reVel2 - MaxforLive Device for Ableton Live by LDM Design

video upload by Isotonik Studios

"This colorful device is an updated version of the nice little velocity sequencer originally included in LDM Design’s popular Chance 10 pack. reVel expands the idea to include a unique duration based mode and expanded functionality such as individual randomization per step.

With Sequencer mode, you set a fixed sequence of values up to 32 steps long, and each note will take the velocity level of each proceeding step in the sequence.

Using this mode you can add randomization amounts per individual step to create more variation in the output. However, if your sequence of notes in Live’s piano roll, or live incoming midi, varies in the distribution of notes in any section of time, the sequence of velocity values will fall out of step with the notes coming through.

You may want this as a creative way to make differing patterns, yet you may also want a specific flow of velocity values in each section of time. This is where the Function mode comes in!

With the unique function mode, you can set the flow of values over a specific number of beats, and then however many notes come through in each section, it will retain the flow of velocity values over time. Now we can get a specific groove and let the notes flow freely.

In function mode we get a global randomization amount which will define a maximum amount of randomization for any note that comes through."

XILS-lab Releases Ring’X Virtual Effects

Press release follows.

XILS-lab releases Ring’X representing latest addition to lengthening line of virtual effects as inspiring and musical multi-effect plug-in par excellence

GRENOBLE, FRANCE: audio software company XILS-lab is proud to release Ring’X — readily representing the latest addition to its lengthening line of virtual effects as an inspiring and musical multi-effect plug-in par excellence — as of September 28…

Duly developed as an inspiring and musical multi-effect plug-in for seriously satisfying anyone’s needs, Ring’X is certainly worthy of the oft- overused French phrase par excellence — literally translated into English as ‘by excellence’ — as evidenced by its feature-packed GUI (Graphical User Interface) that is as easy on the eye as it is easy to use.

Ultimately, it is anchored around a six-slot so-called ‘Effect Ring’ that allows anyone to insert the effects they need in the order they want, choosing from a selection of deeply-modifiable classic analogue effect emulations: ANALOG FILTER — modelled from the CMS 3320 chip, used in the exciting-sounding (early-Eighties-era) Elka Synthex subtractive synthesis-based polytimbral powerhouse (much loved by the likes of famous French electronic music pioneer Jean-Michel Jarre, who still uses it to this day to create the distinctive sound of his onstage laser harp), providing five (LP24 — 24db Low-Pass, LP12 — 12db Low-Pass, HP12 —12db High-Pass, BP12 — 12db Band-Pass, or BP6 — 6db Band-Pass) self- oscillating filter types; ANALOG 18db FILTER — modelling the specific sound and behaviour of an 18db self-oscillating filter from the breakthrough British EMS VCS3, which made musical history upon its introduction in 1969 by being the first commercially portable synthesiser available anywhere in the world, thanks to its innovative modular matrix-based patchboard dispensing with the telephone exchange-like cabling of other (much larger) modular systems in favour of making space-saving connections with (removable) coloured pegs; CHORUS (BUCKET BRIGADE DELAY); DELAY — stereo delay that copies the input signal to the left and right channel; DISTORTION; PARAMETRIC EQ — a three-band affair with each band type selectable from six standard filter types; PHASER; and REVERB — with three (L — Large, M — Medium, and S — Small) algorithms. Each effect provides four MODULATION points with a SOURCE and DESTINATION menu associated with an AMOUNT knob.

Standard STEP and specific LOC locator sequencers for modulating effects are also available — the loop goes through a defined number of steps and each time the internal clock is fired the next step is triggered, in the case of the former, while the latter is designed to be synchronised to the DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) with the loop being synchronised to the DAW bar (or a multiple of the bar).

But that’s not all. Another area well worth highlighting here features four input followers; a TRANSIENT tracker ‘module’ — detects the transients present in the input sound, each transient triggering a simple envelope without attack and release controlled by the RELEASE knob; S- DETECTION ‘module’ — detects sibilance present in the input sound, and also useful for separating high-frequency parts from those with more middle and bass frequencies; GATE ‘module’ — removes all the parts from the input sound that are below a specified threshold; and a STEREO SPACE ‘module’ — powerful stereo processing that allows users to dynamically position their audio signal into a true stereo space.

