1. Befaco Percall Eurorack Module @ Dutch Modular Fest 2018
Manu Retamero from BEFACO was kind enough to show us their brandnew Percall module during the Dutch Modular Fest 2018 in The Hague. Percall is a four channel envelope shaper, with a few neat tricks such as a triggered accent and "choke" settings that work like an open hi-hat cut by a closed hi-hat on various drum machines. Users can make their own percussive sounds with this module, using various soundsources.
2. Tubbutec Expander & Sumtiple @ DMF 2018
Tobi from the one-man company Tubbutec, showed some new features of the µTune Expander, another demo of the correcting tuning function on the µTune, and their Sumtiple module.

Arduino Clock Divider Logic Thing Review (for modular synthesizers)

Published on Aug 19, 2018 Sbranvlztronics

"A description of the Arduino Clock Divider Logic Thing module functionality. This module is a clock divider using an ATmega328 microcontroller, a bunch of shift registers, transistors and opamps. The 20 HP panel is made of plastic, behind it there are be four pcbs to accommodate the circuits (all hand drawn and using only thru-hole components...). The divider section has 8 outputs, with division ratios defined in software (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 or whatever wanted). There is a logic section with another 8 outputs, the logic gates and divisions configuration being selected by a potentiometer and a switch (64 configurations, or algorithms). Also one AND and one XOR patcheable gates sharing two inputs, a random trigger output, and a MIDI output. The software can be modified using a FTDI connection on the front panel. The clock can be internal (controlled by a pot) or external, or can be controlled by any external continuous CV (there is an attenuation/inverter pot and an offset pot for this CV), the conditioned CV has its output on panel. And of course a lot of LEDs...
The circuits involved will be shown in another video.

Thanks for watching.

StrumPad MIDI controller

Published on Aug 12, 2018 miro2424

"Hold a chord on a MIDI keyboard with one hand and strum that chord on the StrumPad. This controller is based on an Atmel Atmega328P microcontroller programmed with Arduino code. The project is open source and the files are posted on; https://hackaday.io/project/9465-stru..."

First featured in 2016.

"So this device has MIDI in and MIDI out. It is based on Arduino ATMEGA328. It receives MIDI IN messages like note on and note off from a MIDI keyboard controller and loads the data to 6 touch sensors. When the player 'strums' the StrumPad, it senses which 'strings' have been struck and how much force was exerted on the Strumpad by measuring the piezo voltage that is underneath the Strumpad. It then sends MIDI OUT messages like note on and note off."

Ellis Electronics PolyKey / Distortion Synthesizer

Published on Jun 3, 2018 ellis tronics

Listed on etsy

"***this is a one of a kind item - - 1 Available***

The PolyKey/Distortion Synthesizer is an experimental Lo-Fi sound device that explores the unpredictable realm of 'data type' distortion.

when the 'data distort' control is at 0 (far right knob), the device functions as a polyphonic 5-voice wavetable synthesizer. each voice has it own key button and a microtonal pitch control knob above.
decay control for the 5 enveloped voices (top knob) and 40 waveform shapes are available to shuffle between using the wave button (directly under decay control knob)

the data distort control "inflates" the audio data stream and also adjusts the threshold (or data type) in which the sound data can 'overflow' . this overflowing of data causes drastic frequency modulation and unpredictable wave folding. these effects and percussion type sounds can be explored using the 5 pitch control knobs above each voice key and by switching between the 40 unique waveform shapes.

audio output - 1/8 inch "headphone style" jack
power - mini USB cable included

-ships out same day!

***this device is a one of a kind*** as i continue to explore the sound synth possibilities of the atmega 328 microprocessor, i will have various one of a kind development models (prototypes) for sale."

CV QUANTIZER with Arduino 03 - breadboard playing

Published on May 24, 2018 Sbranvlztronics

"Testing the CV Quantizer: ATmega328 microprocessor (arduino) and the DAC0800 digital to analog converters are already on their respective printed circuit boards. The breadboard parts are related to CV input and output level shifting, 7 segment display, indicator LEDs and some signal routing / (de)multiplexing.
The Quantizer is receiving and sending control voltages from / to 2 of my homemade analog modular synthesizers (MSB and Matrix).
Enjoy.

Building a CV QUANTIZER with Arduino - 01

Published on May 2, 2018 Sbranvlztronics

"A CV quantizer with Arduino UNO (ATmega328) in its earlier stage of development. In this video the quantizer is doing its thing on two LFO waveforms. There is two independent CV inputs to be quantized, other parameters are voltage controlled also: scale choice, clock, tessitura (low and high note range for each CV input channel). Yet to be implemented are: synchronization with external clocks, MIDI output, if memory won't run out...

Enjoy

Phase modulation of the Analog Devices AD9833 DDS

Published on Apr 23, 2018 DutchBigEd

"This is a short demo of phase modulation of the Analog Devices AD9833 DDS chip with an Arduino (Atmega328p).
First part is where the hard sync input frequency is varied, than the phase of the hard sync is modulated en than the frequentie of the ad9833 is modulated.

The last part all three variables are modulated.

The sync input is PD2 (INT0), the phase input is ADC0 (PC0) and the Frequency input to control the AD9833 is ADC1 (PC1)."

Note this is the first post to feature the Analog Devices AD9833 DDS chip. You can find previous DIY videos from DutchBigEd here.

via Analog Devices:

"The AD9833 is a low power, programmable waveform generator capable of producing sine, triangular, and square wave outputs. Waveform generation is required in various types of sensing, actuation, and time domain reflectometry (TDR) applications. The output frequency and phase are software programmable, allowing easy tuning. No external components are needed. The frequency registers are 28 bits; with a 25 MHz clock rate, resolution of 0.1 Hz can be achieved. Similarly, with a 1 MHz clock rate, the AD9833 can be tuned to 0.004 Hz resolution.

The AD9833 is written to via a 3-wire serial interface. This serial interface operates at clock rates up to 40 MHz and is compatible with DSP and microcontroller standards. The device operates with a power supply from 2.3 V to 5.5 V.

The AD9833 has a power-down function (SLEEP). This allows sections of the device that are not being used to be powered down, thus minimizing the current consumption of the part, e.g., the DAC can be powered down when a clock output is being generated.

The AD9833 is available in a 10-lead MSOP package.

Applications

Frequency Stimulus/Waveform Generation
Liquid and Gas Flow Measurement
Sensory Applications–Proximity, Motion, and Defect Detection
Line Loss/Attenuation
Test and Medical Equipment
Sweep/Clock Generators
Time domain reflectometry (TDR) applications"

Soulsby Atmegatron Song - Aireo's Theme

Published on Dec 10, 2017 Oscillator Sink

"Here's an energetic little song which was written and recording using the wonderful Soulsby Atmegatron. I hope you enjoy it!

Everything you hear (including the drums) is coming from the Atmegatron using its 'default' firmware. Very little processing has been applied during mixing - basically nothing more than rolling some bottom end off a few sounds, so it's pretty much Raw Atmegatron you're hearing!

I hope you enjoy it - I had a blast composing and recording it!

The visualisation is done with the excellent "PrettyScope" from Soundemote: https://www.soundemote.com/prettyscope
