a generator of MIDI messages to external devices or DAWs, turning any file into a score. All the application code is written in Javascript and along with everything you need is packed into a single .html file of about 750kb. The synthesizer doesn't need internet, it can be downloaded and run locally on any device with a browser.

All data on any computer or smartphone is in the form of files. The contents of these files are ultimately just zeros and ones. And these zeros and ones are basically all the same, so we need an interpreter to extract meaning from these texts. Basically, the file format (.mp3, .docx, etc.) is just a pointer to which interpreter we need to pass the text in order to extract meaning from it.

But what if the file format and the interpreter don't match? In the case of musical experimentation, there have been earlier attempts, for example, to "play" a file through an audio editor, which expectedly produced mostly glitch and noise; it might be more interesting from a conceptual than a musical point of view.

We could go further and write our own interpreter that would look at the files without regard to format, use its own "manner of reading" the original zeros and ones, and on that basis provide a complete system for controlled synthesis of sounds.

The tool, called Binary synth, is available at: https://bs.stranno.su.

The application is a web synthesizer that runs in the browser and is written in Javascript. All the application code along with everything needed is packed into a single .html file of about 750kb.

New ellitone KeyControl_2 Midi Controller

demo video upload by ellitone instruments

"*now available at ellitone.com

The ellitone KeyControl_2 is a midi keyboard controller that features 12 velocity-sensitive wooden Touch Bars. Completely redesigned from the ground up, the KeyControl_2 is the exciting sequel to the popular KeyControl midi keyboard. After a year of user feedback and suggestions, the KC2 was created to be a superior performance midi keyboard controller that combines a streamlined user experience with exotic hardwood aesthetics.

The KC2 features 16 selectable musical scales from around the world. Inspired by hand-pan drums, these 16 musical scales each offer a different mood for your playing and exploration. The best thing about these selected musical scales is that it is impossible to hit a “wrong note”, No musical theory or piano playing ability is required to successfully enjoy this device. As seen in the demo video, the KC2 can be played like a piano using single fingers, or like a drum using both hands to trigger groups of multiple notes at once. An improved velocity tracking system allows the KC2 to be played like a digital hand drum that responds to the smallest change in play pressure!

The KC2 offers both USB-C midi output and TRS midi output simultaneously. The TRS midi output can be adapted to a classic 5-pin DIN midi cable using an inexpensive TRS to DIN midi cable adapter (TRS type A)

There are many changes, redesigns, and improvements from the original KeyControl, so lets explore each one:

Keytek CTS2000 - 1987 Cross Table Sample Synthesizer - custom presets with Enso Looper & Fac Alteza

video upload by VSMI - Vintage Synths Made in Italy

"Keytek CTS 2000 - 'Cross Table Sample Synthesizer' Made in Italy (1987) ex-Siel
play with Enso Looper and FAC Alteza reverb - feat. Godwin DrumMaker32.
'Keytek CTS 2000 use an advanced signal processing technique, Cross Table Sampling. Going beyond sampling, CTS starts with a digitally recorded signal and uses external digital signal processing to modify and compress the original sample. The data is then put into wave tables. Keytek CTS instruments can read from two tables, or cross tables. This gives you all the sounds in the wave tables plus all the sounds from combinations of wave tables. Post sample processing, combined with a powerful resynthesis method using cross tables, allows Keytek CTS instruments to store a complete library of sounds in the space normally required for one sample.'

'Features of the CTS-2000
61 key [C to C] Velocity sensitive keyboard
6 voice with 2 signal sources per voice
320 wavetables in ROM for instant recall
Analog signal processing on each voice, VCF and VCA each with a 7 stage envelope generator 8 data entry sliders and full alpha/numeric display for one of the most interactive, user friendly, editing systems found on a synthesizer
■'Polytimbric' up to 5 zones of 1 octave each
■ 48 user programmable presets in internal memory
External data cartridges
Full MIDI implementation, each zone completely assignable Stereo outputs, with 5 different panpots on every preset.

Keytek was started over 10 years ago by a group of engineers who believed the only way to succeed was to build high quality instruments. Since 1976, Keytek engineers have concen- trated on designs for real world musicians using sophisticated electronics to provide instruments that are reliable, serviceble and affordable.'

Bass Station + SEQtrak evil funk!

video upload by Jeremy Parker

"So I'm still borrowing this Bass Station 2 from @TheEntireRobot and enjoying it very much in combination with the Yamaha SEQtrak. I'm running the audio from the Bass Station into the SEQtrak input, so the Yamaha master effects (high pass filter and repeater in my case) can act on the Bass Station and really make everything sound cohesive. I'm 'borrowing' the SEQtrak sampler track (MIDI channel 11) for sequencing the Bass Station MIDI, which leaves my hands free to twist knobs and have some fun. In this case, I got a little evil with the funk. :D Enjoy!"