By being so flexible in both operation and resulting effects, it stands to reason, therefore, that Ring’X should come complete with a raft of presets. All are accessible via an integrated (single-window) Preset Manager, making it easy to find the right patch in seconds, manage presets, sound banks, and create custom tags. That being said, then, inspiring and musical multi-effects are only a click away, but those wishing to dig deeper to seriously satisfy their needs are always free to do just that! After all, as the latest addition to XILS-lab’s lengthening line of virtual effects, Ring’X is, indeed, an inspiring and musical multi-effect plug-in par excellence — in the literal sense of those (French- originating) words.

Who better, then, to put Ring’X in its rightful place than the Frenchman primarily responsible for bringing it into existence — namely, XILS-lab CEO Xavier Oudin (credited in the multi-effect plug-in in question’s user manual with: Concept of Ring’X and original UI design; Digital Signal Processing and plug-in coding; [and] the graphical user interface). “For a number of years, customers have been regularly asking me to create an effect featuring filters extracted from our synthesizers,” he begins, before adding: “This idea grew into providing a sort of Swiss army knife-style tool capable of sculpting audio with modulation fully independent of its content, and also able to create any kind of de-esser and transient shaper with far more possibilities than standard such effects. Eventually, Ring’X was born.”

Ring’X is available to purchase as an iLok-protected virtual effect plug-in (installable in up to two independent locations) at an introductory promo price of only €69.00 EUR until October 31, 2023 — rising thereafter to an MSRP (Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price) of €179.00 EUR — directly from XILS-lab via its dedicated webpage, which also includes more in-depth information and several must-see video demonstrations, here: https://www.xils-lab.com/products/ringx-p-172.html#

A time-limited full version of Ring’X can be requested for pre-purchase evaluation purposes here: https://www.xils-lab.com/products/ringx-p-172/download.html#AskDemo

Ring’X is downloadable in 64-bit AAX (native)-, AU-, VST2.4-, and VST3-compatible formats for macOS (10.9+) and 64-bit AAX (native)-, VST2.4-, and VST3-compatible formats for Windows (7/8/10) directly from XILS-lab.

SitannSpin - MaxforLive Sequencer for Ableton Live by White Horse

DEMO video upload by Isotonik Studios

WALKTHROUGH - SitannSpin - MaxforLive Sequencer for Ableton Live by White Horse

"The SitannSpin MaxforLive device plugin combines two step sequencers in one to be used to generate drums, melodies, or trigger samples.

Using probability and retriggering to generate variations. The complexity and rotation dials ‘focus’ variations in areas that you want. This device is great for adding accents to drum mixes.

Alternatively turn it to a MIDI note generator and you can generate melodies.

You can also separate the plugin into two sequencers and generate bass notes and treble notes.

This is a great ‘swiss army knife’ for your MIDI tool kit. With the drift function you can add high hats that sit back a little in your drum patterns. The variation setting can add a probability or can ‘humanize’ to number of times the drift it applied.

This little device is far more powerful than the playful name implies and can be used as a performance sequencer or as a music composition and creative tool.

Introducing Octopulse MaxforLive Device for Ableton Live by Manifest Audio

video upload by Isotonik Studios

Learn - Octopulse MaxforLive Device for Ableton Live by Manifest Audio

"Did you know the otherworldly octopus has a uniquely distributed neural system? Its central brain is connected to brains in each of its eight arms: nine brains total.

Inspired by this unique lifeform, Octopulse is designed by Ableton Certified Trainer Noah Pred to combine eight individually adjustable pulse generators with global controls that manipulate them in unison — while retaining distinct characteristics, directions, and behaviours.

Each activated pulse “arm” is driven by its own clock, defined by a base musical rate and multiplier, along with controllable length, at a specified MIDI note. Trigger, octave, and velocity can all be randomized to add a wealth of variation. Note values, base rates, and rate multipliers for all arms can be randomized globally, within set ranges; click the global dice to instantly produce a unique starting point. Velocity, duration, and multiplier can be controlled for all steps simultaneously, as well as trigger, octave, hold, and velocity randomization.

Advanced mode provides access to pulse divisions for polyrhythmic tuplet timing independently for each pulse, Euclidean sequencing, individual loop reset in bars, and discrete offset delay, with locks to exempt certain parameters from global control or randomization. Euclidean fills can be set per pulse, and controlled globally via uniquely proportional percentage slider. Pulse divisions can also be set globally for all unlocked pulses.

