Soundium: Enabled - Synth Event This Weekend in Vilnius, Lithuania

This one is in via Pierre-Henri Pache.

https://soundium.lt/enabled

"About and around music technology

Soundium: Enabled fuse theory, practice and experiences in the field of music technology. Main goal of the event is to demonstrate and educate. For the first time in the Baltics a space under one roof will be dedicated to DJ/studio gear testings, lectures with brand ambassadors and performances of local geeks.

However, we think the most important part of Soundium: Enabled is its participant (YOU), coming with his/her own approach to the creative process – so the door is open to anyone, and networking is strongly encouraged. See you on October 20th.
Program

Demo Space
Demo space a designated getting-your-hands-on-gear area. You can expect various equipment here, part of which will be hot & new: starting from DJ turntables, ending with modular synths, drum machines and DAW controllers. Some brand representatives will also be around, so do not hesitate to get tips straight from these professionals.

ARP Blue Marvin restoration demonstration - operational tips from CMS

Published on Oct 14, 2018 Phil Cirocco

"This is a short demo video showing some operational tips and nominal volume levels on the ARP 2600. The unit shown is one of the very first 2600s ever made. We recently repaired and restored this beauty to full functionality for a customer. The sound is coming from the 2600 speakers and being recorded by the phone mic. This unit had a partial APU installed since it already had great sounding chips."

The History of the Prophet Synthesizer

Published on Oct 13, 2018 Alex Ball

"One of the most interesting stories of the synth world is that of Dave Smith and Sequential Circuits. I decided to try to tell some of it via their flagship series, from the Prophet 5 in 1978 to the Prophet X in 2018. With the help of a dozen other people who were incredibly generous and equally excited by their instruments, this film is the result: The History of the Prophet Synthesizer.

Massive and heart-felt thanks to all of these awesome Prophet people, this film would be very short without you!"

Echoes Podcast Celebrates 50th Anniversary of Wendy Carlos' Switched-On Bach

"It was 1968 when Wendy Carlos took her Moog synthesizer and applied it to the contrapuntal music of Johann Sebastian Bach. The album was called Switched-On Bach and it changed the shape of modern music forever. It took synthesizers out of the world of sound effects and the avant-garde and into the mass market. Switched-On Bach was the herald of the future and made Robert Moog’s invention synonymous with synthesizer. We celebrate the album’s 50th Anniversary with Wendy Carlos in the Echoes Podcast" Click through to listen.

Phil Cirocco demonstrating the ARP 2003 synthesizer by Tonus

Published on Oct 12, 2018 Phil Cirocco

"We recently refurbished and also refinished this beautiful 6 foot long ARP 2003. The predecessor to the ARP 2500. I Don't usually end up playing the blues, but this particular patch suggested it."

You can find them on Reverb here.

Don't miss the video here.

Update: some pics and details captured. I made the mistake of trying to capture them all and then realized how many were listed. :) I ended up switching to the more esoteric models. Quite a few have never been featured here on MATRIXSYNTH before. What's a little bit interesting, is only two new labels were needed, one for Domino and one for Side-Kick-Er. All other brands have been featured before. See the labels at the bottom of this post. Side note: Blogger limits the number of characters to 200 for labels, so I wasn't able to capture them all for this post. You can always search for the brand names featured for more. I assume most do this anyway. The labels are more for maintenance and for finding posts that may not feature brand names in descriptions.

Arturia Synclavier V Update 2.0 - The power of Resynthesis & V Collection Update 6.2

Synclavier V Tutorial Update 2

Published on Oct 12, 2018

"Get a quick overview of some of the most important new features found in Synclavier V update 2.0. In this video, Guy covers the new sampling capabilities, the resynthesis engine, and some of the new grid features."

"Originally released in 2016 as part of V Collection 5, Synclavier V gave a whole new generation of musicians access to the ground breaking sound and features of the revolutionary late-70s digital synth. Developed in partnership with the original instrument’s inventor, Cameron Jones, Synclavier V went above and beyond the capabilities of the hardware produced between the late 70s and early 90s.

However, New England Digital also produced many optional add-ons for the Synclavier, such as a sample playback module and a resynthesis engine, that were not emulated in Arturia’s release of Synclavier V 2.

Today, that changes.

With the release of Synclavier V 2, alongside many other workflow enhancements and improvements, Arturia and Cameron Jones are proud to announce that Synclavier now includes sampling capabilities and an exciting resynthesis engine for musicians, producers, and sound designers to explore.
Synclavier V 2 is available as a free upgrade to all owners of Synclavier V, or Arturia’s V Collection 5 and V Collection 6.

"MIDI and CV-equipped keyboard controller with eight-track sequencer

Novation today announces the next generation of SL keyboard controllers. SL MkIII is far from your typical keyboard controller. It’s an all sequencing, all dancing hub for all of your music-making tools. A centrepiece to connect, control and create with your entire setup. Computer or not. Create quickly and easily with your MIDI hardware and CV/Gate synths. Build your tracks in the eight-track polyphonic sequencer: everything in time; everything in key; every control at your fingertips.

Novation worked with Ableton® to create an unprecedented integration with Live™. SL MkIII truly pulls your sessions out of the box. The full colour LCD screens give you full visibility of your parameters, while the pads, buttons, eight faders and eight knobs get you hands-on with your music – and in any major music software, using InControl. Deep integrations with Logic® and Reason – plus HUI compatibility with Cubase, Pro Tools® and Reason – mean SL MkIII can follow you away from Ableton®, too.

