Summer Rain (collab using Monomachine, Sequential Pro3, Korg Minilogue)

video upload by MKDVB

"Sun Fils: vocals, guitar, Korg Minilogue bass
MKDVB: Sequential Pro 3 (lead, bass, arp), Elektron Monomachine (main synth riff, percussion)

I remember the exact day the lightning wildfires started in CA last summer because my family went for an early morning walk and lightning erupted unexpectedly. I even recorded it on my phone & sampled it in my next single. And somehow I knew things weren't going to be the same anymore.

It's time we gave the Earth its flowers."

"Surrender" (1st Sequential Pro 3 synth jam + Moog Matriarch, Monomachine, Juno 106, Squarp Pyramid)

video upload by MKDVB

"My 1st jam with the Sequential Pro 3 & it may already be my fave monosynth! Live ambient synthpop jam alongside the Moog Matriarch, Elektron Monomachine, Juno 106 (my last track w/ this beauty but it was time to say goodbye). Squarp Pyramid on sequencer. Chase Bliss Audio Blooper, Eventide Eclipse, Boss RV-500 reverb & Valhalla on FX duties.

I called this track Surrender because it's the last one I made with my beloved Juno 106, which I chose to sell despite my emotional attachment to its sound. I've always had a collector's mentality which lends itself to a materialistic mindset in many ways & hanging onto the 106 was more about "owning" than using or playing it. We never truly own anything so I surrendered the 106 & hopefully part of that mindset as well.

Recorded via Cranborne 500R8 & mixed/edited in post."

You worship at the altar underneath the city lights
Just keep it moving

Tell me why you always run away the minute I come through
Just keep it moving
Just keep your cool
I had the strangest dream of what could be
and nothing else will do

Budget Vintage Moog VS Budget Modern Moog

video by Musician Paradise

"In this video, I'm comparing two of the cheapest Moog synths, vintage Moog Rogue and modern Moog Minitaur focusing on the raw power of the oscillators and filters of those two beasts, not much on the modulation capabilities.

The question is - should we spend all the disposable income on vintage synths, or modern stuff is good enough?

Getting Nasty with Noise Engineering, Digitakt, and Hermod

video by Red Means Recording

"Let's use the Elektron Digitakt to sequence and modulate some Noise Engineering modules!

* Digitakt is playing back drums and samples on tracks 1-8
* Digitakt tracks 15 and 16 are set to send MIDI out on channels 15 and 16 to the Squarp Hermod
* The Hermod translates this data to CV and passes pitch and gate to the Noise Engineering Cursus and Manis Iteritas
* The Manis is passing through the Tip-Top z5000 fx unit for chorus, and the Cursus is going into the WMDSSF ADSRVCA for volume shaping
* Channels 9-14 on the Digitakt pass no note data. They have MIDI CC1 mapped to a knob, which the Hermod accepts, records, and passes through as modulation CV
* You can use the Digitakt LFOs to modulate CC1, or record this into the Hermod as a modulation lane, which will now be part of the sequence
* This is a very flexible and fun way to play with modular!

Rubber Band Bass // Live looping synth jams: Korg opsix, Sequential Pro 3, Prophet-6, MC-707

video by MR TUNA Music

"This one's going to be a little different! Okay maybe not--but we're starting off with some deep stretchy rubber band bass from the Korg opsix and some dark powerful arps from the Sequential Pro 3 SE before we bring in those golden brass pads from the amazing Prophet-6 🎺✨✨✨
After all that there's a high-cryin' sine-y solo lead from the Korg Prologue and some almost inaudible atmosphere from the OB-6 (but that will be more important later)
anyways. it's not without its charm!

Jamuary #28 - Together we rock (ft. VCVRack, Eurorack,Soundplane)

video by TheTechnobear

"Today was all about trying to bring everything together....

The idea is simple, using the power of the computer (my little mac mini m1) to use the wonderful vcvrack, yet have it behave like an instrument with full hands on control.