Outgoing MIDI can be transposed via incoming MIDI clips or real-time input for uniquely interactive musical results — all of which conforms to a selected scale and key. An optional cycle reset interval constrains otherwise endlessly sprawling polymetric structures to more predictable bar-length patterns, while a base offset and multiplier can stagger the entire pattern offbeat.

Four playback modes allow it to interact with other MIDI elements in a project — or be deployed as an unconventional, retriggering arpeggiator. Optimized for Push with full Info View annotations and bundled Global Hub integration, Octopulse provides a fresh approach to probabilistic polyrhythms. Whether generating unique drum patterns or expansive melodic patterns, Octopulse is applied biomimicry in action.

"BLEASS Fusion is a unique and powerful waveshaping tool that harnesses the limitless flexibility of wavetables to unleash sumptuously smooth saturations, disgracefully dirty distortions, and maximally mad mashups.

BLEASS has designed Fusion to be one of the – if not the – most versatile and adaptable distortion and saturation plugins available today, able to completely change its entire tone and character in an instant. The magic comes from the way in which wavetables define the sonic results of processing, and so empower the plugin with the versatility to satisfy your every sonically-destructive whim.

Whether you want to spice-up your audio with the lightest sprinkle of sizzle, smother it in a luxuriant fluffy blanket, or shatter it into fractured shards, BLEASS Fusion provides the perfect waveshaping weaponry for the job. And should you find that the 58 included wavetables don’t quite fulfil your distortion dreams, importing your own custom wavetables is simply a matter of dropping a file into a folder.

A pair of multi-mode resonant filters allow BLEASS Fusion to focus its fury on particular frequencies, or can be used to tame its more extreme excesses. And with a full complement of modulators that add movement and dynamism to your sound, a huge palette of expressive, rhythmic and evolving distortions are just waiting to be explored."

Boredbrain Patchulator Pro: Experiments with Analog Drums, FM Synth, and Guitar Pedal Effects

video upload by Boredbrain Music

"Three musical experiments are improvised using a static setup of instruments and effects connected to PATCHULATOR PRO, an evolution of Boredbrain’s iconic desktop and pedalboard patchbay. Thanks to our friend and electronic musician, Galen Bundy, for creating these unique demonstrations.

Patch #1 'Astroknot' features an upbeat pattern from the Arturia Drumbrute patched into the Meris Ottobit for glitch-style effects, while a dreamy bell-like vibe from the Volca FM is patched through three effects: Dr. Scientist Atmosphere Reverb, Demedash T-120 Echo, and Dr. Scientist Dusk Analog Filter. As the drums are using Patchulator Pro's dedicated instrument channel, it is then switched to an alternate effects chain consisting of the Alexander Marshmallow Pitched Octave and onto the Defender Overdrive for a tonal distorted rhythm.

Patch #2 'Mobius Strings' is a bit different. Starting with some string-like chords from the FM synth, the signal makes its way through the Mojo Swim Team Chorus, then the aforementioned Octave, Echo, and Reverb for a modulated and total washed effect. The rhythmically contrasting "spastic" drum pattern is patched out of the Drum machine and through the Defender Overdrive, the Rainger FX EchoX, the Ottobit and ultimately the Dusk filter. This creates a complimentary lo-fi tone to the somewhat ominous strings.

Patch #3 'Bored of Canada' is a down-tempo improvisation directed by a simple delayed synth melody from Volca FM. The far-out tone is created by sending the signal through the T-120 Echo, Marshmallow Octave, Atmosphere Reverb, then finally the Swim Team Chorus at the end of the chain. The Analog Drums continue with their routing from the previous patch, with some fun tweaking of the EchoX.

Thanks for watching, now get patching!

PRODUCT PAGE:
http://www.boredbrainmusic.com/produc..."

Patchulator Pro is an evolution of Boredbrain’s iconic desktop and pedalboard patchbay, purpose-built for experimental signal routing of guitar pedals, effects, synths and more. The patchbay has ten individual effects channels, plus a main instrument channel capable of switching between two parallel effects chains or bypassing them entirely.

