"Today I used my OBX8 to recreate the ARP string Ensemble sound. By breaking down how the String Ensemble worked internally, I used what I learned to simulate the ensemble effect. Also I have a three channel ensemble board from an 80's organ that I built into an effects box. So I could compare my settings. Hope you like it!

CRUMAR CORDATRON (1974) Castelfidardo

This is an accordion string machine with organ section, a brass synth section with filter controls, trigger-able analog drum sounds and chord and piano presets on a Stradella button board.
Crumar made a few different models of this type of instrument but this is the very first.
Unicorn rarity is the order of the day regarding the control key- and button board - the serial number 3 of allegedly 10 units ever put in production.

Crumar had just started producing keyboards after mainly producing accordions, and around this time they launched the three COMPAC models that definitely inspired the sections of the Cordatron: Compac Strings, Compac Brass and Compac Piano.

Most of the CRUMAR CORDATRON specifications are in the video as text already so please watch the video and read the text - but a quick roundup would look like this :

The instrument consists of mainly two separate units connected by a huge, hardwired 3-piece connector : the main sound generator unit with power supply, audio outputs, tuning and volume pedal, as well as the control unit - basically a butterflied accordion with a Stradella button board for the left hand and a regular keyboard for the right hand.

All the sounds are analog and are generated by the very first generation of divide down technology - no eproms or other intruders of vulgar modernity is on hand.
The sound generator weighs 23 kilos and is literally crammed with sandwiched layers of massive circuit boards of transistors and capacitors.

A lot of my music feels to me like a soundtrack to an imaginary movie, so for the visuals for this one, I figured "hey, the music set is about an hour—so why not just pair it with a movie?" And since (a) I don't want to get in trouble for copyright infringement and (b) I have a preoccupation with "past futures" (a sense of nostalgia for the future that was once imagined by the past and that no longer seems possible), this led me to look for public domain Cold War era films, which led me to this one: Battle Beyond the Sun (1962), an Americanized version of Nebo Zovyot (1959), a Soviet science fiction. The person tasked with Americanizing it was a young film student named Francis Ford Coppola.

Jamuary 11-01-26 - 2x CPM DS-2/DF-8/SQ-1 Minimal Techno

I found time for a quick Jamuary jam today with two Stylophone CPM DS-2s and DF-8s. I make a bit of content for them so I've had these a while and I've been meaning to upload something using them. They're producing all the sound here including the percussion and the effects. The two Korg SQ-1 are both running in 2x 8 step mode for 4 full channels of sequencing. It's a bit restrictive with the SQ-1 but still fun!

I have an mmMidi module in my eurorack that has two CV and Gate outputs and is also expandable with an extra module to add drum style gates on a third midi channel. that would be an excellent way to sequence this with something like a Lofi-12 XT, but I don't have the expander yet, it's on the list 😅"

Left-right movement is mapped to sample/playback start while hand openness is mapped to grain window size. "I sold off my 200e system about 3 years ago. I recently put together a TipTop Audio 200t system. It's been pretty fun. This is a short play with the 259t as the only audio source. I used one non-Buchla module--the Intellijel Springy 2. It's mono output is being sent to the 296t to make it stereo."