Ive used vcvrack a bit in the past, but never really tried to integrate it fully..
the basics of the patch are simple.
- a couple of voices using instruo and vult oscillators and filters
- pianoteq (vst host) using a vult filter
- aalto (vst host)
- a mixer with a couple of sends to 2 vahalla vst reverbs (vst host)
- audio recorder to record the output
- midi to cv, to connect to hardware

the the bit thats Ive not done before... using midi mapping to map a controller.

on the hardware side.
the aim here was about hands on control...

the pyramid is used as the main sequencer and clock

the hermod is really the brains.
its sending the cv to the eurorack, midi to vcvrack, and its also taking cv/gate from the USTA to sequence vcvrack voices.

usta is a nice hands-on sequencer, quite different from the pyramid, more like an analog sequencer.

electra one [additional posts], lovely controller with encoders and is touch screen too - its easy to customise, so here I created a quick patch that controls vcvrack, things like levels, fx, and filters. once setup, I use midi map in vcvrack to assign controls.

the soiundplane again comes into play as the main playing surface :)

its was quite a lot of setup, but really just because it was the first time... so I had to decide how it was best to connect things, what role they would play.

its the first time my little mac mini struggle a little bit.
in fairness, it was fine whilst I was playing...no audio glitches at all.

but of course, as soon as I turned on the camera issues started appearing :)
the issue is I also had to run OBS to record the webcam, and quicktime to do a screen capture of vcvrack... that seem to just take it a bit over the top.

... which was. a bit frustrating, as I was getting tired by this point, and just wanted to finish... but I got there.

I might give it another go tommorow, now its all setup - so I can focus more on the music side , rather than cables and midi ;)

hope you enjoy

tech note: I should say VCVRack, plugins , OBS are all Rosetta , so I think we can expect them to improve. also honestly, Id have not even tried this on my old mac - its also possible the issue was related to usb traffic, given I have audio interface, webcam, monitor, soundplane, hermod, electra one ... alll sending a lot of data over usb ;)"

Squarp Rample: a deep 4-Voice Sample Machine

Sound Isles

"A non-talking demo of the Squarp Rample: a 4-voice Eurorack sample player and effects processor with no duration limit. I explore the sample playback abilities, the included stock sounds + kits, and the several effects all through various sonic explorations.

Each voice supports up to 12 samples which can be stacked as multi-layered samples. Using all 4 voices you can have 48 samples in a single 'kit'. With up to 2600 possible kits on the SD there is a lot of sonic exploration to be had. The CV inputs provide a modulation destination for each voice and the gate inputs trigger the samples. A rack of 5 effects per voice (bitcrush, pitch shift, filter, freeze and drive).

Using Pamela's New! Workout to sequence and send modulation over CV, and FX Aid XL for some spacious reverb when needed. Arturia Microfreak makes an appearance. All modules are powered with the Polyend Anywhere via a portable battery.

All underwater footage was shot by me on a canoe trip.
Hope you enjoy the sights + sounds.

Thanks to Squarp instruments for sending me this module.

Jamuary #8 - Press Ahead (ft Octatrack, Cat, Virus TI, Eyesy)

TheTechnobear

"Day 8 for Jamuary, change it up a bit for the Jam, but Cat is back lending me his support....and again another audio visual jam.

Visuals are again done with the Critter and Guitari's incredible EYESY.
(see yesterday's , jam 7, video for more details)

On the music side,
quite an unexpected turn... I planned something completely differrent.
But when starting, I stumbled on some samples on the Rample, which led me a new direction.. so I just decided to press ahead with that new idea.

so...
Virus is doing the bass, and chord sequence which I previously had played into the Squarp Pyramid.
Drums are coming from the Octatrack.
finally, the modular, oddly, its only being used for the Rample and its samples, and even that over midi... but hey, they were the seed for the jam.

hmm, wonder if tommorow I'll do what I had planned for today, or get sidetracked again (... doh, that would have been a better track name ;) )"

Waldorf Iridium Ambient

"Can it ambient? Can it distortion?

Multi-layer patch with the Waldorf Iridium. Making heavy use of the Particle and Resonator engines. Sequences from Squarp Pyramid. It gets loud. Whitecaps of white noise.

Thank you for listening."