Effects on Patch
Patchulator Pro’s ten numbered channels are primarily used for pedals or effects processors, and allow chains of effects to be created on-the-fly using a few mini patch cables. First, the inputs and outputs of pedals and effects are connected to the send (gray) and return (black) 1/4-inch jacks on the rear of the patchbay. Then using the top 3.5 mm jacks labeled SND and RCV, signals can be routed freely through the effects channels to make a chain.

Alternatively, instrument sources (and destinations) can also connect to any of these ten channels for direct patch access if the dedicated MAIN I/O instrument channel is not enough.

Selectable FX Chain
A new and useful feature of Patchulator Pro is its dedicated instrument channel, which allows for quick access to one of two effects chains.

The 1/4-inch jacks labeled MAIN I/O are the instrument channel’s external input (black) and output (gray). Once connected, the input signal is available on top at both RCV patch points (multiples) within the instrument channel section. These copies can be used to create separate effects chains. Using the included patch cables, each chain is routed through any combination of the ten effects channels, then returned to its respective SND patch point.

The OUTPUT SOURCE switch is used to select which chain is sent to the instrument channel’s main output. Simply slide it all the way to the left or right. With the 3-way switch in the center BYPASS position, the instrument input is sent directly to the output, effectively bypassing both effects chains. This selection is useful to A/B an affected signal against the “dry” signal, and is a foolproof way to avoid pops while patching.

NOTE: Pops can also be avoided while patching by selecting the other chain, as long as the internal jumpers remain in their default OFF state (see Circuit Configuration).

Expert Interconnection
Patchulator Pro is purposefully configured with TRS (Tip, Ring, Sleeve) connections throughout to maximize compatibility with a range of gear and setups. All of the connections, circuitry, and the included patch cables are capable of carrying unbalanced mono, stereo, and/or balanced audio signals.

A single patch cable can carry two signals, thus eliminating the need to use two channels for a stereo patch. A single patch cable can also carry balanced audio signals like those typical of rack compressors, equalizers, and studio effects processors.

Each Patchulator Pro comes ready-to-patch with twelve premium Boredbrain patch cables, enough to use every patch point. The 10-inch cables of two colors (green and black) are customized to reach the full width of the patchbay and to differentiate between the two effects chains.

Ten discrete send and return channels for effects and instruments
Additional main instrument channel switchable between two effects chains
TRS connections support stereo, mono, and balanced audio signals
Includes twelve custom 10-inch mini patch cables (TRS)
Passive design for routing all types of signals

Currently you can use 8 different samples and you can have 3 patterns (I will increase these things). It's also possible to combine two patterns, that basically turns the device into a 32 step sequencer. Currently I'm working on a new feature, with that users will be able to launch Ableton clips with this device too."

"Introducing our Ableton-compatible step sequencer! This innovative device features a USB-C port, 19 hardware buttons, and the price the includes an Arduino Nano too (not the original Arduino). It communicates seamlessly with Max4Live via serial communication. What sets it apart is its versatility; if you're familiar with Max, you can easily modify the official patch and create new functions. Plus, the price includes the official patch I've designed for it.

Key Features:

Currently supports 8 different MIDI sounds, capable of triggering various drums or samples loaded into a drum rack. Create and switch between 3 distinct patterns effortlessly. Each pattern consists of 16 steps, and you can even link two patterns to achieve a 32-step sequencer. Adjustable tempo, allowing for halving the speed, ideal for using longer samples. Visual feedback provided by RGB (ws2812b) LEDs, indicating the positions of MIDI sounds and steps. Dedicated buttons for placing individual sounds or samples on each step. Compact at under 0.5cm tall, 12.8cm long, and 8cm wide, elevate your music production game with this Ableton step sequencer, offering flexibility, creativity, and a seamless Max4Live integration."

Broken beats w/ Pikocore, Dirtywave M8, Roland J-6, TE TX-6

video upload by Arman Bohn

"More experiments with the pikocore. Random chord triggering sent from the M8 to the J-6. The Pikocore is synced to the J-6 which is clocked to the M8.

I’m syncing key changes to the random chords as well. I think I’ll continue down this path towards actual pseudo random song creation … so possibly more M8 + J-6 combos in the near future. The modulation options on the J-6 are nonexistent sound design is incredibly limited. I could use another mini synth instead, maybe the great conjunction, or the kasser arcade. but that would take more cord wrangling in the m-8."

This is the first post to feature the pikocore.