The classic string machine. This one is a Hohner but it's identical to the more common Logan String Melody 2. This has had various modifications carried to it by Tony at OakleySound. There is a new dedicated output volume control on the front panel, as well as a vibrato modulation depth control. The latter alters the amount that the 6Hz modulation LFO affects the triple BBD circuitry, So you can change from a simple chorale effect, through to the classic Logan ensemble sound, all the way to a very obvious detuned effect. The power supply has been rebuilt and a vent added to reduce the internal temperature. A standard IEC power inlet has been added to the rear panel. Other mods have been done to reduce the amount of hiss. The unit comes with the rare original top cover. Cosmetically, the unit is in fair condition, It's very clean but there are some scuffs to the outer covering, and various dings in the original veneer. The eight level sliders crackle slightly when moved, and the sliders are rather stiff. All features work as they should. A superb sound.

"A really lovely old synth, with character you don't get with anything more modern. What you do get is a large chunk of the Korg PS-3x00 series at a tiny fraction of the price. Cosmetically it shows signs of its 40 to 45 years' life, with three of the undersides of the keys having chips out of them, and the back and sides of the wooden case looking tatty in places. But when you're playing it, it looks and feels great - any little marks on the top panel could probably be polished out by someone who knew what they were doing. Working wise it's fantastic. One tiny issue is that the Ensemble button doesn't make an audible/tactile 'click' like the Percussive switch does. But it works fine, and all controls work well and all voices sound great. They seriously don't make synths like this any more. UK voltage with a UK plug - easily changed for Europe or Australia etc.. Packing at VEMIA 24GBP."

Synthesizing with Moog | Lesson 2: Dynamics

video upload by Moog Music

Synthesizing with Moog

"In the second episode of Synthesizing with Moog we dive deep into this question to understand how a synthesizer creates individual notes and how you can articulate them. We look at circuits like the Voltage-Controlled Amplifier and Envelope Generator and explore further dimensions of expression. What makes an instrument an instrument? Is it in the tactile control you have as you play the instrument and the ways you can articulate its sound?

Written, hosted, filmed, and produced by our team of electronic musical instrument experts, this new seven-part educational video series makes learning the fundamentals of synthesis accessible, engaging, and inspiring for anyone curious about science, music, and how the two worlds converge. We set out to create a series that brings you as much technical knowledge as it does entertainment and joy as you watch each episode!

Footwork Beat | Elektron Machinedrum

video upload by Akihiko Matsumoto

"MDJK808 Drumkit: https://akihikomatsumoto.sellfy.store...

Machinedrum Sample Pack
The Elektron Machinedrum, first introduced in the early 2000s, was not simply a drum machine. It was a digital architecture built to generate percussion with surgical precision and metallic sharpness. Its synthesis models produced results that went beyond drum programming, moving into the territory of sound design. Even today, no software plugin has managed to fully replicate its distinctive texture.
This collection captures that uniqueness. Every sample was recorded directly from the Machinedrum itself. No external processing, no layering. What you hear is the circuitry of early Elektron design, distilled into one-shots that highlight the instrument’s raw identity.

EnVBot v2.3 - stochastic and distributed envelope generator

"sonicLAB EnVBot v2.3 update has been released."

via sonicLAB

"rethinking the ADSR..

The ADSR….The essential modulation source of a sound generating system to envelope a certain sonic behavior. Ready to trigger, simple, but also very in outline.

sonicLAB rethinks the ADSR and now releases the EnVBot, an advanced envelope generator in form of a plugin. lt comes also embedded with the distributed audio structure of sonicLAB, first introduced on the VOLBot.

You can augment standard ADSR and contruct its Attack, Decay, Sustain and Release parts with unique GEN modulation sounrces which deliver rich possibilities. Generate never heard before envelopes in seconds…

EnVBot server and client instances communicate..

With one gesture you can command a fleet of EnVBot’s modulating each track.

individual behavior or harmonic relations

You can distribute the EnVBot clients on multiple DAW tracks with their own behavior but controlled from the main track of the EnVBot server.

You can also take each EnVBot output from each track and assign it to your external gear, delivering huge potential to envelope your modular gear.

Multi channel audio inputs will be treated as unique instances and modulated likewise. Mono, Stereo and Quad inputs are accepted."