SL MkIII boasts Novation's finest, most playable and expressive synth-style semi-weighted keybed, with a sprung action and Novation's highest scan rate, all tuned to the needs of the experienced player.

Key features

Absolute hardware control, taking total control directly from the internal eight-track polyphonic pattern-based sequencer

Easy integration with Ableton® Live™ or any other HUI-compatible DAW. Controlling software is made easy by recording productions from a studio centrepiece

Whether in the box or outside the box, the MIDI and analogue clock and transport controls keep everything running in time

Highly customisable mappings for hardware and software easily control everything

USB; MIDI In, Out, Out 2/Thru; three pedal inputs; Analogue Clock Out; and two CV Pitch, Gate, and Mod outputs can be used to route anything anywhere

SL MkIII's pads, buttons, eight faders and eight knobs take control of all major music software using InControl

The SL MkIII has an exceptionally high scan rate of 10kHz, giving the keyboard a huge dynamic range for expressive keyboard performance

SL MkIII's velocity-sensitive RGB pads have multiple functions: they can be used for launching clips, as steps in the sequencer, they are perfect for the finger drummer, and have polyphonic aftertouch

Components allows templates and sessions to be backed up and restored in the cloud, enabling access from anywhere in the world. All content can also be saved locally"

Moog One's Effects & Eventide's Founder Richard Factor on meeting Bob Moog

Eventide's Founder Richard Factor on meeting Bob Moog

Published on Oct 9, 2018 Eventide Audio

"We are excited to announce that a suite of premium Eventide reverbs is included in the new Moog One analog poly synth from Moog Music Inc. In this excerpt from Gear Club Podcast, Eventide founder Richard Factor talks about his first encounter with Bob Moog."

And the press release from Eventide:

"Eventide Develops Suite of Reverbs for New Flagship Analog Poly Synth — Moog’s First in 30 Years

October 9, 2018 — Eventide announced today that is has provided a suite of premium reverbs for the highly anticipated Moog One analog poly synth from Moog Music, Inc. Long-rumored to be in development, but cloaked in secrecy until just this week, the new flagship instrument is Moog’s first analog poly synth in over 30 years, and has created considerable excitement in the industry.

In addition to its classic subtractive synthesis architecture of analog oscillators, filters, envelopes, and amplifiers, the new instrument incorporates digital effects, with Eventide’s world-class reverbs being a significant and noteworthy part of the package. The five Eventide effects included with the Moog One are: Room, Hall, and Plate, which provide the three most essential and desirable reverb environments, along with Shimmer and Blackhole, which add unique and evocative reverberant effects that are particularly well suited to creative sound design on the synthesizer. Each effect has multiple parameters that can be used to sculpt its characteristics in detail.

Eventide’s Tony Agnello described his excitement at being part of the instrument’s development: “My partner Richard Factor and I have long been admirers of Bob Moog, the man, and Moog Music, the company. For Bob, it was always about the music and the artist. We’re proud to have Eventide effects included as a standard feature in the new flagship, Moog One. Working with Cyril Lance and the Moog development team was a true pleasure. We’re especially heartened to know that Bob’s spirit lives on in the DNA of Moog Music and that a tiny bit of Eventide DNA has now been spliced in.”

Moog Music’s Chief Engineer Cyril Lance added: “The Moog One was developed to explore new possibilities in the design of a polyphonic analog synthesizer. Eventide’s world-class reverb technology was a perfect fit for the Moog One, and a fitting continuation of a relationship started years ago between Eventide Engineer Tony Agnello and Bob Moog. Eventide’s breathtaking Room, Hall, Plate, Shimmer, and Blackhole effects are standards for professional musicians and modern studios, and their inclusion in the Moog One is a wonderful addition to the instrument’s vast sonic potential.”

The Moog One is expected to begin shipping this month and will be available in 8- and 16-voice versions. It features 3 newly-designed analog VCOs, 2 independent analog filters, a dual-source analog noise generator, analog mixer with external audio input, 4 LFOs, and 3 envelopes. The instrument is tri-timbral and can split, layer, and stack voices. In addition to its many front-panel controls, a center-panel LCD allows easy access to additional parameters."

The Kola Superdeep Borehole (СГ-3) is a scientific drilling project of the Soviet Union on the Kola Peninsula, inside the Arctic Circle. The project attempted to drill as deep as possible into the Earth's crust. The drilling began on 24 May 1970. СГ-3 reached 12,262 meters [7.62 miles/40229.66 feet] in 1989 and it is the deepest artificial point on Earth. In 1990 drilling was stoped.

In 2008 СГ-3 was abandoned. The Borehole was conserved. Station is placed in a very hard to reach area on Far North and it is slowly collapsing.

For a long time project was top secret, due to which fact there appeared many legends about it. Level of difficulties and technologies that this project involved is comparable with sending the man into space. Amount of data and samples that were obtained during experiments is so huge, that it will be studied for many more decades.]

In 2016 I found in one of abandoned laboratories of the station a roll of punched tapes for computers, that were used on the station to record scientific data. This tape has inspired me to create a sound installation dedicated to СГ-3.

This installation is an automatic sound object that drills stone samples sourced from different depths and uses data from punched tape as the program for controlling the motors.]

In July 2018 I went to visit the station СГ-3, to resume the drilling process after 28 years of downtime.
